6 a.m. bars in L.A . What's left ?

There are a bunch. A quick Yelp search will get you started. You can filter by what time they open.

Super Pollo in CM better than Zankou...

+1 on Chicken Maison. Their spicy garlic chicken is outstanding.

They do. I haven't been in a few years, but I love the interior of the place. It's a real throwback, in a good way.

What are some over-rated L.A. restaurants to you? Why, specifically? Only one each!

Sacrebleu!

Totally agree with this. I like In-N-Out's burgers. A lot. Though I agree that they are over-hyped, I can't think of a better burger at that price point. Their fries, not so much. They do not double fry, and that is the problem.

Oh, and hms1952, Thomas Keller uses frozen french fries, so you might as well call out the James Beard Foundation and Michelin for their reviews, too.

Frozen fries are blanched at the factory and then frozen. A quick drop in the fryer gives them that second fry, so yes, I prefer those to fresh cut, once-fried taters.

I only went once when I was a teenager. It was the first time I had ever had linguine with clams.

You can still sit at a Little Joe's booth/table at the Continental Room in Fullerton...

now that it's back, where are the best foie gras dishes?

Maybe redundant, but had this gem last night at Pueblo in Costa Mesa. Smoked duck and foie over toasted baguette with cherry compote (I think it was compote; there was wine involved). It wasn't on the menu. It wasnt a special. I commented on how much I loved their preparation last time I was in, and they brought this out.

This place is one of our go-to dinner date destinations, with or without the foie. They are awesome. Crispy pork ribs last night were insane.

What's new & good in Huntington Beach or nearby?

Just thought of a couple more:

Muelle Peruvian Cantina - for Peruvian behind Bella Terra. I have not been there, but have been to the owner's prior location (Renzo's in Irvine);
Solita Tacos & Margaritas - upscale Mexican in Bella Terra;
Olive Pit - for Mediterranean. I haven't been here, but their Brea location is great.

What's new & good in Huntington Beach or nearby?

In no particular order:

Da Hawaiian - get their chili peppa chicken;
The Corner - yes, it's got more of a bar/lounge feel, but the food I've had there (mostly small plates) has been really good;
Slaters 50/50 - for burgers;
Slapfish;
Ritter's Steam Kettle Cooking - for gumbo and pan roasts;
El Porton Colombiano - I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard really good things about it;
Cucina Alessa - not new, but still worth a mention for great Italian;
Red Table - gastropub grub. I haven't been in about a year, but it was really good the last time I was in.

Also, not in HB, but worth a short drive to the OC Mix are:

Pueblo - amazing tapas/small plates;
Taco Maria - still working on getting in here myself, but regarded by many here as one of the best restaurants in OC;
ARC - great food in a nice space.

L.A. Dish of the Month, February 2015 -- BURGERS

Cheeseburger at Brian's Beer & Billiards in Fullerton. Nothing earth shattering, but a really good bar burger. 1/3 lb. patty cooked to order with a good, beefy flavor. The owner also own's Big B's BBQ next door, and there's a pass-through window. Their "BBQ" is far from authentic, but I do like their burger.

Mr. Katsu - Fullerton

I've been meaning to try this. Thanks for the reminder.

I went for lunch today and also had the original. I agree with your assessment. This is a really good, well balanced sandwich. Caveat for those with salt sensitivity: the katsu sauce is salty and may be too much for some. I thought it was great.

They were giving three potato croquettes with sandwiches today. I got one plane and two curry croquettes. The plain ones didn't knock me out, but the curry ones were awesome.

Service was friendly and great. The guy behind the register (the owner, I think) was engaging and welcomed feedback. I will definitely be going back.

L.A. Dish of the Month, February 2015 -- BURGERS

Went to Teddy's Bigger Burger in Fullerton tonight. Great burgers cooked to order (they'll do medium rare or even rare). I've been about 4-5 times since it opened a few months ago, and we love it. My 12-y/o son is a burger aficionado (I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree), and this is his current favorite. Toppings are fresh, and there are plenty to choose from. I went with their original tonight (cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles and their sauce). Their secret sauce is kind of like a honey mustard, but not quite. It's sweet, but I think it really works well with the burger. I've also had their mushroom Swiss burger. Really messy in a good way. It's definitely worth a try if you're in the area. Sorry, but no pic.

Double cheeseburger from PK Burgers in Brea. Nothing fancy, just a good, solid burger.

I'm a strange guy. You have no idea...

We all had a vote. I cast mine. The vote was close. If you disagreed with my logic, you could have cast your own. Strange that you didn't.

Slater's 50/50 was supposed to have one as their burger of the month for January. I never made it in to find out.

Good sopes South of Tustin?

I like the fish tacos at Hole Mole, too. Not the best I've had, but a great option for OC.

Not that far south, but try the sopes at Taqueria Zamora in Santa Ana. I've had them there and really enjoyed them.

now that it's back, where are the best foie gras dishes?

I had an impromptu date night on Saturday. We headed to Pueblo in Costa Mesa. Everything we had was amazing, but one of their specials was medallions of foie over toasted baguette topped with a sour cherry compote and mixed greens. It was sublime. It was my lovely dining companion's first experience with foie, and to say she loved it would be an understatement.

I was told that quantities are limited.
