Lucali's 2 aka Giuseppina's

Anyone know if this place is ever going to open in park slope? It was supposed to open a while ago but haven't heard anything for months now.

Bourdain and Ozersky owe me 26 bucks

Jeff_pdx- I think you should apologize for loving Carmine's.

All kidding aside, I didn't think the BLB quite lived up to the hype either. I ordered it medium, as you did, and I have no complaints about how they cooked it at all. But it's really hard for me to say it was life changing or "best burger ever" or things like that. It was great- but different. The funkiness of the dry aged beef is probably the reason for it.
Like I said, I thought it was really good but it's probably not what people expect to taste in a burger so a lot of people might not love it.

Scarpetta

Kelea- that sounds great! I'm going tomorrow for the anniversary menu. Out of curiousity (and anticipation), what were the desserts? Also, which entree choice of the three did you go with? This is my first time there so really looking forward to it.

Maialino e molto simpatico!

Great review! I feel exactly the same way about this place, I thought everything was phenomenal. Probably ranks up there in my top 3 favorite restaurants, everything considered.

CUT- Pre Theater Menu

Going to be in LV in early April and would like to try CUT but can't really spend a ton of money on just one meal. The Pre Theater menu is $75 pp, which is doable for us; the question I have is if going with this menu is a good way to experience CUT or am I selling myself short by going the cheaper route. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Minetta Tavern- what else besides the BL Burger?

Going to Minetta tonight and while I will certainly be getting the black label burger, my girlfriend wants something else. Any suggestions on which entrees to go with? The only one that is out (unfortunately) is the cote de boeuf since it is for 2. I have heard a lot of different opinions on the New York strip- from "it's phenomenal" to "it's horrible". She likes just about everything so no real restrictions otherwise.

Shopsin's question

bob- although I generally would agree with you about places that treat customers like that, I still have to give this place one chance. I've heard way too many good things about the food so I have to try it; if I do get the attitude, then I won't be back.

Shopsin's question

Quick question regarding Shopsin's- I will be in Manhattan on Tuesday morning for business purposes and want to try Shopsin's (been wanting to for a long, long time but never got around to it). I will be wearing a suit- is this going to be a problem with them?

Obviously I have heard of them kicking people out for lots of random stuff and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't like people in suits so does anyone have an idea about what to expect in regards to this rather ridiculous question?

Luzzo's Westbury

I also tried Luzzo's earlier in the week and was happy with the experience overall. The pizza was definitely solid- I would say better than Grimaldi's but not in the class of Lucali's or Motorino (both in Brooklyn). The place looks nice and the service was very good but we were there for lunch and the place was mostly empty.

I have to disagree about the pizza at Zero Otto Nove, which I thought was very good. I'd probably say it was probably even with Luzzo's as far as taste.

The one thing I didn't like about Luzzo's was the price- these pizzas are pretty damn expensive, especially when compared to some of the wood-burning places in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Nassau Openings

Wow really? Luzzo's??? Seems pretty crazy considering its a small place in Manhattan (although I think their pizza is excellent). I can't see it working in such a large space as the old Macaroni Grill spot.

Help me narrow down my pizza choices...

I always recommend Motorino. IMO, it's by far the best pizza place in NY for neapolitan style pizza. In fact, I remember the first time I had it, I thought to myself "This is what I expected Una Pizza Napoletana to taste like". UPN didn't impress me at all- just very bland taste to me.

Babbo Pastas: Goose Liver Ravioli and _____?

My opinions on Babbo seem to differ from the concensus- I wasn't that blown away with the beef cheek ravioli. It is definitely good but I would probably go with the mint love letters.

Also, although the pork chop gets a lot of love here (and I haven't had it so I'm not saying I'm against it), I did have the lamb chop and it was excellent, one of the best I've ever had. So if you are a lamb guy, stick with that.

Yankee Stadium Food Review

Had the Johnny Rocket single burger last night- it was pure crap. The burger was dry as hell, there was some weak slices of tomato and the cheese wasn't even melted on the burger. What the hell is that for $9???

The hot chocolate was excellent, on a side note.

I need Giant Pocky!

They definitely have the giant pack at the Korean market in Plainview on South Oyster Bay Road

Lobel's at Yankee Stadium

I second the Lobel's sandwich being awesome- had it today and yea, it ain't cheap but definitely worth it. The meat was extremely tender and juicy (the au jus helps a lot) and the bread was also really nice.

Cacio e Vino,Arturos or Pala for dinner

Cacio e vino is very good! Can't speak about the other two, haven't been

After visiting the Yankees new home

Thanks for the tip! Always good to have authentic food with normal prices before/after a game

After visiting the Yankees new home

I was there yesterday as well. While they do have a decent amount of different food, it doesn't look like it will be able to match Citi Field's options. Regardless, huge improvement from the old stadium in both quality and selection of food. I had a Nathan's hot dog (good as expected) $6, a pulled pork sandwich from Brother Jimmy's $10 (this wasn't that great, the meat was dry and bland, even after putting on some BBQ sauce), the garlic fries, can't remember the price (a LOT of garlic, I was still tasting it hours later, but not bad), and finally chicken fingers $7.50 (pretty good but the ones in the old stadium were better).

8 people tomorrow night... any ideas?

thanks for all the suggestions! will try to see whats available

8 people tomorrow night... any ideas?

I originally had a res. for 6 at Trattoria L'Incontro in Astoria but had to change it to 8 when I was rudely told they couldn't do that.... so now we are stuck. Any ideas where we can go in Manhattan for 8- probably want to stick with Italian. Btw, we are 4 couples in our mid to late 20's. Thank for any help!

Molto Mario

Hahah I believe you canned and I'm actually reading that book right now, pretty good stuff. I admit I'm pretty late as far as being a fan of Mario but I'm trying to catch up now through various ways...

Molto Mario

I dont think I get that... Damn! Thanks though

Molto Mario

So I've only seen 1 episode of this show even though I am a fan of Batali's restaurants.... Since I missed it while it was still on tv, I would love to somehow see what I missed; anyone know where to get past episodes? Do they have reruns still playing? I tried searching the web and came up empty handed for the most part. I wish they would put out a dvd series, I would be all over it

Fianci's Paninoteca (Garden City,NY)

Stopped by there for lunch today and got an excellent panino. It had artichokes, roasted peppers, eggplant, and some type of cheese. Really simple but soooo good- the ingredients all tasted fresh and high quality. I guess I'm a panini freak, because between this place now and La Bottega, I almost can't eat anything else for lunch anymore. Check these places out if you're in the Garden City area
