Help! Need fresh seafood market in Kissimmee

Vacationing in Kissimmee, Florida. Shopped at local Publix today, and the person in the seafood market told me that all seafood in the area is frozen, and there is no place to get fresh seafood.nThis cannot be the case!

I am making a seafood steampot tomorrow and need FRESH lobster, shrimp, mussels, etc. Can anyone point me to a great seafood market?

Thanks!

In town next week for Kiwanis Convention -- need avenues for family with children 11, 15 & 18

Email from friend- "I'm going to be in New Orleans next week...arriving Wednesday evening and leaving Saturday. I will be attending the Kiwanis Convention. I was wandering if you have any suggestions for our family while we are there (kids are 11, 15, and 18). I have only been there with adults!"

Any suggestions appreciated!

Chicago Trip Review 1 - Pizzeria Uno

Just arrived in town Tuesday, and Pizzeria Uno (and Due!) are right by the hotel. Therefore, I had a late lunch at Pizzeria Uno. It was mid-afternoon, and the place was busy but not too crowded. The server was pleasant. I had the Deep Dish Numero Uno individual pizza and a glass of Pinot Grigio.

I should have just ordered the cheese, because the raw bell peppers and mushrooms on top of the pizza underwhelmed me. There's a pretty thick crust, followed by a layer of cheese, a full patty of sausage, then a big puddle of warm sauce topped by the bell peppers and mushrooms. I ate half of it, and after a little while into it, it did seem to get better. Still, I was longing for the cooked taste and the browned cheese and ingredients on top.

I'm glad I went, and I'm sure the place is terrific. Guess I'm just a thin-crust girl at heart.

Went to Green City Market this morning at Lincoln Park, and that was terrific -- then a late pancake breakfast at Ella's. Naptime and then a cruise this evening. Chicago is terrific!

Approx 25 people.
They want to spend about $30/head with a cash bar.
They're all from NO, so it doesn't necessarily have to be in FrQtr.
Someone suggested Mid-City, also.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

Uncle John's BBQ, South Side

Thanks for the candid info. I'm about finished with the planning, and Uncle John's didn't make the cut. I appreciate all of the information and wish I could have made it. However, there are so many great dining choices in Chicago that I didn't want to go some place where I didn't feel safe to go alone. I had to cut Gibson's, too, because I could only get a 9:30 reservation, and I don't want to eat a huge steak that late at night. The good news is that I have so many great places and I can't wait until we leave.

Hot Doug's and Franks 'n' Dogs

Totally understood. So where would you go for dawgs? I've already planned a trip to Franks for Lyonnaise fries and a brunch or salmon for Saturday while in the Lincoln Park area. Doug's is still on the possibilities list, but I'm thinking I'll make it there. Do you have any opinions on the 2 places?

From reports I've read, they reheat easily, and that's essentially the plan. Eat some standing in the area or whatever, and then bring the rest back to the hotel. I really just want to taste it and see if it's that good.

Don't worry -- I never order baby backs :)

Uncle John's BBQ, South Side

I was looking for the aquarium-style bbq, because I've never had it. I've eaten some great Texas style bbq while in Texas, so that's not I'm looking for. As far as BBQ in general, it's not something I typically seek out, but when it's great, it's great.

Safety is the only factor. I will have to go alone, because of his schedule. He's free Saturday, but I already have that day booked. If I can't go to this place safely on Wed or Thurs, I'll have to cut it from the schedule.

My starting point is the River North area, and I'm doing mostly the trains for transportation. I am okay with cabs, however.

Hot Doug's and Franks 'n' Dogs

Thanks. That's great info to have. I already copied the directions and pasted them in my itinerary. Good info on the fries, too. I might just go on a weekday and off-peak hours and skip the duck fries so I don't have to fight with hubbie and get him to stand in a line on the weekend.

Uncle John's BBQ, South Side

Was planning a trip to this place. Will be on my own during the day. Would it be safe for me to go there alone, or should I wait until Saturday when I will have husband with me?

Also, I found a lot of reviews at Yelp! but I'm not fully trusting of that board, and while I totally trust this board, there doesn't seem to be many reviews of this place.

Is this a place you recommend? I was going to get the ribs, rib tips and hot link with no sides.

TIA

Hot Doug's and Franks 'n' Dogs

Will be in town mid-June and want to go to Hot Doug's because I have heard about that place for years and have never had the opportunity to go. I've checked the site, and there are lots of warnings for expecially long lines on Fridays and Saturdays, so I would like to avoid those days, but that seems to be the only days they make the duck fat fries. Also, it doesn't seem like it's convenient to the transit system, and I won't have a car. We're staying at Embassy Suites on State, which (I think) is River North area, and I'll be using the trains to get around during the day while he's at a conference. Estimated cab fare?

I was wondering if it was worth all of the trouble to get there or if there was something similar more conveniently located.

Also, I saw a tv special on Chicago food and Andrew Z was gung-ho on Franks 'n' Dogs. Opinions on that ???

Need suggestions.

TIA

Need fun restaurant for 2 couples both 25 yrs old

Thanks! That's what I recommended. He called me this morning, so I had to go with something. For fun, I recommended Jacques-Imos and a place called Rambla in the CBD for tapas. Also suggested GW Fins, and then for something nicer, I suggested Brightsen's.

No food issues.

Could you give me the location of the original Uno's? I've googled, but the franchise/group site comes up and asks you to choose a location. I don't know which location to choose.

You're exactly right! I just googled images for Gino's East Chicago, and found this: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

That was definitely the place! I've *never* seen graffiti like that any other time in my life!

New Orleans Chowhound coming to Chicago June 8th - 11th and needs help with itinerary

Absolutely had to phone them, and then I had to be really, really nice. Our reservation is early, but I'm hoping to call them every day to see if they had any cancellations or if we can go later. Our reservation is 5:30, and I'm thinking that appetizer/salad will take at least 45 minutes, so we'll be eating steak closer to 6:30. She did say that they do not take reservations for their patio tables, and they are first come, first serve, so maybe that could work out, but we already know the boy hates waiting. Anyway, Plan A is complete as they already emailed me confirmation of the reservation.

Now, I'm finding some way to put Uno's back in the itinerary. However, just to be sure, the place we ate before was Uno's, because I'm not sure that it was. The place we ate was a big place with old-style booths. Graffiti everywere was par for the course, and I seem to recall names/etc all carved into the tables. Does that sound like Uno's? If not, I *definitely* have to get them back in the itinerary. The pizza at that place was good; I just wish I could find the pictures/name, etc., but I do think it was Uno's.

You are a gem! Regarding Gibsons, other than the 'see and be seen' type of atmosphere, it sounds perfect! I love old boys club type places. I looked at the steakhouse you suggested, but if the steaks are great in both places, the atmosphere at Gibsons wins out (just a personal preference).

I can't eat a big steak too late at night, so that omits steak after a play on Thursday, so we're keeping Gibsons on Friday. Considered GWAG, but their site states they close at 11 on weeknights, so that would be iffy. Sounds like a grazing dinner back at the hotel for bread, cheese & wine, and that is sooo okay by me :)))

New Orleans Chowhound coming to Chicago June 8th - 11th and needs help with itinerary

Thank you so much! I have an open spot for breakfast on Friday when I had planned on just sleeping in and grazing on bread/cheese for breakfast, but Bongo's would fit in that spot.

On another note, I can only fit in one (1) of the Italian places I mentioned. I've reviewed their menus, and they all look good. However, for some reason I'm leaning towards Piccolo Sogno. Any notes on these places would be most appreciated.

I arrive at 2:10pm on Wednesday, so that *just* gives me time to go to Girl & the Goat and be there for 4:30. It will be a little rushed, but that's the only day I can fit it in. Afterwards, we can go to Fox & Obel Market. I checked their website, and it says they are open until midnight.

Thursday is breakfast at Ina's with a late lunch at the Purple Pig. He *hates* all lines, and we're going to be having a good breakfast anyway. That's 2 good places to eat on Thursday, and I'd like to go to the theatre Thursday night. I don't think we'll be that hungry for dinner, so I'm keeping this dinner spot open. I don't want GWAG on this night, because I don't want to eat at PP & GWAG on the same day, and I want steak Friday night. Are there any late night supper places to eat after the theatre?

Friday, we could do breakfast at the Bongo Room. Lunch could be fun at Portillo's AND Al's beef. We could only order 1 sandwich at each place and share it, then go to the other place and compare. Friday is steak night, and I'm leaning toward's Gibsons but I'm open to other suggestions.

That cuts Uno's out of the itinerary, but we've eaten there before, so that would be okay.

He's counting on me to have all of this stuff figured out before we go, and for that, I am so very thankful for all of your suggestions and for the opportunity to review the board and read comments from so many people.
