Best Reuben you've had in the Twin Cities?

I had heard about Skinners and since I love Reubens I took a ride over. I've had Reubens in *almost* every place that serves them in town and too many of them are put together wrong. Some have no cheese, some have no dressing, some have too little corned beef, some used wet saurkraut, some come on ungrilled bread, some are on undergrilled (soggy) bread, some are revisionist. So my criteria is pretty basic: the sandwich has to be put together correctly and it has to be big and it has to be traditional. And by big I mean you have to pull some of the corned beef out and eat it separately in order to fit the sandwich in your mouth. Skinner's fit those criteria so I was happy. Plus it came with fries instead of chips! Sadly, this article appeared in the StarTrib about a week after I was there.

I thought another very good Reuben was at Bunny's in St. Louis Park. Culver's sells a Reuben, too. It's not very good, but it's not bad in a pinch!

I'm in Minnetonka so I did drive across town for it and I thought it was a good enough Reuben to back for. The problem with Skinners is the place is filthy.

I can also vouch for McGarry's. Mac's Industrial in NE Mpls. has a thick sliced Reuben but the problem is, at least the two times I went there, there was very little corned beef in the sandwich.

Chef Lee's in Plymouth

I was in Plymouth yesterday and saw a Chinese restaurant in a small strip mall called Chef Lee's. Has anyone eaten there?

Reuben sandwich - searching for "The One"

Any suggestions on the absolute best Reuben in the Twin Cities?

Where I've already been:

5-8 Club (Champlin). Lousy. Messy sandwich and bottom piece of bread was soaked in grease.

Park Tavern. See above only add in rude wait staff.

O'Gara's - Not bad, but bread tasted toasted instead of grilled. Upcharge for fries which is always a negative for me.

Girvan's Grille - Not bad. Flavorful corned beef, just not a whole lot of it. Chunks of corned beef rather than slices.

Cecil's - Very good, but small.

I've purposely avoided Crossroads Deli because I think they're overpriced and "The One" shouldn't be served open-faced. I've also avoided Mort's because of the chips thing.

Your suggestions?

MSP: Best Reuben Sandwich

Cecil's has a lot going for it, but the knishes don't make the list. Frozen and microwaved and by the time they cool down enough to put in your mouth all you're left with is a tasteless glob of potato and a too-chewy, rubbery dough that even salt can't save.

MSP: Pastrami Jacks Closed

I just got an email informing me that Pastrami Jacks has ceased operation. I always thought the location was bad, but I thought the food was pretty good. For a city that struggles to get a good deli here it's sad to see one close.

MSP: Where do you like for brunch?

What do you all recommend for a weekend brunch in the Twin Cities? It'll be a small group celebrating a special occasion so it should be a place with nice ambiance and not too busy or noisy. Menu or buffet doesn't matter as long as it's not Old Country Buffetish. Thanks!

Anyone have a recommendation for a Jewish Deli in MSP??

I agree with this. It's an abomination. If someone is really looking for a good deli in the Twin Cities their best bet is to save up their money and take a trip to a city with good delis.

MSP: Thanksgiving Spots

Anyone have any favorite buffets/hotels/restaurants they like for Thanksgiving dinner? Thanks.

[MSP] Pastrami Jack's

I was there for breakfast with a friend about three weeks ago. A Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and we were the only people in the place. H&H bagels were still advertised on the menu, but they were serving something closer to a thawed Lender's Bagel. The type that's been left in the freezer way too long.

MSP: Midweek breakfast

MSPD and everyone else - thank you for the suggestions! Yes, I know I was vague in my request. This is someone I meet maybe 3-4 times a year for a mid-week breakfast so it's sorta special, but not so much in a special food way if that makes sense. Good food is certainly a bonus that makes it all that much better. While you wouldn't think it possible, we always have a difficult time deciding where to meet. Do we want pancakes? A sweet roll? An omelette? We never know where to go and so I thought it'd be nice to just toss out the question and see what was on the top of everyone's mind. Thanks again!

MSP: Midweek breakfast

Any suggestions on a nice place to take a visitor for a mid-week breakfast in Minneapolis/suburbs? Thanks!

MSP: Chow Mein?

Does anyone have any recommendations for places (dine in or take out) that serve good, plain, old fashioned celery based chicken chow mein (recipes also gladly accepted!)? I've tried David Fong's and thought it was good, but I'd like to find something in the western suburbs. Thanks!
