Restaurants near Warren, NJ?

My family recently moved to Warren, NJ and I'm looking for restaurant recs .. have started trying a lot in the immediate area but could use more recommendations both in Warren and in surrounding areas (including but not limited to Watchung, Plainfield, Dunellen, Bridgewater, Somerville, Summit). Asian restaurants in particular have been a little harder to find! Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Need to find a place to buy bushels of fresh littleneck clams in Edison, NJ

H Mart on Rt 27, Kam Man supermarket on Rt 1, and Asian Food Center off Stelton in South Plainfield generally have clams available. You can also try Westfield Seafood, the gentleman who works there goes up to Fulton Market every morning and knows a lot about local seafood, I'm sure he could help you out.

Acquaviva or La Griglia

I was supposed to try La Griglia the other day but they aren't open on Sundays. I have tried and enjoyed Acquaviva. I'll comment solely on location- the area of Acquaviva might be a little more fun for a "date night" than La Griglia - La Griglia is on a busy street with no outdoor dining, while Acquaviva is in downtown Westfield with a nice outdoor dining area, and you can walk around after dinner or grab coffee or frozen yogurt. The inside of both of these restaurants both seem very nice though and I think either one would be a solid choice.

Chinese banquets in NJ?

I've been to weddings, funerals, birthdays, and graduations at Royal, Wonder Seafood, King's Chef, and Sunny Palace. IMHO, at least in the Edison area, Royal and Wonder Seafood are the best, but Wonder is smaller. King's Chef in Woodbridge and Sunny Palace are both bigger and have bars though, but I don't think the food is quite as good as the others. All have comparable service (King's Chef also does sushi, which none of the others do).

Royal and Wonder Seafood have more variety of interesting dishes whereas King's Chef and Sunny Palace are slightly more mainstream.

Thumbs Up Chinese Restaurant - Edison, NJ

I don't believe so, or at least not that I'm aware of in the area. I know you can order Sichuan hot pot at some local restaurants but it's not hot pot in the sense that you cook it yourself at your table, they are always made in the kitchen and brought out. Even though the Yelp reviews are not great, it seems that most of the reviewers had issues with cleanliness and service, two things that unfortunately many "authentic" places seem not to consider high on the priority list. I didn't see anything when I went that would cause me actual alarm, but it was packed with Asian clientele when I went which would indicate to me that the food is probably more than passable if you can get over the other issues.

Thumbs Up Chinese Restaurant - Edison, NJ

It's a Chinese hot pot restaurant in the old location that used to be Woo Jeon, a Korean restaurant. Basically some of the tables have hot pots installed in them, you order meats and vegetables and cook them at your table yourself (sort of like fondue). Chinese hot pot are stocks/broths that are boiling in a pot so you cook your meat and vegetables and noodles in the broth, you can pick from regular or spicy. They have some normal meats and vegetables like chicken, shrimp, etc, and then they have more interesting meats and various animal parts for the brave of heart. You can also get things like beef noodle soup.

They apparently also have some regular Chinese food dishes available as well for the more conservative, I thought I saw a sign for chicken and broccoli and General Tso's Chicken, although I didn't get to order any. I did ask for a menu toward the end of the meal just to see what they had, but for whatever reason (probably because I'm Chinese and they assumed I could read Chinese) they brought me one in Chinese and I didn't bother trying to explain that I meant I wanted the English one.

All in all my very Asian parents and relatives really enjoyed the hot pot so if you're looking for a pretty authentic and reasonably priced adventure (you pay for small plates of the raw meats/veggies sort of like tapas style, not more than a few dollars each), I would give it a try, I didn't eat much but I plan on trying it again.

Asking for updated info on Korean (with BBQ) in Ocean/Monmouth Counties / Vietnamese also

So Kong Dong Tofu House on the other side of H Mart in that same strip mall is pretty good too, if you haven't tried that either. Very limited menu but great tofu soups

Lola's Latin Bistro Metuchen NJ

I had the same experience in the old location, I went once to try it with 3 girlfriends and we actually sat for about 20-30 minutes before we even got menus. It was almost comical because we were passed by the wait staff, host, and owner several times trying to signal someone and we had just about decided to leave, but someone finally noticed and handed us 4 menus. The food was decent, but overall the service was so terrible that it ruined the evening for us. The wait and bus staff were pleasant enough, it was just incredibly slow and very chaotic. We didn't risk staying for dessert since we had already waited so long for menus and food.

I know they've moved to a larger location, it sounds like they still have kinks to work out in service regardless of space.

Wonder Seafood DIM SUM Edison any menu suggestions?

probably should go sometime before 3pm as dim sum is traditionally a "brunch" type meal and not dinner fare and may not be offered. if you go monday-friday, you order off a menu. if you go sat-sun, you order off carts that get wheeled around.

the last page includes their dim sum menu, it says until 3pm.

dim sum suggestions:
beef fun noodle
shrimp fun noodle (these are the "crepe" type things filled with shrimp or beef with soy sauce
)har gaw (shrimp dumplings)
sui mai (meat dumplings)
beef ball (beef meatballs w waterchestnuts)
chicken sticky rice in leaf
steamed roast pork buns
stuffed green pepper (warning these are usually hot peppers not green peppers)
stuffed eggplant

honestly everything is good ... have fun!!

Your top CNJ restaurants by cuisine

AK Seafood Restaurant (formerly 19 Seafood Restaurant) - Avenel, NJ (on Rt 1 by Woodbridge .. if you like Wonder Seafood this place is bigger and IMO has a slight edge over Wonder .. they are also much bigger for dim sum, Wonder crams everyone in)
Dragon Palace - Edison, NJ
Grand Shanghai - Edison, NJ (they also have pretty decent half price sushi 7 days a week, I think it's much better than Uyee)

Sushi Suzuki - Metuchen, NJ
Midori Sushi - Piscataway, NJ (also has a branch in Highland Park but haven't tried that one)
Mr. Pi's - Metuchen, NJ
Sushi Palace - Edison, NJ (sushi is average to above average but probably one of the better AYCE options in the area as everything is made to order, about $20-25 per person)

Thai Thai - Edison, NJ
Thai Basil - Piscataway, NJ
Mie Thai - Woodbridge, NJ
Pad Thai - Highland Park, NJ
Thai Noodle - New Brunswick, NJ
Four Seasons - Piscataway, NJ (cash only!!)
Heard good things about Radhana in Metuchen but haven't tried. Put a few of my local favorites since you haven't found one you liked in the area.

Kimchi Hana - South Plainfield, NJ

Personally I tried Makeda a while back and didn't like it at all. This list is of course is in addition to the many great restaurants that have already been named.

need suggestions for 50th wedding anniversary meal with young kids

Since a gluten free diet is hardest to accommodate of all your requests there are several websites devoted to restaurants with gluten free dining in NJ. I'm not familiar with Plainsboro but if you are looking in New Brunswick or Metuchen (both are in the same county as Plainsboro and both have train stops off the Northeast Corridor line out of Penn Station) you may want to try Steakhouse 85 in NB which is a little pricy but a special occasion restaurant that doesn't mind kids. Main St Trattoria in Metuchen is a nice little Italian restaurant but has a gluten free menu in addition to its regular menu and theres a ice cream shop across the street for the kids. Check the websites for menus and pictures to see if either peaks your interest.

I would definitely look up the gluten free websites and do some research as well. Good luck!

Looking for party location for 14 year old girls

If you're not far from Edison you may want to try the AMC theatre, the one at Menlo Park Mall has the Fork & Screen option so they can eat and watch a movie at the same time. The food isn't great but pretty on par with standard TGIF, Chili's fare, and it's something different.

Other "different" dining options .. hibachi maybe? I'm not familiar with too many restaurants in the area but I'm sure you could find a good one.

Suggestion needed for really good Chinese takeout--Spring Lake area

Coming from Edison which has an abundance of good Chinese food, the hardest thing about working at the shore was the complete and utter lack of remotely passable Chinese food from Long Branch through Pt Pleasant ... that being said, Szechuan Tokyo in Sea Girt was the closest thing to decent I could find.

Might be worth a shot if your current selection is lacking and you haven't tried it. While it is far from really good, from what I remember it is much better than a lot of the other places I've tried. And yes, Shanghai Bun in Matawan. Coconut Forest in Hazlet is good too but probably too far for you.

Any great meal deals in Central NJ? 2-1's? Etc...

I don't know if they're still doing it but the Porch in Spring Lake did 2 for 1 burgers on Tuesdays ... Idle Hour in Pt Pleasant too I think ...

Also, you might want to keep an eye out on the Greater Media radio stations' websites, they do promotions for 2 for 1 gift certificates and different restaurants all the time, you pay $25 for a $50 gift certificate, they mail them to you, here are the two stations in Monmouth and Middlesex, they have another one up in the Morris Plains area but I think that may be too far from here:

Need To Find Some Good Restaurants in Monmouth County, NJ

If you're looking for something a little more on the quiet side, Bamboo Leaf in Bradley Beach has GREAT Thai. It doesn't seem like a lot of people talk about it but it would be a nice place for a first date if you're looking for something a little more intimate and quieter. Cute decor.

I've been to Takara and while it was good, it didn't blow me away ... Sawa in Eatontown is good too but expect a lot of noise and expect it to be busy.

Korean in Central Jersey

Love it, other places in the area are comparable but I think it edges out Woo Jeon and Keum Ho Jung IMHO ... probably I think their seafood pancake is by far the best of the three. Usually end up ordering the Kal Bi, Bul Go Gi, and Jap Chae as well, but I've never really gone wrong with anything I've ordered there.

My cousin recently had their wedding banquet at 1-9 (now known as Royal Seafood) in Woodbridge/Avenel and it easily held 150-200, with a dance floor. We had a really good time and the food was good.

King's Chef in Woodbridge, NJ also has a room for wedding banquets, although I'm not sure how many people it holds and I haven't eaten there in a while so I can't vouch for the food either, but it's definitely worth a look.

mayonnaise-free sushi/buffet restaurant sought

I've recommended Sushi Palace a few times, not a traditional sushi buffet but all you can eat made to order, they have a location by Princeton and a location in Edison. It's obviously not the best sushi out there, but it is definitely better than most of the sushi buffets in the area, for $20 a person you can get unlimited sushi, sashimi, and rolls (sans mayo), and hot foods like appetizers, teriyaki, katsu, and udon. You might want to do a search to see if you can find an old review on here.

Where to go for a teenager girls 17th birthday with 8 of her friends?

Medieval Times is fun if you are more interested in the ambiance than the food. Also, I've heard good things about Sushi Cruise in Edgewater (I think they do the rotating sushi bit which could be fun). Rodizio could be fun too with a group, I would look more to Newark area for that.

Food at New Meadowlands Stadium

I went for a tour there a couple of weeks ago and from what I remember there are no sit down restaurants (there's a cafeteria-esque type section for club seat holders but not sure if it'll be open to the public during a concert).

More food options than the previous stadium but it's all basically stadium fare.
