hey there...i am coming down to phoenix with my beau from toronto in the new year and am looking to go out for a nice meal in the 60-70$ per person range with a reasonable wine list......i was looking at the biltmore hotel and have heard some things about a Roaring Fork resto (??) but am really clueless for the most part....if you folks could give me a few suggestions that would be great!

Bodega, Messis or Eggplant?

definitely messis
i think it is one of the most underrated restos in the city. in the past few months i have had 2 really great meals there (muscovy duck breast...mmmm...stands out in my mind). the food is very reasonably priced and SO IS THE WINE ( i recommend the petit syrah/zinfandel blend by bogle). on top of this, the service is great. if you want to sit on the patio reserve well in advance. i don't like to poo-poo too much but i had one of the WORST meals of my life at eggplant nevermind the disastrous service. As for Bodega, i don't recall it being anything to write home about....mind you it has been a while..i prefer cafe la gaffe

Looking for "it" spot with great food

i would say the current 'it' spots are Cava and Kultura...both worthy candidates

Poutine

if you want poutine in toronto i suggest the rushton...not downtown, i know...but fries with double cream brie and duck confit are worth the hike

Cheap beer anywhere in the city? eg. pitchers under $12?

Bistro 422 on college at bathust is hands down the cheapest booze in the city

Circle Thai - Winterlicious - Terrible service

service is always sub-par during either of the "licious" festivals (this can also apply to food)...staff are over-worked and under-paid...

Want really bad food? Go to Baton Rouge - Eaton Centre

rule of thumb: don't go to restaurants in malls
