Best Fried Zucchini and Fried Asparagus in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

I love it. They're not too heavy or greasy, and the flavor of the asparagus really comes through. It comes with ranch dipping sauce.

It depends on what you're in the mood for.

Nick's is higher-end (think Houston's) and has fried asparagus, but not fried zucchini.

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2015 -- HOT DOGS/SAUSAGES

Got this chili dog at a little burger spot called Shorty'z in Fullerton. Chili was heavy on the cinnamon and could have been hotter temperature-wise. The dog itself wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again.

Mac and Cheese

I'm not a huge fan of their food in general, but I really like the mac & cheese at Yard House.

Mac and Cheese

+1 on the 50/50 patty. Their all-beef burgers are much better. I broke down and tried the peanut butter & jealousy burger not too long ago (medium rare and added jalapenos). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Overrated Underrated and Just Right

Agree on Marche Moderne. I went for the first time recently and left feeling ripped off. I can't imagine that I built it up in my mind so much where I was that disappointed. I can go to Taco Maria or Playground and get outstanding food and service for so much less.

I had the Polish dog at Costco yesterday. It's a great value, and it satisfies enough that you're not tempted to endure the insipid lines for samples inside. I saw a line 15-20 people long(not exaggerating) yesterday... for bagel bites. Seriously?

I've had it at Nick's (San Clemente and Laguna locations). We get it whenever we go. I've never seen it anywhere else.

Jason's By The Circle, Orange

Ways & Means is reopening the new Pacific City development in Huntington Beach. I can't wait to get in there and try it.

Orange County dinner recommendation for tomorrow night

I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't gotten in there yet. I'll make sure to try it!

Any particular type of food?

In San Clemente, I've enjoyed Nick's, South of Nick's, Hapa J's, and Nomad's Canteen.

Beef plate rib source in OC?

I would call Gem Meats in Yorba Linda or Beef Palace in HB. I've never seen Plate ribs at either, but they may be able to order them for you. I've always had great service at both places.

Best 'Crinkle Cut Fries'? Crispy! Mmmm :~)

I don't always order fries at Langer's, but when I do, I order them well done.

Kidding aside, I wouldn't call them the best, but I think they're pretty good when cooked crispy. I'm not a crinkle cut aficionado, so my experience is pretty much limited to Langer's and Del Taco.

Most underrated restaurant in OC?

+2 on Fuoco.

Dog Haus in Fullerton.

Left: Another Night in Bangkok (spicy thai red currywurst, peanut sauce, asian slaw, crushed peanuts). I was surprised by this one. The sausage really had a nice red curry flavor, and the toppings were also really good. Very well balanced.

Right: Oldtown Dog (smoked bacon wrapped dog, caramelized onions, roasted jalapeƱos, chipotle mayo, cotija cheese). I was expecting something along the lines of a Tijuana street dog, and this was not it. I don't know where it came from but, to me, the dog had a clove-y taste to it that was out of place. Still, not too bad.

I was hoping to try their Tae Kwon Dog (bulgogi glaze, kimchi, fried
egg, korean chili powder), but it's only on their Santa Ana menu.

I'm sure Ill be back to try their other offerings.

Suntory Beer?

It's been a looong time (20+ years), but I'm almost positive that I used to buy it at the 99 Ranch in Rowland Heights.

In the Costa Mesa area, can anyone give a NC Hound a dinner rec?

You could definitely have done worse than Bandera. They're a solid option.

No, Shuck doesn't have cocktails, but ARC in the same complex does have a solid cocktail program. Check it out next time you're in town.

+1 on Shuck. We usually start there for a dozen (or two) and wine and head to one of the other restaurants close by for dinner. ARC would fit the bar and grill description. I would NOT recommend their tomahawk rib eye. Way over priced and a total disappointment flavor-wise. Their cocktails, burgers and bar food, however, are very good. Service has always been friendly when I've been in.

West LA & Santa Barbara

+1 on the Palace. It was recommended to me by a local years ago. I've been a number of times and never been disappointed.

Shouldn't Orange County have its own board?

Naugles

I grew up in the Inland Empire loving this place. Now, I only live a couple miles away from the new location, and I'm inclined to wait... maybe. They're in the soft opening stage right now and have a limited menu. On top of the long lines, they're still figuring out what they need product-wise to get them through the day. I have read in articles and heard from friends that they have made trips to restaurant supply stores in the middle of the day to be able to keep serving. I'm guessing (hoping) it won't take long to get things ironed out.

I love the passion that Christian Ziebarth has for what he's doing. He fought for the Naugles name in court and is delivering on his desire to bring it back. Nostalgia or not, I'm really looking forward to checking it out.

Get well soon!

Felafel in OC?

I have friends who've really enjoyed it at Chicken Maison, but I can never resist their spicy garlic chicken.

Blue Mediterranean on Jamboree & Bristol does it really well.

Panini cafe in Park Place (Jamboree & Michelson) has it, but I found theirs to be a bit dry when I had it.

Further north, I don't think you can go wrong with Oasis Food Cafe or D Vine in Brea. Olive Pit and OREA are also good options.

Korean bbq in OC?

RE: Shik Do Rak; I've only been lunch, and it's been awhile, so my memory could be faulty (wouldn't be the first time).

Give Da Rae a shot. The location is weird, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Korean bbq in OC?

I haven't spent time in Koreatown, so I don't have a great means of comparison, but Here's what I've enjoyed in OC:

Da Rae BBQ Restaurant in Fullerton (next to Honda Ya). No grills on the tables, but I've really enjoyed everything I've had there.

Shik Do Rak in Irvine has really good AYCE.

Gen (I've been to the Westminster location) has pretty good AYCE.

Mr. BBQ on State College just south of Chapman in Fullerton. Not great, but good AYCE.

I know that Buena Park has some options, but I haven't ventured over there.

What's your top 5 favorite places for lunch in OC?

Yes. Their cabeza tacos have been my favorite so far, and their tamales during the holidays were really good, too. I will have to get down to one of the other locations to try that torta cubana.
