Luna Park or ?

Totally agree with the Goat Cheese fondue - that stuff is awesome! And I went with a party of 4 and a reservation, and we were seated within 5 minutes, on a Friday night.

A.O.C musts

Went there just last month and absolutely loved it! Favorite dishes and absolute musts are: roasted dates, skirt steak with black olive aioli, and chicken liver crostini. Unbelieveable meal.

Good Eatery for College Students

Thirded. I love Luna Park, granted I went right after a USC football game (yes, I'm a student thus I may have been a bit inebriated), but the service, drinks, and food was great. Get the goat cheese fondue as an appetizer, and I hear the mac and cheese is wonderful.

custom waffle irons

I'm currently a student here at USC (at least until May when I graduate), and a couple of the restaurants on campus have custom made waffle makers which have "USC" printed on one side so the waflle will show the "USC" symbol once finished. Does anyone know where I can purchase a custom made waffle maker which will show such an imprint?
Thank you

Quick question about AOC bread spread

Finally went to AOC on thursday night and absolutely loved it!! One of my favorite dishes believe it or not was the red spicy spread that was served with the bread. Can anyone tell me what what the spread is called or some of the ingredients that are in it? Thanks much!

Recommendation(s) for top 3 restaurants in LA? Cost not an issue

AOC all the way! The skirt steak with olive aioli, bacon dates, and chicken liver crostini were absolutely amazing!!! Although, I might be a bit biased because it is the only really nice restaurant I've been too here in LA, and it was amazing. But I really want to try Providence next, so if you go there, please let us know what you think.

AOC - 2 questions

I'm curious as to why AOC isn't best for long nights. Do you men you wouldn't stay there for more than an hour? Or do you mean that you wouldn't go there to start out the night? Any other recs for desserts nearby or places to go afterwards, perhaps dancing?

Thank again

AOC - 2 questions

I posted about AOC a few weeks back because I was planning on going there. Well something came up and I had to cancel the dinner. But now I have a reservation for this thursday at 7pm. Question #1 - I have never been to a small plates restaurant like AOC so I am not exaclty sure how ordering goes. Do I order all of the plates at once, or do I order one after another? Ouestion #2 - I would like to make a night of this, so I'm estimating the dinner will last for a couple hours, and after that we will either go to a club or go get dessert and then go to a club. Does anyone have a suggestion for a dessert place or a nightclub good for dancing that is fairly close to AOC (~2 miles)? Also, as far as plates go at AOC, I'm thinking: roasted dates, grilled scallops, grilled skirt steak, and the sauteed wild mushrroms. Is this a good selection? Is it enough food for 2 people? any changes or additions that you would make?

Thanks a lot for your help

Trader Joe wine bargains

I'm a huge fan of Napa River cabernet (4.99), Black Mountain (by Fat Cat) cabernet (4.99), Blackstone cabernet (4.99), and Meridian Pinot Noir (~10.99).

Blue Velvet review w/pics - downtown LA

Awesome review. If you want another restaurante to check out, please go to 626 Reserve. It is a relatively new wine bar and there are only a few reviews on this board. I have been dying to try it but am lacking time.

Updated Santa Cruz restaurant reviews/opinions, please!

You must be thinking of Vasili's on Mission street. Although I have never been there, it is highly regarded in SC and supposedly has some of the best greek food in the area. I think I need to head over today, lol.

California Pizza Kitchen? (Opening in San Francisco)

Whoa Emme, that is awesome. Is it like In & Out where they have secret names or titles? Or do you just tell exactly what they want?

Upscale Mexican Cuisine

Very true Das. Although I didn't have one, I have heard that their margarita's are still very good, sans the tequila.

Upscale Mexican Cuisine

I have to agree on La Serenata in Boyle Heights. I went to dinner here one night for a school project (best homework ever!) and it was by far the best mexican food I have ever had. Don't let the surrounding neighborhood fool you, it may seem like the ghetto outside, but inside it is very, very elegant.

Special meal for this sunday night

Yeah, I was originally thinking AOC because it seems really fun and there will be much to keeo talking about. I also remember reading about sitting upstairs to keep things quiet as the main dining room may become loud. What do you recommend? Is there a particular place to sit that may be better?

Thanks again.

Special meal for this sunday night

I'm looking for a special meal this sunday night, kind of a first date, but not exactly (more of a third date). I know Lucques has the sunday night supper, but I've heard that it's not as great as their other tasting menus. I'm looking for something below $65 per person, including wine. So, preferably, below $150 total. And looking for anything within 15 miles from downtown.

I have been thinking about these places:
La Cachette
Little Door
Grace
Lucques
Luna Park
AOC
Violet
Jiraffe
Providence

What would you pick?

Thanks

New in Downtown?

Has anyone been the new (relatively new) 626 Wine Bar. There are only a couple topics about it on the forum, and not to many details. But from what has been said, it sounds decent. Any thoughts?

Best martinis in the World??

I believe Duke's is the location where the creator of James Bond decided to include a martini as Bond's staple, because the martini's there were supposed to be the best in the world (supposedly). I watched Follow that Food the other day on TV and they did a part on Duke's Hotel. Very interesting to watch the bartender there make a martini.

Manhattan - orange garnish?

Oh yeah, Perfect manhattan's are awesome. It took me a a little while to clearly tell the difference between manhattan's flavored with different vermouths, but now I really enjoy Perfect manhattan's and even a manhattan made with all dry vermouth. And yes, the maraschino cherries are disgusting, as soon as I can find some fresh cherries I will try soaking my own. And I will definitely try the dried cherry idea. Thanks!

Manhattan - orange garnish?

I realize I may get a lot of crap for this, but I have just recently fallen for manhattan's, in fact, I am partaking in one right now. I have indulged in both shaken and stirred, but the stirred are my favorite. And after experimenting with a few different garnishes I have found a wedge of orange to be my favorite, much better than a cherry. Has anyone else tried this? Any other opinons on how to make a manhattan?

So what's the next "new" hamburger creation by fast-food chains?

Of course I wouldn't try one. You must not know me, I am a healthy eater as it is (I don't eat fast foods at all and barely eat meat). I couldn't even imagine what a krispy kreme doughnut burger would do to your arteries, and I couldn't imagine that it would taste good. Although, back before I became a health-concsious eater, I did partake in deep freid twinkies and deep fried oreos. Those were awesome, lol.

So what's the next "new" hamburger creation by fast-food chains?

I've heard from a few people that Krispy Kreme is going to create a burger. Get this, they are going to make a burger with a krispy kreme doughnut as the bun. Hopefully it's not true, but if it is, WOW! That is disgusting

Bar around downtown/USC for the games tomorrow

I was thinking Casey's, but I;m thinking its gonna be pretty busy. I have just recently heard of Royal Clayton's and it sounds promising. Has anyone else been there? Is there just one tv? Is it big enough to watch the game? I looked on their website and really like their choice of drinks and food.

Thanks

Bar around downtown/USC for the games tomorrow

I didn't get a chance to go up to the weekender for the USC vs. Stanford game tomorrow, so I'm trying to find a place to watch it with all of my friends who got left behind. Looking for somewhere that has decent food, and preferably a big screen to watch the game. Cheap beer is always a plus too. I don't really was to venture all the way out to Santa Monica, but will if I can't find anywhere else.

I know this has been asked, but there have got to be more options and more opinions than what has shown up in the search.

Thanks

Where to watch USC vs. Stanford game

Ok, before I ruffle ay feathers, let me say that I was born and raised in the bay area and will truly always be a bay area boy. On the other hand, I am now attending USC and will be coming up with a bunch of my friends this weekend for the USC vs. Stanford game, or more commonly called "the weekender." None of us have tickets so we are looking for a cool bar to watch the game in San Francisco. The place has gotta have at least a couple large tv's, possibly some *decent food (cheap and mediocre will do just fine), some quality beers on tap, and its gotta be big enough to sit at least the 20 or so people in our group. Something relatively close to downtown or near union square qould do perfect. And pool tables are a big plus.

Thanks

trendy mexican

Not sure how limited you are to SM, but La Serenta is a GREAT mexican food restaurant, or at least the one in Boyle Heights is. Only been to El Cholo on Western, but it was ok. Not very good, just ok.

Luna Park = Awesome!

My parents and Aunt and uncle came down to LA from Northen California this weekend for the USC vs. Washington Game. After reading the great reports about Luna Park and driving by it numerous times going to the Grove, I decided to take them there for dinner. I gotta say, it was awesome! The findue and grilled artichoke appetizer were both amazing, and my sea bass was unbelievable. That is now one of my favorite places for dinner, although it does get really dark and a little hard to hear. But overall, one of my top ten in LA.
