Beer from Mission Brewery in SD
I recently was shopping at Henry's Marketplace and saw Mission Brewery Beer on the shelves! How exciting!
Beer from Mission Brewery in SD
I found out that the Blind Lady in Normal Heights on Adams is carrying a few Mission Brewery beers not to mention a ton more quality beers. Good stuff! Cheers!
Best Mussels in San Diego
Yes...a number of years ago I did. They were some work but wow, you don't get fresher than from the source -- the ocean! I made them with some tomato paste with some white wine and fresh chopped garlic, tomatoes, olive oil and basil. I liked it!
Anyone try Pennsylvania Soup and Seafood House in Doylestown recently?
I was there this week and holy cow...great Creamy Crab Soup. One of my co-workers got the Clam Chowder and said it was fantastic. Anyone have the recipes? I'm from San Diego so popping over to Doylestown is a bit of a haul.
Best Mussels in San Diego
A couple of my friends and I are on a mission to find the best steamed mussels in San Diego. I've gone to a number of places and was underwhelmed by their mussels. With that, there are two places that stick out as having excellent mussels; The 3rd Corner (Ocean Beach) and South Beach (Ocean Beach). I know, what are the odds they are both in the same neighborhood. Anyway, does anyone out there have recommendations on where they've had great mussels?
Best Pizza - San Diego
I like Bronx Pizza so I agree it is towards the top of the list or at the top. It is very similar to my memory of NYC pizza. I'm not saying it is the same...it is similar. (I'm a native NYer but have been in CA for a looooooooooong time.)
SD - Classic French Bistro?
Cafe Chloe is very good. If you are looking something that has the escargot, duck, and pate dishes that are common on French menus, there is Thee Bungalow in Ocean Beach. I know it has changed ownership in the last 2.5 years (or so) but I understand some of the original items that made this restaurant such a neighborhood favorite are still there. Those items were traditional French dishes that I'd seen on menus in Paris. Again, they changed owners (as it was previously a family run establishment) to a well known restaurant group in SD so I'm not 100% on the menu as of late.
Roy's on Harbor Drive (San Diego)?
Oceancitygirrl, great suggestion! I agree 100%, that is one of the best views of San Diego.
Beer from Mission Brewery in SD
Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of folks have other suggestions...like Karl Strauss (their hef is good!) and Gordon Biersch (who was pouring right next to Mission at the SD Brewer's Guild Beer Fest...and while the Hef was good, I didn't get any banana flavor from it.) but I was really looking for a specific very banana-esque beer by Mission Brewery. That particular beer was uniqely refreshing and I want more of it. :o) (Also, as I started doing a broader search, learned they are no longer brewing out of the place at UTC Shopping Mall...they are somewhere in South Bay.). Thanks again!!
Beer from Mission Brewery in SD
I went to a beer festival before Thanksgiving and had the best Hefeweizen beer ever that was brewed by Mission Brewery (based in San Diego). It had, of all things, a banana flavor going on which was really unique, clean, and great tasting. Does anyone know where their beer is being served around town?
Roy's on Harbor Drive (San Diego)?
I have gone to both the UTC Roy's (many times) and the Harbor Roy's (once). The food was quite good at both locations. The only complaint I had with the location downtown is that it is part of the Manchester Grand Hyatt so there's quite the walk through the hotel to get to the restaurant which is on the other side of the pool. However, the service was great and the food was excellent. I say it's a winner! I love their lobster potstickers and crab cakes. The fish is extremely fresh at both locations. I'm also a huge fan of the chocolate lava cake. Oozing chocolate? Can you go wrong?
Very Specific La Jolla Request
If you end up at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, there is a great quaint neighborhood close by. A restaurant that comes to mind is Piatti's. The food is reasonable in price and deeeeelish. I also recall there being some deals on wine on specific nights (1/2 price bottles -- you can't beat that!).
Is Stingaree Nightclub and Universal Nightclub Going out of Business?
I understand they also own Bar West in PB.
Cooking Classes in CA
Great News, in Pacific Beach, offers a wide array of cooking classes in its large demo kitchen. This place is also a discount store selling all the top brands of cookware and small appliances. They have a great Friday Night Dinner series which is very hands on and a lot of fun.
Great Wine Shop in Encinitas?
This place also has a fantastic policy of $5.00 for a corkage fee. I went there on a date and watched my date pick out a $140 bottle and only pay $5.00 for a corkage fee. On the flip side, a $10.00 bottle has a $5.00 corkage fee.
Baked brie in a short crust?
I also have made a crust using butter, cream cheese and flour as described below but I add a few more things inside the dough. I take the Brie and slice it to create 2 wheels. After rolling out one disc, I place one of the Brie halves rind down on the dough. Then I spread some type of jam or preserves (Cherry is my favorite but orange marmalade and apricot preserves are pretty good too) over the brie and then sprinkle a hand full of sliced almonds. Then I place the other half of the wheel on with the rind side up. I spread more of the preserves and almonds and then cover with the other half of the dough as described below. I've served it at a friend's house and watched at 2 of the other guests attacked it like a hoard of locusts. We took our lives in our own hands when we ventured in to get a taste. It was a hit!
