Visiting Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA

Hi all,

I am heading to your two great cities on a trip with a girlfriend in mid March for 2 nights each. We are looking for a variety of lunch and dinner spots. Definitely looking for a really nice place at least one night in each town, and otherwise we would love to try places that locals love or places that specialize in things we could never get up north. Also looking for local experiences.

In Charleston we would love a recommendation for a coastal seafood spot with nice views. We will have a car for that city. In Savannah we are staying at B&B in the Historic district, no car. What are the best local restaurants? Also any other tips we should know?

Finally, we are driving from Charleston to Savannah. Any great lunch spots on the way worth a small detour?

Thanks so much!

need an excellent spot for brunch in brooklyn

In Williamsburg, I had an amazing brunch last summer at Relish. More recently, a new place opened up, called the Rabbithole which has a good brunch everyday and the most delicious soups I have ever had.

Midtown Lunch

My friend and I both work in midtown and like to lunch a lot. I work on 50th and 3rd and he works on 37th and 6th. Looking for the "best quality lunch for an affordable price" restaurants in between those two locations. Totally sick and tired of the overpriced but low quality deli/buffet joints that plague this area, what is special around here?

Suggest your faves! All foods are good!

Best Mariscada on the Isle of Manhattan?

Dad's birthday is Friday and he loves his Mariscada. What are the best restaurants for Mariscada in Manhattan? Spanish, Brazilian, Italian or any other Latin American/European varieties are all welcome suggestions. Any sort of fish "soup/stew" variant is also acceptable.

We loved the mariscada they use to serve at Cabana Carioca before it closed, so a great brazilian place would also be nice to know as well.

Thanks!

would you?

When I go to Chinatown I usually go to a restaurant called Big Wong's or Big Wong King on Mott btn Baynard and Canal.

I always order the wonton soup (shrimp, pork and veggie filled crystal skin dumplings with some dark greens leafies, no noodles) with a side of roast pork - super delicious. If you are there before the evening (they usually run out) also order the sweet bread (just a small loaf of fried sweet dough). This combination is killer.

I have never tried anything else there, so I can't vouch for the rest of the food, but it is always full of local Chinatown residents which I think can be seen as a good sign. Although Big Wong's is a little grimey, you need to look past this as it is always full of people and inexpensive. To me this a quintessential Chinatown experience!

Broklyn Lager?

I've found Brooklyn lager in Denmark and Sweden and they say they ship to Japan as well. I think they have overcome the shipping issue...it's probably something else.

New York CH heading to San Fran for honeymoon. Recommendations?

Heading out to SF for my honeymoon next week. Looking for everyone's top 3 recommendations. We are real fans of fabulous foods for a fabulous price. (We are a young couple just out of grad school so we don't have the money for anything crazy, though we are willing to splurge a bit - honeymoon afterall!)

We are staying in the Union Square area, but are pretty adventurous and we would love to walk around neighborhoods and eat at places where locals would hang out, to get a real feel for a place. Recs for this? (Not just the typical touristy stuff.)

Also, what's the deal with the tenderloin? I keep hearing that it is a dangerous neighborhood, but the only info I can find is that there are a lot of pan-handlers. In NY panhandlers and homeless are often found in the most expensive neighborhoods because there is better food. So how dangerous is it exactly?

Thanks in advance.

Fine-Dining with Southern Influences?

I second Maroon's wholeheartedly. They serve a cross between Jamaican and Southern, and actually organize their menu according to those catagories, so you know what you're ordering. Great service too.

Red Cat, but not Red Cat

Looking for a place with a vibe and ambience like Red Cat, not pretentious but still elegant, with a similar type of New American food, but for lunch time.

Financial District or Upper East Side are more convinient locations but anywhere in Manhattan will do.

Any suggestions?
