Minneapolites headed to Lehigh for interview...what's the food scene?

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words and suggestions! We're ready to seek out meals, and will report to the board with haste.

After we mourn the fact that we will be leaving Bethlehem exactly a week before Musikfest begins. *sigh*

Minneapolites headed to Lehigh for interview...what's the food scene?

Ok,

My fiance and I will be flying into Philly and renting a car to head to Lehigh U. for an interview. We re the kind of people who drive a couple hours for good Kraut. And we are dying to know what's in the LV that we should check out before we head back to the Twin Cities. We have a minimum of 1 lunch and 2 dinners that we must fend for ourselves, and we want to make the most of it. Here are some of the places that have been mentioned:

Thai Kitchen-Bethlehem

the Farmhouse-Emmaus

Bolete-Bethlehem

Arielle's Country Inn-Sellersville

Heavenly Hedgehog or Nuts about Ice cream

Werts-Allentown

Nawab-bethlehem

So, an suggestions off the list? Anything we missed? if you were looking at moving to the LV, where would you eat to get a good idea of the food? We eat just about anything, but we love the out of the way places.

Thanks!!

MSP: "Best" Grocery Store

Not to be stoned to death on the Chowhound board, but on the few occasions i've been to Aldi (especially the one in Richfield) , I have been pleasantly surprised. Once and a while they have just lovely things as dirt cheap prices. For New Years Eve, I found a while beef tenderloin for some wee percentage of the other places. Now that said, it's really hit and miss.

But that can be fun, if you have the time.

Minneapols on Valentine's Day

Though I am strictly a lurker, I must ad my recommendations as both a displaced New Yorker twice removed and a hard core Chowhound-er. Onto the special VD menu places!

Porter and Frye rocks my world. And their tasting menu for VD has the place buzzing (I teach at the spa upstairs) That said, I have not been to La Belle Vie *yet*, but P&F is as close to Per Se as I have found.

Heidi's is a lovely and romantic spot, and I enjoy it very much. Plus, it's very local, the food is beautifully prepared and the service has been spot on. They are having a special tasting menu for VD. I'm sure I'll wish I was there too.

Levian is also serving their spectacular flora and fauna pre fix tasting menu with a VD theme.

Three Rivers Parks District is hosting a three course meal (locally sourced), followed by a sleigh ride and locally made desserts served complete with a roaring bonfire. I would be interested to see what you thought of the TC after an outdoor dessert in February.;) (this was my first winter here. Survival of the coldest!) You'll have to look this one up online.

As for the next day, the Grand Cafe is a lovely breakfast spot, but maybe not formal enough? More quiet brunch with your in-laws than power brokering. I also like Craftsman, as well as Hell's Kitchen.

I second the whole "make your reservations now" sentiment. Everything around here books fast!

Local Burger in Lawrence, KS

I prefer to think of it as the quinoa was just that good. ;)

Starkers reserve in KC: New chef!!!

OK,

I just called over to Krause Dining to try and get a reservation for this Sunday night (closed, BTW), and asked for a KC recommendation, and Robert let me know what's happening over at Starkers Reserve.

Apparently, the owner, an excellent chef in his own right, just (like in the last week) hired a new chef. this guy comes from a farm background, knows his product, and has a really intimate approach to food.

We will definitely be there this weekend!!

Local Burger in Lawrence, KS

You know what I adored at Local burger?

The Quinoa.
It's a side dish. And i always get 2 servings, and skip the burgers completely.
Hopefully it will still be on the menu the next time i make the trek.

Amazing catering experience in KC??

So,

I will be having a catered event in KC in 2008, and I am looking for a caterer that really gets food. Nothing in frozen phyllo dough, you know?

Has anyone has a transcendental catering experience? Care to share?

As always, thanks!

tiny gem of a resturaunt in SF?

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone knew about a small, moderately priced place to have lovely fresh food in the SF area. I am coming to town w/ a friend who is moving to Hong Kong. We were hoping for interesting and creative fare, perhaps a pre fixe. 50.00 or so a person for the meal, not incuding wine or drinks is fine.

Thanks in advance!
