Bristol Yard
I rode by the this place today and checked out the menu - they also look like they offer a solid breakfast menu. I'd like to try their pies. What kind of pie did you try dubchild? How was it? Wish they served pints -- maybe they will get their license.
list of "age-appropriate" pubs/bars/lounges in Toronto for Chowhounds who are over 30
The Queen and Beaver, The Rushton on St. Clair West....
Nice place for a coffee date in Little Italy
Kalendar at College/Euclid is quite nice and they have a patio. And if the date is going well you can always switch to wine....
Bibimbap in the PATH?
I'm glad you tried it but sorry it wasn't great. It used to be better. But I am glad they were friendly to you - they are a nice couple. I used to enjoy the noodle soup - it came with a tempura slice on top which was tasty.
Has Le Paradis Gone Downhill Recently?
Okay thanks everyone for weighing in - I will report back if our meal is any worse/better than my other experiences there.
Has Le Paradis Gone Downhill Recently?
My friend's birthday is coming up - I am taking her to Le Paradis because she has never been and it is a bit of a Toronto institution. But I've been hearing that the food has gone seriously downhill in recent months. I have not been in over a year. Can anyone confirm if this is true or whether it's still up to its former standards (competent bistro-type fare)? Has anyone tried it recently and if so what was your experience like?
Bibimbap in the PATH?
Hmmm.. Tovah, I don't recall an Aroma. That being said I have not been to this place in a year or more - maybe the food has gone downhill... I recall that it used to be tasty and quite packed at lunch.
Hip Toronto restaurant ideas needed - good food, service with terrace or outdoor space
Sidecar? It has a really nice patio and last time I went the food was solid. Good cocktails too.
Prince Edward County
I absolutely loved Harvest. IMHO Michael Potters is one of Canada's best chefs and his cooking there was outstanding - he had a hand in every single dish that went out of that kitchen (he was there constantly) -- everything was made in house from pastries to bread etc. All for a fraction of what you'd pay for a similar experience here in Toronto. I am SO sorry it closed. I still miss it every time I go to the County. I never had issues with the food but I have heard that the service could be quite poor (I never had this problem myself). For my money, East and Main is now my go-to County place. Honest, solid cooking with everything house made.
Prince Edward County
Sadly Fifth Town Cheese is closing - owner just announced the other day : (
Prince Edward County
East and Main is my favourite right now, especially now that Harvest has closed down. It also has a great vibe - the best of all the PEC restos IMHO.
Analysis Paralysis - Help me choose a restaurant: Nota Bene, Acadia, Campagnolo, Frank's Kitchen? Other?
Cava!
Bibimbap in the PATH?
Yes they are the same - just go down the escalator. I believe it's right near the Subway sandwich shop. It was obviously Korean to me - it's fast food -- there are a few seats although they are always packed up at lunch. Let me know how you like it.
Bibimbap in the PATH?
I wouldn't rule out the 121 King/Standard Life hole in the wall - I prefer it to Acko and Bob's. It's an older Korean couple and they do all the cooking and serving. I was addicted to their noodle soup for awhile....
Bibimbap in the PATH?
There is a tiny Korean place underneath 121 King St. West - very simple and yummy (and cheap).
Beef on Weck in Toronto?
I am really excited because I am heading to Schwabis for a beef on weck this weekend - thanks to this post for educating me about a sandwich I didn't know about previously! Can't wait to try it....
Critique my "must try" list for Toronto!
Actually one thing that's missing from your list is seafood (sushi aside of course). For this I would add Starfish, Rodney's and a new place at St. Clair and Christie called Catch that I finally tried on the weekend - it was excellent.
Critique my "must try" list for Toronto!
For Indian I would add Savera at St. Clair and Christie - it's small, family-owned and the food is superb.
St. Clair West - Much Me and Hardy's?
I noticed it when I went to get takeout at Savera the other night - it's on the North side of St. Clair across from there. Googled it and found this http://stclairmagazine.com/ and also another review that was positive and mentioned good draft beer (but that I now cannot find)... we might try it out for a drink this week. If we do I will report back...
St. Clair West - Much Me and Hardy's?
Are either of these new places worth trying? We are always looking for a decent restaurant that serves good food and great/interesting draft beer in the neighbourhood. Right now, The I think the Rushton is the best draft around - we'd like to branch out. How is the food at Much Me? Hardy's? Would welcome comments from anyone who's tried either place.
Salted Caramels.....I want these now!!
Xococava next to Cava at Yonge and St. Clair - they carry them and they are yummy.
keurig non disposable coffee filter
The Bay Queen Street - that's where we got ours. For grind, we've discovered that paper cone works better. We've been using Ezra's Pound coffee in it and it's great.
Brunchworks on St. Clair
I hear you on Boom vroyale. But it's the best of the bunch in this hood as far as our kids go - they are nuts about pancakes and sausages. Which is why I was hoping Brunchworks might be decent - they look like they've got pancakes etc. Cocolatte would be beyond my kids - no pancakes or homefries - plus the tables are kind of tippy and it's really small - I'd go with my girl, not my boy and definitely not with both in tow on a busy day (disaster). Might try Prop.....
Brunchworks on St. Clair
Vroyale, we usually go to Boom - it's small and there are lineups, but our kids are early risers so we get there early (before 9) and always get a table. The food is quite good and they have a TV with kids shows on in the back. They have a kids' menu too. It's over near Appleton.
Where to buy Chobani yoghurt in Toronto?
I've read that only a handful of stores in Toronto are stocking this US yoghurt because of issues with Canadian makers -- but apparently it's wonderful. Has anyone seen it at the grocery store? I'd be looking for full-fat plain greek style....I want to try it.
Brunchworks on St. Clair
Thanks vroyale - can I ask what you mean by getting the service figured out? Is it slow or inconsistent? Being with our kids who are 2 and 4 means that quick service is a must - we have a window of about 30 minutes where they will sit and be quiet - after that it's mayhem. Clarification would be helpful. Thanks!
Other restaurants then Enoteca Sociale, Campagnolo & Tourist spots?
Torito on Augusta - nice vibe, tapas.
Brunchworks on St. Clair
I've passed by this place a few times - has anyone been? Is it any good and if so is it kid-friendly?
Enoteca Sociale or Campagnolo ?
The thing about Enoteca is, I'd go a lot more if it wasn't so hard to get into. It's not a restaurant that is worth waiting for in terms of reserving ahead - I love the space, the good service, and especially the lovely wine list with some really interesting choices. But the food to me does not merit having to reserve ages in advance. I wish it was a place you could drop into - I'd go way more often. Maybe they need to open more bar space.
