Palm springs to LAX, Sunday night

Thanks for the chow-love! We ended up at MB post. There were 5 of us, so it was perfect to share a lot of smaller plates. Loved the bacon cheddar biscuits, duck prosciutto, grilled shrimp. My only gripe would be the sound level. Will try Love and Salt next time I'm in the area. Thanks again!

Palm springs to LAX, Sunday night

Will be in town this weekend for Indian Wells tennis tournament in Palm Springs. Flying out of LAX on the red eye. Looking for something nearish the airport. Flight is not util 1am, so can deal with traffic. Interested in casual farm-to-table, steakhouse, or Italian. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

DC weekend - Italian + ?

Hi All. I'm coming to DC with a girlfriend for the weekend. She'd like to eat Italian - I haven't seen much on the board recently. I looked at the menus of Siroc, Tosca, Al Tiramisu. Looking for homemade pastas. Also looking for farm to table type of place and wine bars. We're staying at the Ritz. No price limits. I've been to Obelisk and Central Michel Richard before (loved both) and am looking to try something new. Thanks for your help.

Ideas for a gathering of 50-75

Would appreciate some recs for a gathering of 50-75 people -- drinks and appetizers/buffet style cocktail hour(s). Trying to keep expenses under $4000. Preferably within Mpls or StP proper. Crowd is youngish (30-somethings).

Solo dining

A multitude of thanks for all the chow-love from Philly! I ended up at Barbuzzo (food ok, ambiance great), Zahav (amazing, but tragic that I was dining alone and couldn't try more dishes), and Vernick (great food, great ambiance). Am looking forward to my neck trip back!

Solo dining

Holiday Inn Express on Walnut. I'm taking a course that is being held there. Wouldn't have been my first choice.

Solo dining

Hi all, I could use a little help...
I'll be in Philly for 3 days next week, staying midtown. I won't have a car, so something within walking distance is preferred (up to a mile), but this is not a deal breaker. No limits on $ or cuisine type. Nothing too fancy (i.e., would want to wear jeans). Thanks!

Michael's Genuine vs. The Dutch?

One night in Miami - looking for good food in a not too stuffy atmosphere. Would like a place that isn't so noisy that I'm shouting across the table. My companion doesn't like seafood. Which would you vote for?

New Year's Eve in Florence

Hello All -
I'll be in Florence for New Year's Eve. Looking for some recommendations for classic Italian, quiet and romantic. Nothing formal, no budget limit; would like to be able to make reservations online if possible.
Thanks for your help!

The Buttered Tin

I had the huevos rancheros benedict last week and one of my eggs was over-done also. The second one one the plate was passable. My boyfriend had the same dish and both his eggs were cooked perfectly.

The cupcakes are moist and flavorful. The frosting is a giant dollop on top, which can make it hard to eat -- would be better spread out over the entire cupcake.

Lisbon - Ramiro question

Will be coming to Lisbon this summer and have heard a lot of positives about Ramiro. Unfortunately my traveling partner does not eat seafood. Do they have non-seafood options on the menu? Thanks for your help.

Dinner close to Teardrop?

Will be coming to PDX in Mid-Oct. Would love to have a few starting cocktails at Teardrop and am looking for something within walking distance for dinner. Would prefer farm-to-table type of place, avoiding seafood. Walking distance of up to a mile is ok. Thanks!

lactose free yogurt

Hi All, can you keep an eye out for any groceries that are selling dairy based, lactose free yogurt? (St Paul side, especially). Apparently Yoplait, Lactaid , and Green Valley Organics are now making it. Thanks!

Best Bakery -- not refined, not French, just good donuts

Tried this place this a.m. Got there about 9, line out the door. By the time I got to the counter, there were not many "flavors" left. Apparently, you can call in to pre-order, which is definitely the way to go. Couldn't find anything on their website listing the menu though. I had a 1) pistachio cake donut, which, disappointingly, only had pistachios on the top and not in the donut itself, 2) a plain glazed, which was nothing to write home about, and 3) pumpkin donut holes, which I'd get again.

Major Ramen craving

Tanpopo is now serving ramen, but only on Mondays. And they only have Shoyu ramen.

CSA advice?

Hi. I'm thinking of joining a CSA this year and am looking for info on personal experiences with the various local farms. The list from the Land Stewardship Directory is a bit overwheming to go through, farm by farm. Ideally would have half-shares and deliver to St Paul. There are a few people in my condo building who may be interested in joining - direct delivery would be a huge plus. Thanks!

RAKU japanese restaurant/ 50th street/ downtown edina

Has anyone tried the NabeYak Udon? I am wondering how it compares to Tanpopo's....

Moving to the Twin Cities - best neighborhood for big eaters?

St Paul farmer's market was listed as one of the best in the nation last year:

Also, Black Sheep Pizza just opened in downtown StP

New Buffet (STP)

Saw people seated inside as I drove by, and their open sign was lit.

New Zealand Chocolate in Minneapolis

I would definitely give Sugar Sugar Candy a call. They can track down just about anything and special order!

They also have a facebook page.

solo dining

I tend to favor small plates type of serving. Not looking for a steakhouse. Love Italian, Japanese, fusion. Thanks for your help.

Faces Mears Park

Is this place a complete dud? I looked at the menu and it seems uninspired. Has anyone been?

Twin Cities street food

Fork in the Road gals are planning on working through the winter!

Trung Nam bakery now serving pho ($4.99 through tomorrow)

Stopped by for lunch today. Pho isn't served until 1pm.

Recs for Upper West Side

I'll be staying at the Lucerne (79th and Broadway) for a weekend. Looking for a low-key place where you don't have to shout to be heard across the table. Ideally would like a locavore-type of menu. Price is open.

Minneapolis loss = St. Paul gain

Are they only around during the lunch hours? Are they tweeting their locations?
