black forest cake in Montreal
I'm a big fan of black forest cake. Used to get them @ Gascogne, but they stopped making them a few years ago. Luckily my sister is a pastry chef so she'd whip me up a nice cake every year for my birthday, but not since she moved to Boston :(
So I'm looking for suggestions for good black forest cakes in the city. Must have mushy cherries inside, real butter cream, the works.
thanks in advance!
Tim Tams at Montreal Loblaws?
saw originals at the Provigo in front of Cote-Vertu metro
O'Burger West Island
Trying to find more info on O'Burger which seems to be part of the Thai Express on St-Jean in DDO.
Has anyone been? Is it an organic burger joint, or am I way off?>
thanks
Tim Tams at Montreal Loblaws?
I found original flavor Tim Tams @ Maxi on Marcel-Laurin (Ville St-Laurent). Just what I needed - another sweets addiction! Very very tasty!
Chowder in Montreal?
I recently had a wonderful lobster and corn chowder in New Hampshire and was wondering if there are any good restos in Montreal that serve chowder - corn, clam, Manhattan, etc.
thanks!
edible Chinese food?
went to Maison Kam Fung the other day with high expectations. what's with this weird ratty looking pink "chicken" they use in their dishes? I normally only eat Chinese in the US and Ontario where you can actually identify the meat they are serving. I was going to get the duck but opted for a safe cantonese chow mein. Other than the squid, thick snotty glaze and limp veg, it was OK at best. my husband had the duck with 4 treasures - he was up visiting the bathroom all night. even the hunan dumplings were terrible. how can you screw that up?
is it a Montreal thing? I have been searching this forum and it seems so, even though I have read many recommendations for Kam Fung and other places like Ruby Rouge and Fu Kam Wah. Kam Fung came highly recommended but was a terrible disappointment. more mediocre Montreal Chinese food using mystery meat and grissly chicken. I've had better food at a buffet in Plattsburgh and countless restos in Ottawa and Kingston. what gives?!?
Authentic southern bbq in montreal
so what's the concesus - is there any decent BBQ in Montreal? I've been to Mesquite and Bofinger. Mesquite was over priced for bland and uninteresting food. Reminded me of La Louisiane - lame.
Bofinger was OK the first time I checked out the NDG location. I have been to the DDO location several times and it is OK too even though there's a hoser-fest going on with all the hockey crap and sports shows on the tv's (forget if NDG location even has big screen tv's?).
I always get the pork ribs which are ok. Sides are nasty except for fries. I made the mistake of getting a burger there - tasted awful, was it frozen, or just bad quality? I don't know. I do know that Harveys makes a tastier burger... but I disgress.
I just want to find some good soul food and bbq in this city without the trendy hipsters and exorbitant prices. is that too much to ask for?
High Peaks Resort-Lake Placid
another vote for Carribean Cowboy. it is the only place we eat at in LP. I find the prices a bit high, but the food is great, always generous portions, relaxed atmosphere which is great after a long day climbing, and some of the best key lime pie I have ever had.
stay away from Charlie's for dinner. awful, overpriced food.
authentic Mexican in Montreal
there used to be this place on ste-catherine near guy - great food, good prices. it seems to have closed down - has it moved or just closed completely?
also looking for suggestions for 'authentic' mexican restos. no carlos&pepes please - gross. just looking for good, cheap food.
thanks!
