Casual but nice / good lunch in Fullerton?

I would recommend Fuoco or Kentro.

Solvang

Go to Saarloos and Sons in Los Olivos and do a tasting. I am a wine club member there and never miss a chance to swing by when I'm in the area. They do a lot of blends and syrahs. Their wines are great and a great value.

They also scratch make mini cupcakes that you can purchase in a flight to pair with the wine tasting. Now I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but these things are amazing.

Frozen Pheasants in OC?

I'm assuming Gem Meats was a bust. Brees' Meats in Garden Grove offers game meat processing, but I'm not sure if they sell it.

A quick Google search brought these...

I hope this helps.

Meat Up BBQ - Placentia

I went on 10/30 and was unimpressed...

We had the fries with brisket and bleu cheese, the porchetta and the brisket. My son had a plain cheeseburger.

The brisket on the fries was tender and juicy, but lacked smoke. The brisket entree and the porchetta were both dry and lacked smoke. The porchetta had some fatty parts, but the whole thing seemed like it needed more time on the smoker.

The fireslaw was nothing to write home about, but the beans and greens were good.

The burger was actually the highlight food-wise. Great beefy flavor and cooked perfectly medium rare. I know that this was a soft opening, so I'll probably give them another shot on the bbq. I will definitely be back for the burgers and beers. The beer selection is great.

Gamebirds in OC.......?

I haven't been in awhile, but Gem Meats used to have some game meats in their freezer. I've also bought whole ducks there.

Jagerhaus is good if you're in the mood for German. It's on Ball Rd. at the 57.

If you're in the mood for upscale Mexican, there's Anepalco's Cafe in the Ayre's hotel on Chapman & State College.

If you want to go over the top, head to The RANCH for martinis and an amazing steak.

Where to go for good "jack of all trades"Japanese restaurant?

I used to go there for lunch at least a couple of times a month. RIP indeed.

There is a Sushi Koto on Brookhurst in Fountain Valley. I wonder if there's any relation.

I agree on all counts. It's a great addition to the area.

Kitakata: New Ramen in OC

Checked this out last week. The gyoza were fantastic. We didn't get the yuzu pepper paste but enjoyed making our own dipping sauce with what was on the table.

I had the chasu ramen. I loved the pork (and the amount of it) and the noodles. It seems that I enjoyed Santouka CM's broth just a little more, but it's been awhile since I've been there, so I think a return trip is in order so I can draw a better comparison. Still, this is place is great. I will definitely be going back.

Zetton is definitely a favorite, too.

Chapulines in North/Central OC

Can anyone please tell me if there are any markets in North or Central Orange County that sell these crispy critters? Thanks!

Pizza Dough?

+1 on this. I've bought dough from my favorite local pizza joints on several occasions. They have always been happy to do it.

Best lunch in Costa Mesa/Irvine/Santa Ana for under $10

Had the cabeza taco (center) along with the chorizo (bottom) and al pastor at Taqueria El Zamorano (not to be confused with nearby Zamora) in the former Taqueria 2 Guys location. All were excellent, but cabeza was the standout. They didn't have tripas today, but I'll definitely be going back. The al pastor was even better in my date's burrito. Corn tortillas are handmade.

Tacos were $2.50 each, and the burrito was $6.50. Horchata is also excellent, but will push you a little over the $10/meal mark.

South Coast Plaza Din Tai Fung Rates With International Counterparts

I haven't noticed a significant difference between the two, at least where dim sum is concerned. I don't have much experience with the rest of the menu.

Delivery to Anaheim hotel?

You can try Restaurants Express (https://www.restaurantsexpress.com). They deliver from a variety of restaurants. Nothing earth shattering on the quality of the restaurants, but it will give you some choices.

I'm with you on Taqueria 2 Guys. I'm also a regular at Zamora (their chilaquiles and machaca are excellent), but you're right about their tacos. They're great, but too big to have more than two.

My recollection of Sahuayo Primo is that the tacos are the smaller "street" sized tacos, and they're awesome. Definitely worth a try. Bradbury's post reminded me that I haven't been there in waaaay too long.

Should Orange County have their own board?

I'm in OC (I know you're all absolutely floored by that revelation), and I've had that thought, too. BUT, I have really come to enjoy posts from the LA posters, and I get to LA just enough to stay interested in those posts.

Also, I don't think that there are enough postings about OC to warrant having its own board. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that I have gone days at times without seeing a post about OC.

What I've come to do instead is keep an eye out for posts by (in no particular order, and apologies for any omissions) Porthos, josephnl, js76wisco, JAB, OCAnn, OCEllen, etc.

So chalk up a no-vote from an OC poster.

La Restaurants with Oxtail

I'll chime in for OC on this. Bella Cuba in Santa Ana (across from South Coast Plaza) has a great oxtail dish.

L.A. Co-Dishes of the Month, July 2014: FRIED CHICKEN (and Chicken Fried) and FROZEN DAIRY-BASED DESSERT PRODUCTS

Buttermilk Fried Chicken at Nick's Laguna Beach on Sunday. As much as I love their other offerings (fish sandwich, short rib tacos and fried asparagus are all great), this one fell short. Chicken was a little dry. Batter wasn't bad, but nothing special; crispy and held onto the chicken well. The biscuit and potatoes were fine, but a bit much on the carbs. The consistency of the gravy was okay, if a little thin, but the flavor was unremarkable. I will go back to Nick's, but not for this. The version at Reunion Kitchen in Anaheim Hills (went a couple of months ago but didn't make it for DotM) blows this out of the water.

WUM was my go-to for a quick fix when they opened. Not great, but good enough. Kopan Ramen in downtown Fullerton is better, but still falls short of places in CM.

Orange County: your list of current top steak houses?

Not at all on the restaurant side. It's completely separate from the saloon, and I don't recall even being able to hear music from the saloon in the restaurant. The atmosphere is really comfortable, very similar to Houston's.

While I love a good beer (and their selection does suck), their wine cellar is top notch, and their master sommelier, Michael Jordan, is great at giving guidance on wine selection without being condescending or stuffy. As such, I usually go for a martini before dinner and wine with that amazing steak.
