New Richmond BBQ question...
as a followup...have addressed these places ,with my brother who lives in Richmond, in advance of my visit. Just got this review today....
Grabbed a bbq sandwich at CD's yesterday ...
Located on the "far west end" (that's what the area is referred to) of Richmond, about 15-20 highway mins from downtown.
Sits just off of Broad Street (Richmond's historic main drag).
Not a restaurant. It's a trailer, sort of what you'd find at the county fair type of thing. But exceptionally nice. Trailer is permanently anchored and is remarkably clean, inside and out. Outside picnic table type seating under a tin open air shelter.
Wood is stacked perfectly in front of 3-4 bbq's, outside.
Been around apparently for 40 years or so ... wood smoked bbq.
Wonderful grandma type working the trailer. Really nice lady who I spend better part of 10mins chatting with.
BBQ was real tasty. Definitely had that "wood smoked" tang to it which I found to be welcomingly different from other bbq that I'm used to. Prices not a problem.
Would surely go back again and take a closer look at the menu to see what other offerings are available.
New Richmond BBQ question...
Now before you direct me to old posts about Richmond BBQ, I've already read them.
Visiting from TX for a couple of days so I'm not interested in Alamo or Buz and Ned's.
I'm interested in those little places out side of town...like the place you drive 20 miles for and it's the guy that has a smoker out back of his local mini-mart. Or where you go and turn right on the road where the "Marshall place was before it burned down 35 years ago"..the places your really have to work to find. Does anyone have any suggestions along those lines??
thanks in advance!!
Oysters DFW
Apalachicola's were great in the hey-day...rated right up there with those juicy LA oysters.
But then again...you could get a bushel for about $15.00!!
Jackson MS to Mobile AL on 49/98
as a followup....just finished the round trip and thought I'd share.....Friday afternoon stopped at Brickpit in Mobile...2 passengers had the pulled pork and I the ribs. The pulled pork was pretty darn good and a very tasty sauce. Ribs were ordered without sauce, as I feel Q should stand its own merits... chewy on the thin ends but once you got to the thicker pieces VERY tender! Tried with the sauce and that added a very nice touch. Beans were ok but could have been a little smokier with some meat chunks added. As we left, we saw that Hattiesburg was about 2 hours away and I asked if anyone was willing to try some more Q and one replied.."I'm up to the challange!" Off we went to Leatha's hoping to just grab a pork sandwich after having a fairly large lunch. That didn't happen. Full meals only. We all ordered pulled pork and the waitress asked me why I didn't want the ribs. I explained I just had ribs and was pretty full still. She said I HAD to try it and if I'd order a "combo" of 1/2 each, I could take one bite of the ribs and, if not satisfied, she would replace it with the pulled pork. A completely different experience. Went to try a rib and the bone pulled out clean. The other travelers just gasped when they tried the pulled pork. Super sweet which wasn't really that bad! granted it's kinda greasy but very nice. We preferred the Mississippi Q over the 'Bama. Breakfast the next morning was for the Holy Grail of fried chicken! Old Country Store in Lorman. Mr D didn't disappoint! Great service staff and he visited for quite some time when he found out we were from Florida has he is originally from Ft Pierce and settled there. He entertained the masses that showed up and everyone left stuffed. My southern daughter even tried his greens..a first for her. Both riders had the blackberry cobbler and it was heaven in a bowl. Now I have to pull out some of the extra chicken we brought to Texas for lunch!
Jackson MS to Mobile AL on 49/98
that's the only reason TO go to Lorman! It's been a little over 2 yrs since I was there. Gotta get my fix.....
Jackson MS to Mobile AL on 49/98
will be traveling to FL from Ft Worth next week and midpoint is Hattisburg MS.
Any suggestions on good eats on 49/98? Oh just an FYI....on the return trip, I'll be diverting over to Lorman MS then up to Vicksburg.
Natchez Trace, Tupelo, Jackson suggestions
I concur!! Heading to FL next week from Ft Worth and plan on stopping in to see Mr D!!
Grapevine / Southlake/ Midcities Area- Need a recommendation

HOLIDAY "CATERING" SUGGESTIONS.....
We normally have a pot-luck style department Thanksgiving meal but several people would prefer just dontating money and have something "catered". Now not really coming in and serving, but preparing the dishes for pickup would be sufficient. We work the in Irving area. Are there any suggestions on possible places that perform this service at a reasonable price per person??
We figure about 25-35 people would be participating.
Thanks in advance
ONIONBURGERS
A co-worker was telling me about onionburgers around the Oklahoma City area. After reading about the supposed history of them, can anyone tell me if there is any place in the metroplex that makes an authentic one?
Roanoke steak reccommendations....
good point.....I've heard there are some good places right on 377 and the immediate area around the new restaurant area that serve a great steak..plain and simple...nothing fancy...just good food...does that make it easier?
Roanoke steak reccommendations....
are any of those steak places in Roanoke worth taking a guest ??
I'm looking for a butcher shop / meat market (not a grocer or restaurant).
wow!! Something new?? Thanks for the info! Gotta go swing by this weekend.
Peanut Patch Boiled Peanuts
If you're near Keller, there's a little hardware/farm supply store I believe I saw they had that brand on their shelf
EMERIL'S-CITY WALK
Went there when they first opened and was reasonably impressed.
I know it's considered a tourist trap, but I'm in Ft Worth now and planning on visiting.
Loved the fried calamari! Can anyone advise how it rates now? Oh and I'm wondering on this place becasue we'll be at IOA across the park.
Fort Worth - special occasion
See...and my wife and I loved Mercury Chop House but for some reason people just never mention it
La Playa- FW
Sister coming into town from Fl...want's"real mexican". I don't do mexican but will try it for her sake. Have been reading about Joe T's (it's off the list). What about La Playa?? Yea or nay??

Pepper Mill Recommendation Please
Finally broke down and got the Unicorn Magnum. Was tired of the manual with the little round ball on the top that would fall and roll all over the kitchen (lucky to have found it) or my electric that would just start grinding by itself. This Magnum is great and even the wife likes it!
Louisiana foods
I've had to resort to having cracklins shipped in. They're up to $12.95/lb this year!!
That's more expensive than andouille!! But they are good!
Best Crab Cakes in FTW?
Cool River Cafe in Irving!
Not cheap but boy are they great!

BREAKFAST-N. FT WORTH/SOUTHLAKE/KELLER
Any suggestions for the best "local" place for breakfast (no IHP, Wafflehouse, etc).
Aldi
Even with all the advanced publicity concerning their operations, people still complain about the "quarter issue" and most stores today have their own reusable bags. Aldi is definately NOT a major grocery. We stop in to get basics that we have tried and like especially for their prices! There are certain items we will never try again. Milk at $1.79 a gallon cant be beat. I can't tell the difference between a premium cow and a generic cow anyways!
Where should I eat along my moving route?
If you're coming down I35 into Ft Worth, check this board for Posts on Roanoke TX. Its a litttle town just outside FW and has some great food joints
Where should I eat along my moving route?
Fine.....Old Country Store...Lorman MS...Google it...I drove from Ft Worth to that place last summer JUST for the chicken!! I'd do it again. Then you can head down to the coast. I take your route into Florida about once a year. Love me a great roadtrip!!
Where should I eat along my moving route?
Personally, I would have told you to go through N. louisiana into Mississippi for some killer fried chicken in Lorman!
