Sea Isle City
My favorite is Basilicos 27 43rd Street. Very busy during dinner so make reservations or go early. They renovated this year so the inside is nicely done. Vinson is in charge of the pizzas and is a co-owner who is extremely friendly and their staff has always been good.
Last month, our 8 p.m. table was being held up by a group who had been there well over 2 hours and knew people were waiting for them to leave. The hostess nicely told them that they needed to vacate the table and brought over their check - while we waited for them to s l o w l y gather their belongings, Vinson poured our wine, brought out bread for us to nibble on at the hostess stand and when we finally got seated, sent over a comped appetizer to make up for our wait while joking with us. Their attention kept us from getting irritated and ensured we will keep coming every year.
They do a brisk take out business which is another option if you don't want to wait.
Atlantic City...reccomendations?
See the bottom of the pages for other AC reccommendations. There are so many options and not all of them are located in casinos. One place I would like to try due to some good reviews on this board is Kelsey and Kim's Soul Food. But it will be a busy weekend for the shore due to the holidays and people checking out Revel. I would choose a place and try to get a reservation.
Looking for mom and pop type Italian restaurants in South Jersey
Really? I still think it's amazing so many new restaurants are opening up in this economy - but I think this place will never truly be like the "Original Spaghetti House."
For now, I have decided we really like Sal and Joe's service and food. Friendly, casual and inexpensive.
I plan to try Stefano's soon since they advertise a gluten free menu and a friend who loves to dine out is always looking for that option.
Where's the best pizza in Cherry Hill?
Our family favorites are King of Pizza on Rt. 70 and Kings Highway Pizza, a little hole in the wall place near the Cherry Hill library. We like it thin and crispy and they always honor our requests. My sister has been known to order and freeze KOP pies and panzarottis, pack them into her luggage and bring them back to Lake Tahoe with her.
Need Kosher style caterer in Trenton - Camden aREA
I cannot vouch for their food but I do know in Cherry Hill at the Barclay Center, there is a kosher restaurant called the Cherry Grill (856)428-6666. Just last night I was there to eat at another restaurant when I was approached by a group who asked me where it was located. They told me they were meeting there with another group who all said the food was very good.
Non Traditional Breakfast Ideas
We grew up eating fried rice for breakfast. Hot pan, a dash of bacon grease, add leftover rice, meat and vegetables from last night's dinner , stir until heated through. Drizzle a bit of fish sauce or soy sauce, crack an egg either on top of the rice or add separately, fried on the side. Great with bacon, pan fried hot dog, fried spam or corned beef from a can or sausage. My American friends would beg to sleep over so they could eat this on a weekend morning with my family.
We stopped eating that as a family when I got into high school but that's what my Dad wanted pretty much every morning of his life until his double bypass. LOL
uses for sriracha??
I love mixing it with ketchup. I usually put a couple of tablespoons on the side of baked chicken, fried chicken or steak and dip the meat in before each bite.
Marlton Farmers Market: anyone been there yet?
What a great idea. I might have to check it out next week...I had often thought the space in Cherry HIll on 70 in the old National Warehouse building would benefit from a similar idea. After visiting NYC's Chelsea Market yesterday, I long for a foodie destination in this area.
Cherry Hill area hoagies
Chose DiVello's since it was so close. Got a tray of Italian, roast beef, turkey and an eggplant for the vegetarians. No mustard on them and only the turkey had mayo as requested. The tray was devoured and a few checked out the label to see where they came from. Thanks for the suggestion. I was happy with the results.
New stainless steel gas oven - best cleaning agents?
Before I spend $50 on various brands, what is your favorite brands to clean stainless steel and the Enamel top? How about the cast iron grids and top of burners to get the cooked on stains off? I am so afraid of scratching or ruining the finish. So far the Easy Off stainless steel cleaner doesn't seem to get rid of finger prints or streaks.
Cherry Hill area hoagies
I need to order quite a few hoagies for a gathering next week and not being a huge hoagie fan, not sure where the favorites are. Any suggestions to place this order?
Mongolian Beef
I just tried this recipe for the first time - read my recent review.
http://www.food.com/recipe/p-f-changs-mongolian-beef-66121
It turned out really quite good...and the other tweak I didn't write about is besides decreasing the amount of brown sugar, I also added the syrup that I just drained from my daughter's mandarin orange snack cup.

My husband and I went the other night. It was pretty tasty though not as great as I remember - but getting older will do that for you. First of all, I recall their garlic bread used to be sliced open Amaroso type long rolls, toasted well with olive oil, garlic and a hint of tomatos. Their bread basket on the table now comes with garlic knots, warmed sliced Italian bread, some of which were their new version of garlic bread.
My husband ordered baked ravioli, served in a large bowl which my husband liked very much. I debated between the fra diavolo pasta from my memories versus chicken parm dinner. I decided on the chicken dish, thinking if that was done well, I'd try the seafood on the next go around. I had a generous chicken portion, nicely breaded with plenty of melted mozzarella cheese. I wish they had given me a slightly larger portion of pasta with it - although I made a point to save a portionof both for lunch the next day, there was barely enough. I also felt that although the red sauce was tasty, it seemed a bit thin - I prefer a thicker sauce.
Husband finished off the meal with a triple chocolate cake which came with a few dollops of whipped cream. He finished that off as well, so I assume there were not complaints from that department.
There was one other table filled with a father and 4 hungry kids. They ordered 20 wings and a large pizza to share. Their wings came quickly enough and everyone remarked they were good but their pizza took forever to arrive. It looked really good - thin crispy crust and plenty of cheese, too.
So yes, I would go again and it certainly fills my criteria as a mom and pop Italian restaurant. I also give a thumbs up to Sal and Joe's and Forno's as well. I'll slowly hit the rest of the list in the next 6 months...
How to make stovetop rice?
Also easy to find at your local Ross, TJ Maxx for probably $6-9...I have the best luck with the a nonstick interior and a tight fitting glass lid so I can keep an eye on the cooking rice. I have had several friends ask me what rice cooker I use and I always get one of these little pots for them.
Does anyone use the finger method with the white Asian rice? I grew up putting my middle finger lightly on top of the rice, adding to just under the line of my first knuckle. I have never measured the amount of water to add to rice. By trial and error, I've also taught my friends to do this and they are all amazed.

Wow, I'm so hoping the food is as good as I remember from the 80s. Will plan to go possibly this weekend and will report back about my impressions.
Philippine Cuisine near Flemington
I just might have to take a run up to Flemington. The closest Filipino restaurant to me in Cherry Hill does decent catering but their entrees sitting on the steam table always looks awful - dried out, unidentified and unappetizing and expensive, too.
King Wong in Medford NJ
I'll definitely give it a try. My husband loves Ming Garden at the Ellisburg Circle but I just think it's meh...I'm a sucker for good won ton soup that tastes home made like Joe's Peking Duck, my other favorite Chinese restaurant. Whenever I'm sick, I send my husband out for their won ton soup and it's so good I even serve it as part of my Christmas Eve Dinner meal.
Simple Elegant Salad for a Crowd
Bring it on! I'm loving all the replies so far and I especially appreciate the recipes. Sometimes I don't quite trust my palate so I'll use the original recipe and adjust from there.
Simple Elegant Salad for a Crowd
In the next two weeks, I'll need to bring salads to several parties (book club, birthday party and potluck.) I'm stumped for ideas that are easy for me to throw together yet looks really nice and appetizing. What's your favorite simple dressing and what are your favorite salads that people go wild over? Best lettuce mixes, cheese and other yummy things do you throw in?
Haddonfield's British Chip Shop
It is located on 146 Kings Highway East. Haddonfield 08033. It's just a few shops away from the Starbucks and CVS on the same side of the street and around the corner from the town gazebo.
Haddonfield's British Chip Shop
With my in-laws arriving next week from Ireland, I was craving some fish and chips. My husband and 5 year old daughter came with me on a Friday night around 6 p.m. Business seemed brisk, lots of take out and their outdoor tables were filled. Inside, we had only a few minutes to wait before we were seated at a table. Their menu is very focused on British food and warns that the food is made to order so we were prepared to wait. Although there is a children's menu, my daughter only wanted a bun to nibble on. My husband chose a burger and fries while I picked the small version of fish and chips. His burger was done exactly as he asked - nothing fancy but quite satisfactory. My fish was perfectly battered, light and crisp, our chips just a bit thinner than the chips I've gotten used in Ireland and England. The food was very fresh, hot and worth the wait. I happily doused my chips with vinegar and salt and dug in.
I only had one peeve - I had to flag the waitress down to ask for lemon and tartar sauce. Otherwise, service was fairly attentive. My husband chose the dessert with vanilla ice cream and one of his favorite chocolate bars, a Cadbury Flake.
All in all, I would definitely return and would love to try their brunch one weekend. The food was good although a tad pricey. Our bill ran about $40 for 2 sodas, the two entrees and a dessert. Cheaper than airfare to Dublin!
Seafood in South Jersey (Camden/Burlington Counties)
I haven't been to the Ritz Seafood in the past year but last year I was there twice and the food was very good as well as great service. Both times, the restaurant was full so I would recomment reservations.

Thanks for the list of new places to try. I can't believe some of the restaurants I grew up with are making a comeback - Athens Cafe was a favorite in high school as well as Spaghetti House so I'll be testing my older and wiser palate on them soon!
I Have the BEST Mom in the whole world! She made me some
I remember my twin sister and I were in our early 20s and both stricken with strep throat. We were living on our own for the first time and I remember moping around in our robes on the couch. Mom came over with a huge pot of her version of arroz caldo, a Filipino version of chicken rice soup. Incredibly soothing and cured our aches and pains. I try my own version now and again but it never seems to hold the flavor that my mom can put in her own soup.
Rec for graduation Lunch for 15 on a Sunday in Cherry Hill area?
Another chain recommendation: Iron Hill Brewery in Maple Shade, not far from Moorestown Mall. I've been there a few times and service was very good, even accommodating gluten-free diet and a spot more quiet due to one hearing impaired family member. At your early lunch, it shouldn't be terribly busy and parking would be easy to navigate.
Any decent pizza around Cherry Hill?
Vito's? Really? I must pass by that place thousands of times of the years and have never tried it - will have to give it a go one of these days.
My husband swears by King of Pizza and goes into withdrawal if he doesn't get it at least once a week. When my siblings visit from their respective homes in Lake Tahoe or Pensacola, I will often order a few pies slightly undercooked, and freeze the slices so they can bring home 1-2 pies each.
A tiny pizza place opened up two years ago on Kings Highway, between the bowling alley and the Cherry Hill Library in a strip mall called Kings Highway Pizza. Very similiar pizza to KOP, thin and crispy and I like their sauce.
Not far away is Forno's on Church Rd in Maple Shade. A little bit fancier pizza but usually very good. They are owned by the Lamberti group so their menu is an upgrade from the usual mom and pop pizza place.
My Medford friends all swear that Riviera Pizza is the best in the area so give that a try as well.
Do I want or need an electric griddle?
I see them all the time on sale but other than pancakes and eggs (bacon seems like it would splatter too much) - is there any other use for one? Or will it become one of the bulky items that becomes a dust catcher on my pantry shelf?
Your best banana recipes
Slice banana in half, drizzle with a bit of brown sugar or a schmear of Nutella, wrap with wonton wrappers and fry in an inch of vegetable oil until lightly browned and crisp on all sides.
Recipe using bottle of sweet chili sauce
Seconding the use of sweet chili as a glaze with chicken. It is also very good if you use 3 parts of your favorite BBQ sauce with 1 part of sweet chili sauce - with ribs, it's awesome.
