ISO: Thanksgiving sandwich?

Short of going to Whole Foods and getting each ingredient separately from the prepared foods section, I was wondering if there were any places out there that serve a delicious (key) thanksgiving sandwich. Ideally, the sandwich would have turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce.

Not open-face and not just the ingredients thrown between two slices of bread, which I can very well do myself. Just wondering if anyone knew of a place that actually made a special Thanksgivng sandwich. I had a mighty tasty one from Pret a Manger in London called a Holiday Sandwich and it had turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, spinach, and some gourmet mayo spread. It was delicious.

Mexican food in the Valley

Second Los Toros in Chatsworth - a true find. The BEAN DIP is AMAZING (sorry, but it merits yelling)!! Be careful - it gets crowded so go early. Good margaritas and the prices are great!

HELP!! I'm hankering for CRABS at the beach

(hee hee, funny title?)

I have heard you can go to the beach for a good crab feast. I did my chowhound research and came up with Redondo Beach (Quality, Pacific, Captain Kids) or Long Beach (Crab Pot). Are these the best places to go? Can anyone compare any of them? I only recently discovered that I like crabs (from my blue crab handrolls from Hiko) and would love to just eat a whole bunch of crabs now.

Could someone please let me know:
WHO
WHAT (to order?)
WHEN (is it seasonal - are these places even open now? is it crazy crowded)
WHERE (parking situation, address, if possible?)
HOW MUCH?
And any additional info would be good too!!

Thanks!!!!! I'll be sure to write a review

Uncle Darrows

I tried it myself last night and it was yummy. I tried the Zeek and the shrimp & oyster (Bayou?) po'boys and they were both dee-lish. We also had the jambalaya (just okay) and the crawfish etouffe (hubby loved it). I loved that they try to do things a little healthier (no beef or pork). But the taste is still there!

26 Beach Cafe, Yay or nay?

Yay for me. They have a very extensive menu so I can't vouch for every item, but their stuffed french toasts are fabulous (esp. the Polar Bear - ice cream for breakfast!!) as are their burgers, fries, salads, and CHOCOLATE CAKE.

BTW - Primo's Donuts Live Up to the Hype

Yes, today I did notice an older spry gentleman that I had never seen on my visits before. Perhaps the Mr. Primo that has passed on was Mr. Primo, Sr. I had 2 glazed buttermilks. Another mystery: Why is it so hard to eat only one donut? Knowing that a second will make you feel like you have bricks in your stomach but you eat the second one anyway.

BTW - Primo's Donuts Live Up to the Hype

I had heard that Mr. Primo had passed away a few years ago but two posters have mentioned that they spoke with Mr. Primo recently. Can anyone clarify?

Pistachio Ice cream at Rite Aid [moved from Los Angeles]

Thrifty ice cream was a daily trip for me after school. I always got a double scoop - cookies n cream and coconut pineapple. I can't believe it's 99 cents per scoop either!

GOOD CHOCOLATE CAKE

I had the 26 Beach cake last night and it was fabulous - on par with my favorites from Urth Caffe and Gelson's.

Whole Wheat Pizza In West LA

CPK does not use whole wheat, it is honey wheat which is not must better nutritionally than white dough.

Earth, Wind, and Flour does a whole wheat pizza.

Salmon Chili ... you got a recommendation for me?

I, too, have only seen this at Whole Foods. I have gotten it numerous times and it is tasty. My only comparison is the salmon chili packaged stuff (looks like a big capri-sun) my in-laws send me from Seattle and the WF one is much much better.

Looking for your favorite Mandu (or Mandoo) recommendations.

I like the big mandoos at YuChun - multiple locations - 6th (and Alexandria?).

Best chocolate cake in L.A.?

It's good to find a good one so I stick to my top two: Urth Caffe and Gelson's!!!!! Both are really good and moist.

Best pre-prep'd holiday meal? Whole Foods VS Bristol Farms

I've ordered from Whole Foods for the past two years - Northridge and Westwood - and they were both FABULOUS!! Growing up in an Asian household, I never liked Thanksgiving food prior to Whole Foods. We always had an Asian spread and a Thanksgiving spread and I always stuck to the Asian foods. I've also had several home-cooked Thanksgiving meals at my "American" friends' homes and while I always went in with an open mind, I never liked it in the end. But when I tried the Whole Foods stuff, it was soooo yummy!! Their cornbread stuffing is really good, as is all the sides and the turkey is moist. Highly recommended. Can't comment on Bristol Farms since I've never had theirs.

Best Burger in LA?

The Max burger at Grand Lux Cafe is really good. Nook Bistro has a burger that I hear is similar to Father's Office. I like Nook's burger but I don't like their fries, they're too skinny. It's hard to find a place with a good burger AND good fries.

In a pinch - Fatburger.

best pumpkin pie in LA?

I LOVE the pumpkin pie at Urth Caffe!!!! It's a must try - it's different than any pumpkin pie I've had. I can eat Costco/Marie Callendar's but Urth Caffe takes pumpkin pie to another level. There are locations in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood.

Best lentil soup?

Nook bistro on Santa Monica and W. LA makes a special version, they add some sort of cheese. I always get it without the cheese though and it's a nice, light and tasty soup.

Has anyone been to O-Dae-San recently?

By definition hwe dup bap means fish over rice so there must be rice in it. Basically, it's the fish version of bibimbap.

Biscuits and Gravy???

I have come to really like the biscuits at John O'Groats (10516 W Pico Blvd). At first, I didn't know what to think of them (they're smaller and denser than the norm) but I've grown to look forward to them when going to John O'Groats. I'm not sure if they have gravy, but the biscuits are good by themselves or with butter and jam.

Best bao in LA

Korean grocery stores (namely HK) have Korean style baos in their hot food/prepared foods section. They are really tasty, even reheated!

Pumpkin everything....That time of the year!

I second the pumpkin pie from Urth cafe - the real whip cream is a bonus! I just had it for the first time a couple weeks ago and I wish I lived closer to one of their locations. Does anyone know if Urth carries it year round?

I actually live right behind a Marie Callendars so I have been fulfilling my pumpkin pie cravings through their $5.99 pie sale. After that's over (end of the month), I see myself trekking over to Urth. My husband actually prefers Mari Callendars because Urth's is too authentic tasting which he's not used to. Also, Whole Foods carries the Sugar Plum Fairy brand pumpkin pie which is a good standard.

bluebird cafe cupcakes

Totally agree with you on Buttercup in Midtown - it's my standard as well and I haven't been able to find anything better. I haven't tried Bluebird yet but it's on my list. Have you been to Buttercake Bakeshop (not to be confused with Buttercup!) on Pico? Their red velvet is not too bad. I definitely hated Sprinkles and it is too overpriced.

26 Beach - GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD

Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I did sit at the corner booth! And I do remember a couple that sat at the bar - that must have been you! Wow, Chowhounds are everywhere - no wonder these boards are so great.

Wat Thai - Review

I was one of those that came with really high expectations due to all the Chowhound hype. Actually, the letdown wasn't so much the food but the atmosphere. Since I read that it was such a surreal place and that I would be "transported" out of LA, I expected something totally different (I don't really know what) than what I encountered. I also drove all the way from the westside. But, I came for the papaya salad and mango with sweet rice and they were both delicious and a great value. I won't go out of my way again, but if I were in the area, I would definitely go again.
