CK, you are correct, this is my first set of stainless steel as well.
Thanks everyone for all the great info!
Cleaning All Clad Stainless - photo attached
Hey guys, I have a question about cleaning my all clad stainless steel cookware. I just purchased a new set on Monday. Cooked some chicken breasts in the 10" fry pan, cleaned it after and it looked fine. This morning, I cooked some peppers/onions and then some chorizo in the fry pan. After soaking it hot/soapy water for a few minutes, washing with a washcloth and immediately drying it the pan looked like the enclosed photo. Both times I coated the pan with olive oil and let the pan heat up before adding the food. The heat I used was lower than medium, a couple notches before medium on my stovetop. So just wondering if anyone has some ideas on what I did wrong or what this stain in my fry pan is.
I'd appreciate any and all responses. Thanks guys!!
Boston Chowhounders Visiting the Twin Cities, Looking for Suggestions
Brasa is highly recommended!! I always tell my wife this is the place I would take out of town guests that won't drill a gaping hole in their wallet. Their slow roasted pork with the lime/ginger aioli is fantastic. Yams with andouille, collard greens with smoked turkey and the cornbread are must haves, making my mouth water as I type. They also have rotisserie chicken, spicy braised beef and pulled chicken with cream and poblanos as meat options. And please, while you are in town, you must try a pint of Surly beer. Furious is the IPA, pairs wonderfully with the meats at Brasa!
Strip Club is also a must hit. I have only been there once but I am still thinking about the strip steak I had. The small plates for sides are a refreshing twist on the usual sides you are offered at steak places. Must get reservations like turtle said.
Cafe Lurcat in Loring Park (Minneapolis) is also a very nice option.
Breakfast Tailgating Ideas
Wondering if anyone had any good ideas/recipes for tailgating before an 11am football game? Breakfast burritos are great but would like to mix it up a little and try some new ideas. We're cooking on a Weber Spirit so the sky is the limit. Thanks!!
Looking for advice on a three-day trip to MSP
I second, third and fourth the recommendation for Brasa. Moderately priced speaking, this is the place I would take out of town guests.
For a great beer bar with even better food you might want to give the Bulldog NE a try. They have a number of outstanding burgers on the menu, great apps and the cupcakes for dessert are wonderful. Make sure you sample our local craft beers as well; Summit and Surley!
Restaurant recs between Dana Hotel and United Center
I am looking for a restaurant somewhere between the Dana Hotel (660 N. State) and the United Center.
Criteria: The wife and I are going to the Pearl Jam shows and would like some great food pre concert. A place where jeans and tshirt are sufficient. $20 and under per entree would be great. A nice beer selection would be a plus. Any cuisine is fine, we love all food. We have been to Billy Goat Tavern and Italian Village so we can rule those out. We won't have a car so we'll be traveling by taxi.
Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
San Diego recs.
I agree you must rent a car unless you plan on staying in a one mile radius of your hotel. Cab is expensive, Trolley is hideous and who wants to ride the bus system in a strange city? It is definately worth the money to be able to get to all the great restaurants in the city and the surrounding areas. How would you get to Super Cocina, Blue Water Seafood, George's, Hillcrest Farmers Market without spending a fortune on cab rides?
San Diego Vacation choices. Input requested!
Raboi, I would highly recommend trying to get to Super Cocina. My wife and I were in SD on vacation in May and went there based on recommendations on this board. In a word it was outstanding. Besides the food, the best thing about it is you can sample basically every dish they have to offer that day. For kids I am sure they would devour the carnitas and they have these great potato cakes that i'm sure kids would love. Try not to miss this opportunity!!
MSP - Burger Jones opens today
Doesn't Burger Jones have takeout? Two hour wait?? I'm ordering it to go, having a beer while I wait and eating in my car while the other suckers wait another 90 minutes to get seated.
Must eats: first visit to San Diego
After my first visit to San Diego a couple weeks ago I suggest you must try Super Cocina and Blue Water Seafood. Also I second Cowboy Star.
MSP - Burger Jones opens today
Anyone going to check the new Parasole Restaurant today or this week. Any and all reviews would be appreciated! The menu online looks great and I can't wait to try this place.
Week of SD Restaurants - Summary
The wife and I were in San Diego on vacation from the Twin Cities last week (May 2-9). I did my homework on these boards and wanted to pass along our week of mostly great food:
5/2 - Got into SD at 2pm and had reservations at Cowboy Star that night. Food and service were great. Wife had Berkshire Pork Shank with pickled cabbage and whipped potatoes. I had the 14 oz Ribeye with asparagus and whipped potatoes. The waiter said it best on the pork "it's so tender you'll forget to chew." Kudos to our waiter as well, Peter. Very chatty but funny and charming.
5/3 - Went to Hillcrest Farmers Market and sampled our way through breakfast. This is one of the best farmers markets. Bought lots of fruit for the hotel. Had Carne Asada tacos for lunch at a booth I cannot remember the name of.. Dinner at Blue Water Seafood. Mahi Mahi sandwich and fish tacos. Really fresh fish and perfectly grilled. Fish tacos are gigantic so beware when they ask if you want two. Highly recommended.
5/4 - Dinner at Chilango's in Hillcrest. Met the waiter/host who's mother started this place, very nice and gracious guy. He said he's been on this site and is very appreciative of the positive reviews. The menu is very extensive and we wanted to try just about everything. Started with the guacamole with mango. Nice riff with the mango, very sweet and delicious. Wife had the Chile relleno la cerda. Filling was pork, bacon, onion and cheese. Can't remember the name of my dish but amounted to pork with mushrooms, onion and bacon, topped with cheese and serverd with tortillas. This place is great, would love to go again.
5/5 - Cinco de Mayo and the most blah food day. Spent the day north of the city so had lunch at Board and Brew in Del Mar. Good, simple sandwich shop. We had tuna sandwich and turkey sandwich both on giant white bread. Pretty good for what it was. Dinner we tried to eat at a couple spots in "tourist trap" Old Town. 2 hr wait at Old Town Mexican Cafe, 1.5 hr wait at Casa Guadalahara so we went back to the hotel in the city and walked to Yardhouse. Not horrible, but pretty average. Wife had bernaise sliders and kept commenting on how bland they were. I had a spicy chicken sandwich which quickly became blah. It wasn't a total bust since my pint of Green Flash West Coast IPA was fantastic!
5/6 - Lunch at The Brigantine on Coronado. We both had the fish tacos since they came recommended numerous times on this site. There was a lot going on in these fish tacos, not your traditional fish/cabbage/pico/sauce. I wasn't a fan of the shredded cheese but the fried fish was fantastic. I rated them below Blue Water but they were still great and recommended. Dinner we picked up a pizza at Bronx and went back to the hotel. Pepp/Sausage/Green Pepper deliciousness! It was thin, cheesy, greasy and great! I stopped myself at 3 slices, probably could have went for 4 it was so good.
5/7 - AKA "the best food day of the trip". Started off with lunch at the outstanding Super Cocina. Words cannot describe how good this lunch was. After getting to sample about 10 of the dishes, I had the carnitas, potato cakes and rice. The corn tortillas were top notch and the cups of cilantro and onions were exactly the right toppings. Wife had chicken enchiladas verde and chicken with some outstanding red sauce. We left this place in a food euphoria. I want to clone it and bring it to the Twin Cites. Dinner was at Hodad's in Ocean Beach. Both had the single with cheese and bacon. I can't imagine eating the double since the single was so huge. Fries were great. Must get the chocolate malt for dessert.
5/8 - Our last great meal of the trip was lunch at Point Loma Seafoods. Wow is this place a zoo! We had the halibut sandwich and fish tacos. My only qualm was the halibut sandwich had only tartar sauce, could have used lettuce/onion/tomato. Same review as Blue Water. Dinner was at Coronado Brewing Company. We had guacamole, vegetable calzone, chicken sandwich. The same kind of average food as Yardhouse but again, the IPA, Islandweizen and Orange Ave. brews were all fantastic.
5/9 - Last day, plane left in afternoon so luch was near the airport. Went to Pizza Nova in Point Loma. Satisfying. Had the lunch special of house salad and mini pizza. Wife had the minestrone. Another place where the king of the meal was the beer; Ballast Point IPA.....mmmmm.
Thanks for all the recommendations. We had a great vacation in this wonderful city. We are anxiously awaiting Super Cocina to open a midwest branch! :)
Early patio openings? (MSP)
Had dinner on the patio at Three Squares in Maple Grove last Thursday (4/9) during their big Surley firkin bash. Will be there Thursday for the Oberon release!
Craft Beer in West Coast
Midwest guy here traveling to San Diego in May wondering if I can get some ideas on what craft beers to try while I'm out there? I am aware of the famous Russian River Pliney the Elder and cannot wait to try this.....would like more recs in the IPA/DIPA or Pale Ale category. Thanks!
Great restaurant near hotel
The wife and I are visiting San Diego in early May. We'll be flying in early afternoon and basically for the rest of the day just looking for a good restaurant near our hotel and a place to have a drink or two after while watching a good sunset. We are staying at The Sofia.
Looking for a restaurant within walking distance (1 mile is ok), mid priced, great food obviously and we're not too picky so any/all recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks!
Pepper and Egg Sandwich - MSP
TDQ, I hadn't heard of them until I moved to the Chicago area. Had my first one at Portills and loved them ever since. Can't really find them here in the MLPS area. A great meatless option to the lenten meatless Fridays.
NellyNel - please excuse my semantics faux pas, of course I meant bread. :) Thanks for the quick and easy recipe!!
Pepper and Egg Sandwich - MSP
Couple of questions about this great sandwich that comes around during Lent:
1) Anyone know of places in the Twin Cites that has a good pepper and egg sandwich? Chris and Robs?
2) If no, does anyone have a good recipe for this delicious sandwich? Please include best place to buy the most important part, the bun!
Thanks!!!!
Hopslam - how to store?
Thanks guys. Got my case of Hopslam on Tuesday. Had two already. The other 22 are sitting in my fridge!
Hopslam - how to store?
So I am picking up a case on Wednesday and wondering what is the best way to store it? I am hoping it will last a few months and I am pretty sure I don't want to just throw it in the fridge from day 1. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Which Brewpubs Have Good Food?
I know this is a stretch for most people but the Kona Brewing Company on the Big Island in Hawaii has excellent food! The pizza is some of the best i've had outside of Chicago. Was there for a week on my honeymoon and the wife and I ate there twice.
MSP - Daytime bar stops?
The Bulldog in Lowertown is a good option. I have only been to the one in N.E. but I am assuming they are very similar. It's bar/grill type setting so might be better for walk in. Great place to go for drinks, especially for beer geeks. The food is significantly better than your normal bar/grill. Outstanding burgers (all kobe beef), hot dogs and great bar food apps (chile w/ brisket is a must try).
