McCrady's, Fig and ?? (Charleston)
I had the trotters and testa last thursday along with the suckling pig , clearly I have no issue with eating so much pig in one sitting...lol. everything really was exceptional. we also had the roasted beets and my SO had the steak with arugula and the lamb neck agnolotti. it was one of those meals where the freshness and purity of the meat and vegetables makes you take a minute and say "yes, this is what these things do and should taste like" :)
Restaurant Alba, who is the idiot
I agree with you, I think you were f----ed on. Who are they to decide which glasses were appropriate to use for the wine that your party brought in? Just because it wasn't from their list does not mean it didn't have a great rating or it wasn't from a respected vinyard and quite frankly that should not matter anyway. If you enjoy drinking it, it deserves the same resepect (for the lack of a better term) as those that they offer. We almost exclusively bring our own bottle (s) and one of two things inevitably happen, either they praise our selection or they admit they never heard of the label (usually a private one). When the latter happens they seem to be at least curious of our selection. I consider what happened to you a slap in the face and enough to warrant me not going back.
Oleana review
Our dinner here last week was incredible and we thought the service and our waiter were equally on par. The Deviled Eggs with tuna and black olives were one of the highlights, something so simple but each ingredient came through in layers when eaten. The Buttered Hummus w/ basturma & tomato could not have been creamier and easily the best hummus I've had to date. The Sinach Falafel served with tahini yogurt, beets and a wrap for me was one of those things I could eat eat everyday for a long time before getting tired of it :) The Quail with baharat spice, sunchokes and roasted grapes was another great dish. The quail was tender and the amount of spice was perfect. The Lamb with turkish spices, greens with yogurt, cucumber and peas tasted more like refined gyro meat done perfectly med rare. The almond cremolata was just about to be ordered until I changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the nougat glace with crepes and an orange blosssom butter...very good but I would try something else next time.
Restaurants everyone loves--except you
Amada - ordered five things on Sunday not one thing was worth all the hype. Actually ,when we finished our meal we went to Fish for the third time and had another great meal.
Osteria - was there last night and while both of our pastas were" good "(SO had the chicken liver & I had the nights special, pigs feet with parmesan) it was the copious amount of oil that sat on the bottom of my dish and the amount of salt that ruined it for us, i mean... it was really bad.
Thursday night dinner in/around Napa
I agree with you openhelix, we weren't impressed with Bottega either. It's been a while but we still mention every now and again what an average meal we had.

saporissimo in boca raton
I"m so glad you had a good experience - this is my favorite place in Boca. I'm beyond frustration with the IMHO "just good" restaurants up here, I've leveled into an acquired acceptance. The owner, is a riot a real sweet guy and the food is always consistent. I've had many of their wild game dishes as well as their pasta and it's been wonderful everytime. They have a chocolate torte that is incredible and I am nearly impossible to please when it comes to my chocolate, not many "outside" chocolate desserts are ever up to my standards.... I know, I know, total chocolate snob :)
Has anyone tried Solita?
We've been there twice and haven't been disappointed yet. Both times we have gone fairly early and it was mostly empty which was nice because we have been so over the Martorano deal. Anyways about the food - The meatballs are excellent served with ricotta and a little bit of salad, basically same prep as Martorano. The Bronzino was really fresh and has a lot flavor with a huge amount of parsley, artichokes and tomatos with some balsamic and olive oil HOWEVER they don't filet the fish for you - which is a little daunting.
The pasta with beef short rib ragu was outstanding but was no longer available our second visit. Veal Sorrentino - eggplant, prosciutto and mozzarella and basil excellent , done perfectly. The grilled pork chop with the red onion and sweet & sour fennel was one of the best grilled pork chops I have had in a while, really juicy and a ton of flavor. If you like brussel sprouts these are a must - roasted with some lemon and chili glaze on top of some kale which I think was roasted as well ( um...bottle of red anyone?) I wouldn't get the cauliflower gratin again - first of all it isn't a gratin, secondly it was very bland , it's basically cauliflower with a very thin cheese sauce in a small ramekin. The Shrimp Brandy was OK - poached tiger shrimp with celery root and arugula .
The third time isn't the charm ... need help with a muy important meal
I agree with Brix and it's location being a little far out but I'm not certain I would take someone with such a knowledge or appreciation for food there, just based on my experiences there. We were there in December and sadly the best thing we ate were the pickled beets with blue cheese. The chicken with spinach and the shrimp salad sandwich were so bland however the duck sausage pizza was much better but still not great. Our lunch at Chez Panisse was much better. Roasted squid with chickpeas, white beans, spinach and tomato with cumin flatbread and the Dungeness crab salad with frisee were excellent.
Foodie Anniversary in Hudson Valley
We ate at DA/BA in August and had a wonderful meal. Our intention was to go there for a an appetizer just to try it out before going over to Swoon for dinner but stayed because it was so good. We had several of their dishes and nothing disappointed.
Anyone else having problems with Saveur subscription?
My last two issues were 2 1/2 wks late and although I sent an e mail I never got a response.
Le Clos de la Violette
I haven't been there in a couple of years however our meal was fabulous. As posted before the foie gras and the pigeon were outstanding.
Searching for Culinary Adventure in Tuscany
If money isn't a concern go to Lorenzos! We were in Italy for a few wks in February and drove to Forte just for this restaurant and left very happy. We didn't have a reservation and it was very near the time they close the kitchen after lunch however we were given some champagne while a table became available. Lorenzo was there and he was the one who made the suggestions on both the wine and food.
Best way to let someone know they have food in their teeth?
That was in a scene from the movie When Harry Met Sally. They're in Harry's apartment rolling out a rug discussing their recent dates after getting back into the game and that is what she described her date doing.
Auto Grill, Good place to meet and eat?
The robiola, arugula & prosciutto on toasted ciabatta is incredible!
Peanut Butter -- how do you eat it (and on what kinds of different foods)?
Love P.B!! But NEVER in the form of dessert, just give me the freshly ground roasted stuff from the market. Here are my picks:Of course by the spoon, sometimes with a little cinnamon & agave nectar
Egg,cheese& P.B on whole wheat
Slices of pear,P.B,cinnamon & honey on whole wheat
Apple slices with P.B and some sea salt
Stacking dishes, WTF?
What's the price? Who's paying? It's not about OCD, it's just simply about etiquette.
Stacking dishes, WTF?
Hey Cay, by the way you wrote your response, I get a distinct feeling this is as blood boiling for you as it is for me..LOL!
Stacking dishes, WTF?
Is it just me or does anyone else think that stacking your dish at the table while dining is in poor taste? I have witnessed this a couple of times...someone is finished with their course and they will stack the dishes they have used after they are done...drives me insane!
1st Visit to Gary Danko (got tips?)
I agree with you, i wasn't impressed with them either.
It's my lucky year ! Yacht chef to be
Congratulations!! My guy has a 110ft but we have never used a chef, we have always done the cooking ourselves. I hope the owners will appreciate all the hard work that will be required. Congratulations again, hope all goes well!
Reims: Les Crayeres?
We spent about $850....worth every penny, best meal I have ever eaten.
Upscale restaurants in Pittsburgh?
Hey Jessie B, Bona Terra - no question. Don't pay much attention to the Pittsburgh list, there are only handful of places they mention that are worth going to but that is it. Every year I say the same thing..."people do not know what good food is" - you must call for a reservation early for Bona Terra. If you like foie gras let them know when making reservation because they will make sure they have it on that night.
Recs for St. John
Hi everyone....We are in London for one day/night before we fly into Italy and will be having lunch at St. John this afternoon, was wondering about any recent real stand outs that shouldn't be missed...Thanks

curious: what site were you referring to? Bostons or Turquoise? I thought it was Turquoise...but I just noticed it was reply to someone else, i think.

I agree about the website, probably shouldn't have sent it. It doesn't give a good representation...but if you change your mind at least you know it's there..it really is good. Good Luck finding something!
