Any good "fish camp" restaurants in Central FL?

Black Water Inn was great. Went with the catfish fingerlings. Saw a little gator in the river while we ordered. This is real Florida.

Inexpensive Orlando recs for Philly hounds

I 2nd Pio Pio, but the Semoran location. One of the things I like about Orlando (and there isn't much I like :-( ) is the Latin la braza style chicken joints. The Semoran location is convenient to the airport (MCO).

The Matador is the family style offering that has everything - chicken, green and ripe plantains, rice, beans, salad, sauces, and the inexplicable fries and dogs. The fresh juices are excellent. Pina Colada and Mango were our choices.

I also like La Brazas on Orange. They were playing an ABBA music video DVD. Can't beat drinking ChiCha to the sounds of bloody Abba.

Amelia Island: 29 South, Beech St, Bonito, Moon River, Kofe Hous

We tried to go to LuLu's Bra and Grill (not a typo) mentioned elsewhere but they were closed. Wednesday appears to be the slow day that Fernandina restaurants close during the week. We were too hungry to walk up and figure out if they were still in business. We ended up at a disgusting Chinese place on Sadler - Great Kahn. My mom claims to have read a good review somewhere. That reviewer should be fired.

The next night we went to Brett's because we wanted to be on the water. Nice location and great food. Snapper and Mahi specials had good southern style preparations. But yeah, touristy. They also run Thyme which is on the Intracoastal Waterway.

After dinner at Brett"s we walked the waterfront and watched the sunset. Like a very small scale Key West island vibe. We walked down center to the Palace Saloon where Les DeMerle and his band were giving a sampling of the type of music to be played at the Amelia Island Jazz festival later this year 10/5-12/2008. http://www.ameliaislandjazzfestival.com/ Nice to see and hear some old Florida culture even if it was a little too "smooth" if you know what I mean.

The Working Cow ice cream shop across the street is really good.

If you take the ferry to Mayport and the beaches, check out Singleton's on the Mayport side. The steamed shrimp are local and excellent.

Jacksonville?

We got pizza from AL's on Phillips Highway last sunday. The spinach was OK. The Everything was way too soggy.

My sister and dad say that Pattaya Thai Grille on Baymeadows is really good.

Both are sorta near Deerwood. Traffic is hell in Jax these days. Not like the glorious 70's when Lubies (sp?) was my poison.

Boise truck food

Anyone check out these places mentioned in this Boise Weekly article on mobile food joints?

http://www.boiseweekly.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A313832

The Kilted Kod - http://kiltedcod.com

Native Taters Cafe - corner of Protest and Boise avenues

Wild Woody's Smokehouse - the empty parking lot adjacent to The Torch

Any other similar trucks that you would recommend? I think there is an authentic Chicago hotdog stand in Meridian on Fairview and Main maybe? Can't remember.

OK no one has reviewed Chandlers Steakhouse here so I will even though it is not very Chowhoundish since it is more of a main stream fine dinging kind of joint. Here is my cross-post from Yelp.

"Chandlers Steakhouse is a great place to take your father-in-law for a special occasion. You know the guy, he likes the NFL, driving his black Cadillac, and reminiscing about his days as a top salesman for an industrial supplier. Back then he used to take his prospects and clients to places like this and close deals over martinis to the sounds of jazz before it became fake. Bring him here and he will be in wanna-be-Sopranos heaven.

The Top Sirloin Kobe is amazing - locally raised by Snake River Farms. Get the mushroom side. Also try the grilled artichoke. Spinach salad with bacon and goat cheese was perfect. I'd pass on the Hef-tini, it was a little too mediciny. And I like negronis. The Clayhouse Sirah was delicious."

True 'dat. The Reuben is the meter stick of any good sandwich place and Roosters' version is excellent.

I don't get what the fuss is about Proto's. Seemed over priced and bland to me. I think a better example of the fine Connecticut pizza tradition can be found at Casanova's on Vista. http://www.casanovapizzeria.com/

Guido's Pizza is the most "chowhoundish" pizza. Local, cheap, and good.
Front Door below the Reef is good too. Local, good beers, punk rockers.
Tony's Teatro Pizza by the Egyptian is stellar. As is Casinova's on Vista and LuLu's on Bogus Basin.

But I'll tell you all that you should run not walk to Aromas Mexican Restaurant in the strip mall on Glenwood across from WallMart. The Chili Rellenos soup is amazing. Ceviche awesome. Reminds me of good Latin food we used to get in Miami.

Legends? Really? That crappy looking sports bar with the blaring sub-woofers over by the iMax theater? You musta been really hungry.

I'll second your Chaing Mai rec. Pat's Thai Kitchen on Broadway and Park Blvd. is better.

The breakfast place on 5th and Main is called Addie's. I've heard good things but have never been there.
