Stovetrotters - Asheville - Biltmore Village

had a really positive experience there for lunch. thought it was great value for the quality. see longer post at

Stovetrotter Bistro, Asheville

went there for lunch yesterday and thought it was terrific. the calamari aubrey appetizer (lightly flash fried rings with green onions, diced tomatoes and balsamic vinagrette) was extremely tender and flavorful. cider-braised short ribs served over baby lentils with root vegetable ragout was also tasty. entrees likewise did not disappoint. blue crab cakes were generous in portion and very sweet. wild mushroom strudel exemplified gourmet comfort food. the owner/pastry chef Jenny Kommit also came over and spoke to us after the meal (bringing along complimentary chocolate truffles). she said the first year has been very tough and they are still trying to establish themselves as a weekend night destination. so if you're debating whether to go for lunch or dinner, maybe try Saturday night. regarding the whole online prices debate - you'd be seriously missing out to cross this place off for such a superficial reason. for the quality, creativity and portion size, the prices are extremely reasonable. appetizers range from $6-$14. salads and soups are $6-$8 and entrees are $10-$13. not sure if the dinner menu is pricier. oh, and one more thing. they had wonderful sour dough bread, fresh out of the oven, with crispy crust and served with fig butter.
