Brown's Bakery Wilshire

As I recall, Gelson's in Tarzana has an excellent bakery, started by someone who used to bake at Bea's. I haven't been there in a long time so I wonder if it's still there and still as good as it was.

Chocolate covered orange peel in OC?

I would love to find that in the San Fernando Valley.

Hungarian goulash?

I remember now! It was called Old Vienna Gardens and was, I think on Sunland Blvd.

Sour cream

I bought sour cream and it's marked Grade A. Does anyone know what that means?

Blueberry pie in the SFV

I checked and there doesn't seem to be a Coffee Table. But I will drop in to Millie's, as it's close to my neighborhood. Four n 20 seems to have disappeared and the only DuPar's I know was in Studio City I think, a bit far; I wonder if they have it without the cream cheese.

Blueberry pie in the SFV

I remember from my childhood that the best pie was home made blueberry. Well even the fresh blueberries at the market seem to lack that special flavor. As for finding the pie, forget it.

If anyone has any suggestions as to where to find a sweet, generous, flavorful, moist blueberry pie I would be forever indebted.

Old Style Chinese in San Fernando Valley?

I recommend Mandarin King on Devonshire a block or less west of Balboa. Old school, great food, very reasonable prices, and you can get food prepared to your order even if not on the menu.

I have been going there for years and never have been disappointed.

Hungarian goulash?

Well gosh I was hoping for a big response! The only valley place in these posts is Maximillian's; I have seen mixed reviews, and it also seems a little expensive.

Hungarian goulash?

I remember a place many years ago in, like, Sunland/Tujunga in the wilds, with great booths and a fine goulash. I can't recall the name but that was easily 35 years ago so it can't still be there.

Anyone know of a decent place in the SFV that has good goulash at a reasonable price?

Chinese food in LA--where is the good stuff ?

I have been reasonably satisfied with Mandarin King on Devonshire near Balboa in Granada Hills. I once went there on a date with a Chinese woman who carried on a conversation with the waitress in Chinese and got us some great food not on the menu. However I have gone there many times and never was seriously disappointed. They are seldom crowded and will modify a dish on request. They are mostly Asian, and the place has been there forever.

Mort's Deli ?

It's been over three years since my last visit there but I only rate it average. I like Brent's better.
