I haven't eaten at the original Tuscaloosa location in over a decade. It was great back then. I hate to hear that it has gone down hill.
BBQ - Mercantile BBQ - Collins, MS (About 20 min N of Hattiesburg) Awsome Baby Back Ribs!
I have eaten at the Mercantile multiple times now and it has consistently been the same. Their pork is good. Their baby back ribs are absolutely perfect. The perfect amount of smoke. The baby back ribs are good with or without sauce. They have multiple sauces to choose from. I like both their hot and their sweet sauces. This guy really knows what he's doing. Their beans are smoked and are good too. I highly recommend this place. I have tried most of the BBQ places from Hattiesburg and Laurel to the MS coast. The Mercantile is by far the best BBQ in south MS.
It is located in the old Pope building in downtown Collins, which is about 20 minutes north of Hattiesburg on Hwy 49.

If in Montgomery, I'd recommend it. If in Birmingham, I'd recommend Golden Rule at I-65 Calera exit or Bob Sykes in Bessemer or Miss Myra's in Cahaba Heights.

Not for ribs. No one should ever order anything but ribs at dreamland. Having said that, the brick pit is pretty good, if you're wanting pork.

I finally found the best place. It is The Mercantile in Collins. It was by far the best out of the many places I tried. Their ribs are absolutely perfect.

Who Has Best BBQ In South MS..............
Leatha's in Hattiesburg was awful when I tried it. I mean really bad. I've tried many places in South MS. The best place I've tried by far is The Mercantile BBQ in downtown Collins. When I say there's not a close second in south MS, I'm not kidding.
BBQ - Mike's BBQ and Smokehouse - Malbis Alabama (Near Mobile and Pensacola )
The best pulled pork I've ever had is from a good friend of mine, who custom built a brick pit in his back yard. He slow smokes his pork butts for several hours with pecan. It is by far the best I've had.
He has decided to open a new BBQ restaurant and take out market at the location of what used to be Cafe Malbis on AL Hwy 181 about 3 miles south of I-10 at exit 38(Spanish Fort/Malbis). It will be called Mike's Smokehouse and Market. They will have a take home and merchandise market in addition to the restaurant. He has custom fabricated a really impressive large pit for his new venture.
They plan to open the week of June 28. I'll report back after they open. I'm both biased and excited, because I know Mike's BBQ pork will be better than any BBQ within miles.

I had an excellent wedge salad. Their brick oven pizzas are good. I had one of the best pieces of key lime pie I've ever had. Service was good.

Cousin Vinny's in Daphne, AL is very very good, especialy the 5 cheese.
Looking for the best BBQ all over the south
Jambone on Hwy 98 in Santa Rosa Beach, FL east of Destin and west of Panama City, FL would be my recommendation. It is truly an exceptional BBQ place. I think it is worth going out of the way for. If you are near Birmingham, AL, the city is loaded with some great BBQ places.

Went to Julwin's this weekend in Fairhope. The food there has gotten really bad.

Big Bob Gibson's is the popular BBQ joint with their BBQ potatoes.
I use to really like Princeton's as a casual place, if it's still open.
Gulf Shores, AL in the off season.
Take a gas mask if you go into the Keg. You must be drunk in order to enjoy their food. Doc's is nasty and greasy, IMO.
Lulu's has a great burger.
Down South BBQ on County Road 12 just west of Hwy 59 has great take out BBQ.
