Mercato Red Hook
I'm not a fan. Despite advertising, in part, as a "pasta shop" (see the photo on the home page of their website), I stopped in to buy their highly regarded pasta. After being sized up by a disinterested staff, a bothered waitress made her way into the kitchen. Several minutes later, she returned with a package of dry linguine claiming it was "gourmet." I would have understood if they didn't have any fresh pasta for sale, but don't treat customers like an ignorant tourist. The public is much more thoughtful and discerning these days (thanks to sites like chowhound, no doubt)..
Lavia Del Gusto - new Italian Market & Bakery
Just a quick note to share the name of a new Italian Market/Bakery in Manchester, CT. I am a big fan of Arthur Avenue in the Bronx and the markets/bakeries in the South End of Hartford. While not quite comparable, the quality of the baked goods (breads, pastries, etc.), sandwiches and specialty items at Lavia Del Gusto (255 Broad Street, in the former Strano Bakery building) are worth a visit. if you are east of Hartford and need to stock up on pasta, cheese, olive oils or italian cold cuts, this place is definately worth a visit. The family owners are gracious, kind and display good quality and prices. There is a cafe on site for an espresso and pastry.
Torn Again over Italian
After searching the board, and refreshing my memory about a previous post, we made a reservation at Peasant for dinner during an upcoming visit. There is an available reservation at Del Posto and was wondering if the price is worth the difference. Any other suggestions for Italian are appreciated as well.
Thanks.

Torn for Italian
Marea's menu looks great - thanks for the suggestion. We are staying uptown so I was leaning toward A Voce. Thanks for adding Marea to the mix. Quesiton - is the Four Course Pre-Fixe or Tasting Menu the way to go?

Torn for Italian
After searching the board, we've narrowed the field down to two restaurants, Apizz or A Voce (Columbus) for dinner during an upcoming visit. Which would make for a more enjoyable experience for my wife and me and why? Do you have other suggestions, maybe for a rustic italian restuarant at a similar price point?
Thanks.

After Show Dinner in Providence
Thanks gang. These all appear to be good suggestions. With regard to price restrictions, there are none, but we will be comfortably dressed (i.e., jeans) after the show.
After Show Dinner in Providence
We're going to see a show at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Weybosset street. Any suggestions on a late dinner? Preferrably good casual italian or pub food nearby or near our hotel on Mathewson (Hotel Providence). Thanks Chowhounds!
Rome - chow near Villa Borghese
Thanks CJT. Is our price range reasonable for the area? This will be our first visit.
Rome - chow near Villa Borghese
My wife and I are visiting Rome this April. We are looking for rustic, family run restaurants near Villa Borghese. Around 50 Euros per person is what we are looking to spend. Thanks.
