Dark 'n' Stormy Recommendations?

I love dark and stormys! I make them at home with diet hansons ginger ale instead of ginger beer. Not as good but not bad for a low sugar alternative.

Restaurants everyone loves--except you

I went back to Vietnam after a years absence ,it really went down hill. They were cooking with canned mushrooms ,yuck! Also there were a lot of water chestnuts in dishes that shouldnt have had them.Never going back there for me.

Dim Sum

I have never had Dim Sum and have no clue about which restaurant is the best one to try. I would like to go to Chinatown and have a yummy experience. Also is Dim Sum served only on Sunday?

Upscale Italian in Bala Cynwyd

I think that we paid 100$ for two people. I thought that it was worth it though. They still have the Dover Sole that they fillet table side. Hope this helps...

Classic northen Italian dishes , dishes that have not been influenced by new or fusion styles of cooking. Hope this helps...

Restaurants Near Academy of Music

What ever you do dont go to Bronzino. I dont know why people like this place but Ive eaten there a few times and in my experience the food is mediocre and the service is at best spotty, not the kind of place for a first anniv. I love the Capitol Grill , The Prime Rib , Parc and Rouge. Have fun!

my foodie sisters are coming to visit from NY

Its not Italian but if the price is no object I know that anyone from NY will be impressed with the food and the atmosphere is killer! I would also take them to China Town for a meal and the Reading terminal market for a meal or snack...

Upscale Italian in Bala Cynwyd

We just had a really good dinner at La Collina. I have not been there in many years but I was glad that they are still serving very good classic Italian food. The service was seamless: so hard to come by today. The pasta was perfectly done and the fish, served table side was fresh and nicely done. It was old school for sure but some things are best left alone. I wouldnt order the deserts,it was the one down side of the meal.

I should have read the reviews before I went. I didnt think to check, but most people seemed pretty disapointed in the food and service and I agree with them. Too bad we waisted our time and $.

I just tried out a new local rest. on the Mail Line with three others. It was a Saturday night so they should have been at the top of their game. The menu is French with some Italian thrown in for good measure. I had one of the worst meals I have ever had ,and its too bad because I wanted to like the place. The house salad was just O.K, when one of my dinning companions asked for more dressing because it was underdressed for her taste, the snippy hostess had the nerve to tell her it was done the " French way ". Does she think we just crawled out from under a rock?I found this to be so rude considering she probably has eaten more terrific French meals than anyone Ive known. I ordered rack of lamb, the most expensive dish on the menu. When it came to the table it reeked with a fowl odor. I couldnt believe my nose, I have never had such old piece of meat served to me before . My dinner companions noticed it too and we sent it back, yuck!!! O.K. things were not working out to say the least. We also ordered pasta that was just O.K ,they had forgotten to salt it ,it had no flavor . We were comped desert , it was very average ,considering they bake in house. I will say that the chef did the right thing and came out before we left and gave his apology and comped us a meal in the future. Not sure if Ill go back even with the comp... If I were you I would wait on this place and see if they get their act together. In a nut shell the service was poor and the food was bad, what else can I say?

Kabab Cafe - Gateway Shopping Center (near K of P)

I tried Kabab a few weeks ago. The food is really good and it is authentic. I have a problem with everything being served in plastic containers. Even if you are eating there you have to eat out of a take-out container. I find that a turn off and not at all " green". If they dont want to use dishes at least use paper plates.

Dinner in Philly

A nice spot for out of towners is Parc. Its atmosphere is swanky and the food is always good and there is something for everyone. I love Zahav too.

Sunday Brunch at The Four Seasons: The Fountain Room vs The Swann Cafe

The Swann is a totally buffet experience. The Fountain is a buffet of cold apps. and an off the menu main course that you choose. The food is good at both but the menu at the Fountain is totally different from the Swann. Its really a matter of which you prefer.

I was hoping that they would get their act together, sounds like more of the same customer abuse and mediocre food. Not a winning combo!

Good Red Sauce Italian in western burbs of Philly?

It may be a bit upscale from red sauce and gravy but 4 of us went to Pepperonchini in Conchi and we all had a very good meal. I dont know if there are any old school italian places like that left on the Main Line...

Philly-area waterfront restaurants

La Veranda has very good food and I think that the valet parking is free. Im not sure if they are opened for lunch, Iv only had dinner there. Ask for a view location, its a pretty spot.

Decent student-friendly restaurants within about 15 minutes or so of Villanova

FYI the Jewel of India is closed and so is the Point. Try Sang Kee in wynnewood , next to the Whole foods, Samaurai has good sushi and they are in that area.

I know what you mean about feeling like you should dress up. I woulnt go there in shorts and a tee shirt but dressy casual is fine. Like alot of older rest.. the dress code has been relaxed . Have fun wherever yo choose!

Family Birthday Dinner-Seafood

I know the New tavern and like you say the food is pretty good but it may not be special enough. Have you tried Flemmings in Radnor? They have some good seafood and fish dishes and people come dressed as they please. Another idea is if your coming from the main line ,how about La Collina. They have free valet parking , very good old school Italian food and a wonderful dover sole. Its very pretty at night up on the hill, a bit of faded elegance for sure but your Mother may like it.

Family Birthday Dinner-Seafood

My husband and I and my 80+ parents went to Branzino last Sunday night. Hubby ordered gnocci and thought that the sauce was below average. I ordered a veal dish and although the flavor was good the veal was chewy and in Philadephia where good veal is so prevalent this did not make me happy. I thought that the service was just OK, nothing special. We will not go back because we felt it was not great. I guess if your looking for a pre dinner rest. near to the Kimmel center it would be OK. I didnt feel that it was a special occasion rest. IMO .

I second the suggestion of Estia, the food and service has always been good . I also love Savona for a special occasion rest. They have a top notch kitchen , but it may be too far out on the Main Line. Ive had many good meals at La Veranda. They grill fresh fish and meats on an open grill and the Italian specialties are very good. They have valet parking and its easy to get in and out. I know its old school and not very hip but I love their grilled meats and seafood.

A La Maison - BYOB - Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore

I know the table that you were at ; the back door does open and there is no vestibule or curtain to protect dinners. In tis winter climate its unfortunate that they dont care enough to think of their customers comfort and their response to you I found typical. For a rest. of that price range I find this attitude to be way out of line.
