Seafood purist: Best salmon or oysters in Cannon Beach area?
We are staying in Cannon Beach for two nights and would appreciate recommendations for dinner including simple grilled or cedar-planked salmon as well as fresh oysters in the Cannon Beach/Manzanita/Seaside area. We have eaten in the Ecola fish market and loved the Dungeness crab and steamed clams, but we were hoping to eat a great salmon while we were in the area.
Dinner at Mombar Worth a Trip
Three of us ventured from Manhattan to Astoria for dinner at Mombar at my son's suggestion. The host Mustapha couldn't have been more welcoming, and the mosaic "outsider art" decor is worth a trip by itself. Wine and beer were available. It was not crowded at 8pm on a Saturday but it did fill up later. There were a number of specials available including several seafood dishes.
He put down a plate of delicious flaky bread to start (needed a refill on that). We had a mixed appetizer plate of three dips with pita, including hummus, foul and baba gannoush. The eggplant was the best I've had anywhere. We also had sauteed lemony fresh artichoke hearts that were fantastic. For main courses we had a lamb tagine with couscous, steak with rice and stewed vegetables (like the tagine), and a salmon baked in phyllo with vegetables, which was outstanding. Dinner for three including dessert and beer was about $120. We will definitely be returning.

Upscale, quiet dinner for grandma's 80th birthday between 20s and Tribeca?
Gramercy Tavern is fabulous but not sure it will cost that much less than Daniel. For a similar but slightly less pricey experience, you might try Braeburn in the West Village at Perry and Greenwich St. It is quiet enough for Grandma's birthday with a creative but not over-the-top take on American food. We went there for Mother's day brunch last year and it was really lovely.

Anything in Poconos near Union Dale/Carbondale?
It's such a beautiful area, it's a shame that there aren't more places to eat. When we went up there last summer we ate at (and stayed at) Stone Bridge Inn twice and once at Candlelight Inn, both in Union Dale. Although the atmosphere at Stone Bridge Inn was nice, the food and service were mediocre at best and the wine list leans toward a supermarket wine selection. I really don't like a place with overly complicated dishes for the sake of being "fancy." Candlelight Inn was one step above a diner, but it is a better choice in a way. Our innkeeper recommended Bluestone but it was too much of a drive for us at the time. We will be visiting the area again this summer and I hope to find something better. We will definitely try Villa Como and Bluestone Inn this summer, even though it's a long way to go for dinner on dark mountain roads.

Anything in Poconos near Union Dale/Carbondale?
We will be spending a couple of weekends near our son's camp in Orson, PA, staying in Union Dale near Elk Mountain. Searches on this site and others have not turned up any appealing choices for dinner. Surely there must be someplace for a good moderate to expensive dinner in that area. Any suggestions?
