The Alcove's Red Velvet cake: Thumbs Down I heard that The Alcove had amazing desserts, so I went to try their cakes. They were not good. I tried the lemon, peach, and red velvet, and it's basically a cake with no flavor covered in a Crisco sugar frosting. They were very disappointing and a total waist of calories. With that said I highly recommend Toast on 3rd st. for cake. The red velvet is amazing and is sold for $48 for the whole cake and around $5 for a slice, as apposed to The Alcove at $75 for the whole and about $6.50 a slice. If you like red velvet, head to Toast and forget The Alcove. |

I like tres leches cake and I think I have found the best. It's at El Floridita Restaurant on Fountain and Vine in Hollywood. It's this cool Cuban place. There food is nice and the cake is out of this world. I would stop and go in there just for a piece of cake, which runs about $6, but it's well worth it. If you know of any other bomb tres leches cakes around town please let me know. Happy eating.... |

At the stinking rose I had this lamb shank and it was totally over cooked. The place is ok, but not that great really. |

Another one of my favorites is ARA'S on melrose just east of La Brea. It's this middle eastern place and they have this delicious rice that's the best i've ever had. Also, their beef kabob is so satisfying. It's not in Hollywood but my favorite Ethiopian place is called MERKATO on fairfax just past San Vicente. Try their Zil Zil tibbs. |

Try Fred 62 at 1850 N. Vermont. It's a pretty chill atmosphere and the food is nice and not expensive. |
