Good places to live in Brooklyn based on food/bevs?

I think Cobble Hill or Carroll Gardens would be ideal if you can afford it. Rent there is kind of pricey but it's got some of the best restaurants and bars in Brooklyn. If food and a convenient commute are your top priority I would start my search there.

I live in Bay Ridge (where the rent is much more reasonable) and work in downtown manhattan. My commute on the N/R is about 20 min to 30 min.door to door. But I must admit that I am very conveniently located. I am one stop away from the N train which then gets me to Canal street in 3 stops. If you are further into Bay Ridge (above 75th street) or if you need to get to Soho you would have to stay on the R train which would make for a long ride. But foodwise Bay Ridge is great. Tanoreen and La Maison de Couscous are two restaurants that are highly praised (and rightfully so!) on this site for its middle eastern and Morrocan cuisine. Sancho's has great Spanish food and Taj Mahal is a wonderful Indian restaurant. Skinflints is a very popular sports bar with great burgers and a great crowd. Some of the other bars in the area tend to be cop hang outs or fire fighter hangouts. (Don't know if that matters to you but I've found that it matters to some people.) This is definitely not an exhaustive list of the restaurants in Bay Ridge. I've barely scratched the surface. But even is you decide to live somewhere else in Brooklyn, you'll be just a short subway ride away from Bay Ridge and some good eats.

Good luck with your search!

Where can I get the best ramen in NYC?

Thanks for the recommendations! I will check those both out in the next couple of weeks. Please keep the recommendations coming. I want to check out every ramen place in the city in 2010.

Where can I get the best ramen in NYC?

I just discovered fresh ramen in Dec '09 and made visiting ramen houses in NYC (outer boroughs included) a priority. In my opinion Ippudo is the best but I suspect that there is a world of NYC ramen out there that I have yet to explore. So far I have been to Minca, Rai Rai Ken, Ramen Setagaya, Zuzu Ramen, Terakawa Ramen and Ajisen Ramen. Are there any others out there I should try? In your opinion who makes the best ramen in NYC?

Canned breadfruit nuts

They are alot like chestnuts. You can boil (in very salty water) or roast them. Then remove the shell and pop em in your mouth. Delicious. I've only worked with fresh breadfruit nuts. Never canned. How did they turn out for you?

Black Cod

Where can I find the tastiest Black Cod in NYC? (Other than Nobu.)

Best Black Cod

Believe it or not I just discovered this dish very recently. Now I'm search for the Best Black Cod in the city. Any suggestions?

Are there any hounds in Bay Ridge?

Unfortunately Lento's is closed (and dearly missed).

Tenda - New Asian Bistro on Montague Street

Comparing Ki Sushi and Yamato's menus to Tenda's I really don't see that much of a difference (unless menupages made a mistake). But I've kept my focus at Tenda on the Japanese menu. The Thai and Malaysian menu I'd have to agree is a bit over priced and not as good as some other restaurants. At dinner, my friend ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with Malaysian Black Bean Sauce which was rather tasteless. It was nowhere near as good as the black cod and much more expensive.

Tenda - New Asian Bistro on Montague Street

A new Asian Bistro has just opened up on Montague Street called Tenda. It's a small cozy place with a great Bento box lunch special ($7.50) and incredibly good Black Miso Cod. I am by no means a bona fide foodie so I would love to hear others opinions of the place. Has anyone else been there yet?

Is Banana Leaf gone?

Say it ain't so. I drove by there the other day and saw an unfamiliar restaurant in it's stead. Does anyone know what's going on?

10462 Bronx sugestions

I used to live in Parkchester and although I enjoyed living there I'm sorry to say that you won't find much in the way of good eats in the area. But Circle Pizza (located on Hugh Grant Circle, next to the C town supermarket) offers what some say is the best pizza in the Bronx and Ellie's on Metropolitan Ave. is a good old fashioned diner which is very popular for brunch on the weekends. The Step In lounge (located next to the Step In diner) on Metropolitan Avenue is a very popular place for drinks after work. Good luck with your new job!

City Island Eats

Although I have never eaten there I have heard great things about Le Refuge Inn. I think they specialize in french cuisine.
