Places in the FiDi to get a salad

Hi Everyone
My sister is coming in to town to have lunch with me on Wednesday. Is there anywhere that any can think of to grab a salad? I know there's the Fast Fresh on Yonge between King and Adelaide however you can almost never get a seat in there. Any suggestions are welcome.\
Thank you

Sam James Coffee Bar in the Financial District?!

That is awesome news! I get off at King but the Sun Life building is a few short blocks away from my office so I am definitely looking forward to checking this place out!

Buster Rhino - downtown T.O.!!!

This just made my day! I have friends in Boston who have told me on occasion about some food fests that come to town and a couple of good bbq joints in and around Boston. I have yet to find a place like that here and am beyond happy that Buster will hopefully come to Toronto! Like you num nums I am car-less so if this becomes a reality I'm sure a lot of us will be VERY happy!

I've never had a good cupcake in Toronto...

BTW I forgot to mention that I don't like sweets from chain coffee shops because they all taste chemically or as if they have too much vanilla in them. Prairie Girl is the total opposite! The cupcakes have substance to them but they aren't oily and are still fluffy. I can't sing their praises enough!

I second the vote on Prairie Girl. It's right around the corner from my office so a few days after it opened up I went over with a co-worker. It could be considered pricey but for the product we both agreed it was definitely worth it. Toronto Life (could've been Toronto.com) did a piece on the owner and how Prairie Girl Bakery came to life. It's worth a read I definitely recommend them though!

Nacho recipe for Leafs game tonight

So sorry I haven't logged on here in about two weeks but I tried your recipe out first natewrites and it was fantastic! I've made it several times since then for game night and it always went over well.

The recipe suggestion by jungman turned out just as well. Such easy recipes and both are really good!

Maine shrimp

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good place to get Maine shrimp. A friend of mine in Boston told me that Maine shrimp is in season and it only lasts for about six weeks I believe, which means the season here would be much shorter since we aren't in the coast region. If anyone knows of a market or restaurant to get some at please let me know!

Thanks!

Nacho recipe for Leafs game tonight

Nacho recipe for Leafs game tonight

Hey y'all!
I was wondering if anyone had ideas on a nacho recipe (apart from throwing some shredded cheese on) for the hockey game tonight. HINT: I like spicy so if you guys have any suggestions I'd appreciate hearing them
Thanks!

Where can I find grits in Toronto?

Interesting bytepusher! The recipe does indeed call for grits (I don't recall any mention of hominy grits). I haven't been brave enough to try the recipe yet as a lot of David Chang's stuff is very involved and I'm nowhere near up to par with his level of experience and expertise.

Where can I find grits in Toronto?

Thanks Morty 999. I haven't gotten around to checking out the other suggestions from TorontoJo but I will definitely make a stop at Southern Accent.

Food Cart news in Toronto Star.

I'm with Matt H and Splendid Wine Snob on this one. It's a shame that the project didn't take off because of greed and red tape. It's actually embarassing that things were so mishandled. I understand the government wants a handle on everything but if they want to run a project successfully they need to rely on experts and call in people who know a thing or two about the food cart industry. Or since that would cost more money (less in their pockets) observe how another city runs it. Don't go into something you know nothing about blindly.

Where can I find grits in Toronto?

Yes say no more about the chain issues!

Kensington Market is a hop, skip and a jump away from where I live so I think I'll venture over there since it's very close by.

Thanks so much!

Great thanks so much! Out of curiosity where is your Loblaws?

Where can I find grits in Toronto?

Hello everyone

I purchased David Chang's new cookbook yesterday entitled Momofuku. One of the recipes I am anxious to try first calls for grits. I know they are hard to come by in Canada if you can get them at all but would anyone happen to know of a spot in Toronto I could get them at? Preferrably somewhere accesible by transit as I live downtown and don't have a car.

Thanks for your input!

Restos on St Clair West - suggestions?

Thanks again for all the suggestions everyone!

As for the suggestion of Ferro I have wanted to give that place a try and now I know that a trusted Chowhound has gone I will definitely pay them a visit.

The Corned Beef House on Adelaide

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. I'll be keeping an eye out to see when they open up.

The Corned Beef House on Adelaide

By the way does anyone know if there is an expected date that CBH will reopen?

The Corned Beef House on Adelaide

@Strongbad789: I'm guessing that you had the correct address of 270 Adelaide?

I'm rather sad this place has closed down. There's already enough condos along the waterfront! At least they will still be around (just at another location). I hope the quality isn't affected by the move!

Caribana Food places for next weekend!! any suggestions? caribean foods like Roti places,Jamaican and good jerk chicken?

Depending on where you're staying there's a place on Oakwood Ave. called Randy's...good roti and patties but I have yet to try anything else from them.

Restos on St Clair West - suggestions?

Hello

My parents will be visiting me on the weekend and we are going for lunch on Sunday. We are looking for a nice place somewhere along St Clair Ave West (preferrably between Bathurst and Oakwood but not limited to) where we can sit and chat while enjoying a nice meal. Also, any suggestions toward the east (heading towards Yonge St) are welcome as well.

Can anyone suggest something? Prefferably a place that isn't loud and is also reasonbly priced. My parents aren't picky eaters so any type of cuisine is on the table.

Thank you for all your help!

Best corned beef sandwich in Toronto

Short ribs - need recipe ideas that don't involve bbq!

Great thank you for the link. I wouldn't have thought of combining beets with cinnamon garlic so I will be interested to give that idea a try!

Short ribs - need recipe ideas that don't involve bbq!

Hello all

I live in an apartment with no access to a bbq and was wondering if anyone had recipe ideas on how to cook short ribs via stove top or oven. I also have a crock pot (slow cooker) as well. I'm more familiar with doing these bad boys on the bbq after marinating them and rubbing them with some garlic perhaps. Any ideas/suggestions are welcome!

Neighbour's food, is it any good?

I have had a breakfast sandwich from them several times while staying out at my parents place in Brooklin. There is one not far from their home and I actually enjoyed each time. Plus the coffee is decent too. I haven't actually had any lunch-type sandwiches there though however I am willing to try them.
