Trying to think of recommendations for a relative - 3 Nights in NOLA this spring

A relative of mine and a close friend will be visiting NOLA, likely staying in the FQ or CBD this spring for a few nights. The shortlist of restaurants are:

Commander's
Dante's Kitchen
Brigsten's
Cochon
Atchafalya
Gautreau's

Assume one can be for lunch. I should add Mr. B's. I'm thinking that Dante's and Brigsten's are both pretty far, and one will be enough. And is Atchafalaya necessary, or a fall back?

Thanks!

birthday....

Birthday coming up, unsure of whether to go upscale steakhouse (between Ruth's and La Boca) or something special (thinking Clancy's, Le Foret or Gautreau's). Not looking to spend TOO much

Any ideas welcome!

Pureed vegetables in gumbo??

I just had some great gumbo ya-ya at Mr. B's, as well as some amazing seafood gumbo at Commander's Palace. I noticed that there were almost NO diced vegitables in either dish. My fiance had a few stray pieces of onions at Mr. B's, but other than that, nothing!

I've never noticed this, until lately I've started to cook gumbo myself. Is it possible they puree the vegetables and broth before adding the "protein"?

It's not mentioned in either Commander's cookbook or Mr. B's gumbo yaya recipe. I'm utterly baffled!!

Commander's Palace - Best Appetizer / Entrees

What would you suggest? Tom Fitzmorris says it's the rack of lamb, and other suggestions ?

I'm going in a few nights and can't decide what I'll get (and probably won't till I hear the specials)

What should I order?

Any tips on app's and entres? Dos or don'ts?

Brigtsen's - right now I'm leaning toward the duck for an entree, but am unsure about an appatizer

Commander's Palace - foie gras du monde, shrimp and tasso henican to start, then rack of lamb

K-Paul's - oysters pernod to start, then eggplant pirogue

Also, any suggestions on what to order at Cochon?

Recommendations For A 2 1/2 Day Visitor?

K-Paul's can be pricey, but it's atmosphere and food have a warm, welcoming south Louisiana feel.

Crawfish available?

Hey, I was wondering if crawfish will be available at the high-end type restaraunts, in early Febuary? I know "season" doesn't start for a few months, but I figure a place like K-Paul's will have fresh crawfish year round . . . no?

Two Po Boy Questions

Awesome.

I'm coming in on a Wed. night -- I'm going to try and have Verti deliver to my hotel in the CBD. I'll probably go with fried shrimp or rb (depending on what my girlfriend gets, because I'll be sure to have a third of hers!) . . . then the next day, think I'll go to Parkway. I was going to do Liuzza's, but after reading this post, am thinking against it.

Two Po Boy Questions

1: Is Verdi Marte's Roast Beef PoBoy any good? I've had their shrimp (amazing!), but was curious about the RB.

2)If I have one stop at Liuzza's by the Track, would you go with the bbq shrimp or roast beef / horse radish mayo po boy?

Thanks!

Eating Itinerary - Needs Feedback, Suggestions!

Hey all- This is my first posting. I'm visiting New Orleans with my girlfriend, early Febuary. We used to live in the city, but moved about six months ago. Needless to say, this is a very nostalgiac trip and I'm already planning my meals. Here is a rough sketch. Someone tell me what you think? Open to any and all suggestions!

Day 1 : arrive 10:30 pm, order verti mart on the way from airport to hotel (shrimp po boy)
(has anyone had verti mart's roast beef po'boy by the way? Is it any good?)

Day 2: Lunch: Liuzza's by the Track
Dinner: Brigsten's

Day 3 (friday): Lunch: Cochon / or Bon Ton Café / or Mr. B's(?)
Dinner: Commander's Palace

Day 4: Lunch: Galatoire's
Dinner: K-Paul's

My biggest "ehh" is Galatoire's for lunch. I'm not sure it's worth it, and might be a little much for a lunch the same day as K-Pauls. I want to avoid the overkill factor, but still want a memorable eating experience. I've obviously scheduled late dinners for all days, as I'm planning full lunches and don't want to be full!

What do you think?

Thanks-
