Muchas Gracias, we are heading to PV on Friday. With a vegetarian daughter, we need all the restaurant reviews we can muster.

Park Slope area sushi wars

We always love Yamato on 7th and 1st. In addition to great rolls, we love the Salmon Skin Salad and the Spicy Seafood Soup. My son swears by the Tofu Terriaki. As one can expect in a great sushi place, it is impeccably clean, and creatively good.

A favorite on 5th Ave is Mura. Love their bento boxes.

Need Brooklyn or NY-esque Gift Ideas!

This is an interactive gift - make them Egg Creams. While not diminishing Local One [a superior Brooklyn product], you can rest assured that they have tasted beer in Japan. Bet they haven't had a great egg cream. Assuming that they have seltzer over there, just bring a bottle of Fox's U-Bet syrup. In a tall glass put in three fingers of Foxes, milk to about halfway up, and then add the seltzer while stirring. Better bring them another bottle of Fox's as well...once they try it-they'll be hooked.

If you just want to knock down a few Buds before the game, Stans will do. However, if you want something a little calmer, with better beer, there is a small place about two blocks past Stans [heading sourth on River Ave] and up the hill a bit. The sign out front says Stella Artois. There is food, good beer, and no one will puke on your shoes. I think that the actual name of the place can be found on Beer Advocate.

Barrio Park Slope

There is a tiny Park Slope Oaxacan restaurant called Chiles and Chocolate. Its located on 7th Avenue near the Conservatory of Music. The dishes are nicely spiced, and not totally dumbed down. Great attention is payed to the moles, which are delicious. Also, they make the best flan that I've had outside of Mexico. This is not a Tex-Mex place, but rather focuses on the regional cuisine of Oaxaca. Try it.

Mom-in-law in town. Any great Kosher delis still in Brooklyn?

We have long been fans of the Mill Basin Deli. Their pastrami, corned beef and chicken soup are delicious. The tables also have the obligatory pickles and cole slaw with free refills. We recently tried Jay and Lloyds and were very disappointed. It seemed that they were more concerned with schtick than with the food.

For my money, it's the Mill Basin Deli, hands down. One thing though, take a sweater as they always turn the A.C. up to stun.

Puerto Vallarta Vegetarian?

We will be in PV in August with our 15 year old vegetarian daughter. Are there any suggestions for veggie food. The restaurant does not have to be exclusively vegetarian, but should have a variety of options beyond rice and beans. Thanking all you chowhounders in advance.

Oaxaca Restaurants

Breakfast: La Olla. The key word here is fresh. We ate here at various times, but the breakfasts were great.

Lunch: Marco Polo by Llano Park. This is an outdoor type of restaurant that specializes in mammoth portions of perfectly cooked seafood. The seafood salad for one is large enough for a family. The shrimp tacos are overladen with shrimp. Fish al horno is cooked perfectly. Lots of Mexian families take lunch at Marco Polo. Don't
make dinner reservations - you'll be too full.

Dinner: Casa Oaxaca. Alejandro is an excellent chef specializing in Nueva Mexicana cuisine. The menu is varied and wonderful. This is neither tourist food nor rustic home style food. It is just delicious.

Anytime: The Zocalo is a memorable place. Grab a cup of coffee at any one of a number of places, sit down, relax, and watch the city pass by. Besides, after Marco Polo, that's all you'll have room for anyway.

Philly Foodie Staying in Montreal

We ate at le Bleu Raisin last nite [8-10-06]. This restaurant is located on St. Denis, about a mile beyond the normal restaurant area.

The cuisine is French Market, with a concentration on local produce combined with interesting spicing. There is no menu, only a chalkboard with five appetizers and five entrees. Help was provided in broken, though charming, English. For appetizers we had delicious tomato soup and a sherbet liquor. [I don't exactly know what this was, but had two.] The main courses were an incredible sea bass and salmon. Both came with perfectly prepared vegetables. Other entee choices included venison, sweetbreads. Deserts were a standard creme brule and a great chocolate torte.

The food was prepared with care and creativity. The service was also exceptional. By the way, BYOB. There may be more expensive meals in the city, but I don't know if I'll find one better. Bon Apetit.
