Peanut Butter -- how do you eat it (and on what kinds of different foods)?

With all the pb and bacon fans out there, I'm surprised no one has tried pb and ham. A nice mound of thinly-sliced black forest ham with peanut butter as my sandwich spread. Yum! Sometimes I'll add a shmear of sugar-free fig preserves to that too. Figs and ham are a natural combo and the pb just makes it sing!

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

I haven't read all 1,026 replies but I haven't seen my strange pairing yet - I love peanut butter with ham. Thinly sliced black-forest ham and pb...yum! Sometimes I'll add my fav sugar-free fig preserves too.

Healthy but festive place for friends to catch up?

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions!!! No matter where we end up, where we don't, will be added to the list for next time so I'm excited to have those spots to try!

Healthy but festive place for friends to catch up?

Thanks for those suggestions! I had never heard of Wildwood Grill and the menu looks great! Into the glass sounds like a fun place to taste a variety of wines without going to a vineyard.

Healthy but festive place for friends to catch up?

I'm meeting a friend of mine this Saturday. She's going to be in the FW area, and I live in Richardson. We are both willing to drive to meet especially for the right place. We are looking for a place where we can enjoy a healthy meal but also indulge in a glass or two of wine. We haven't seen each other in a while so I imagine we might be there a while.

I've thought about Cafe Express but wanted some other suggestions.

I'm honestly not sure how ethnic she likes to go with her cuisine so I can't add any more parameters to my request! Thanks for any suggestions!

Fried Burritos

I have a good friend who is an Area Manager for Allsups. I'm not sure where you are KOF, but I know there should be a store opening near the Texas Motorspeedway. Other than that Sachse location the next closest one is to the West in Stephenville.

While you try their "World Famous Beef and Bean Burritos" their Chuckwagon also has chimichangas too. I preferred those as they contained shredded meat and green chiles. Both are deliciously sinful. I'm also a huge fan of their "Kettle Wings." Yes fried chicken wings that either original, Spicy or BBQ seasoned. Not saucy and the quality of their wings has always been fantastic. Sounds crazy but I'm a huge fan!

Searching for Chile Garlic Dressing recipe....

Mi Cocina in D/FW serves a chile garlic dressing/sauce with various menu items and I am trying to recreate it. It's not too spicy but has a kick. It's a nice consistency for a salad dressing and sauce yet not too thin or thick. Any tips on recreating this would be so appreciated.

Thanks!

Pictures of your food?

It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread but I thought it was pretty cool when a writer from the New York Times contacted me about this very subject! Here's the link to the finished, published article:

Pictures of your food?

Does anyone take pictures of their food? I'm not talking high tech magazine-quality pics or anything, just a quick snapshot of a great looking plate of food before digging in.

My mom and I seem to do this for each other and it's never mattered if it's a meal while dining out or something we have prepared at home. I tend to post pics on my facebook page and I've had more comments on my pictures of food then usually anything else!

People giggle at me when I'm eating and pull out my phone to take a pic of my food while everyone else is digging in but, I just can't seem to help it.

Just wanted to poll the public and see if anyone else did this and if so, why?

Bacon grease storage

I keep mine in a small jar on the counter. I remember reading somewhere that it was totally ok to keep it out vs in the fridge. I don't usually have just a whole lot and it gets used fairly quickly. I'm much more apt to use a spoonful here and spoonful there if I keep it in plain sight!

What did you learn about cooking or food from this Thanksgiving?

My Thanksgiving day fate was undetermined up until the last minute, so I wasn't responsible for bringing any food to what became our destination. Ended up at my in-laws, as I have been for Thanksgiving many times before. It is always a very large gathering of assorted family members. I come from a much smaller family and my parents choose to vacation with friends over the holiday rather than host or participate in traditional-style festivities. So after 2.5 hours with 33 other in-laws....here's what I learned:

1. No matter how I may feel prior to going, I am always happy to have been.
2. If we were ever to be late - they probably would not wait to eat.
3. There is comfort to knowing exactly what will be served...year after year after year. But...
4. It's okay if I want to be different or creative.

And finally....

5. I learned that no matter who I'm with or where I am, food brings us all together. And THAT is something to be thankful for.

Texas Chicken Fried Steak

I have to agree with 'LewisvilleHounder' about the CFS at Mary's Cafe in Strawn. It is the ONLY thing I order when I go there and it is the best I've ever had. I've never had a negative fork-tender experience, although I would think at some point it would be inevitable. I don't know what they do to their meat prior to cooking, but all my visits have been extremely consistent in quality and taste. When I want CFS, I go directly to Mary's!
