To anchovy or NOT to

Anchovy. And. Olive! Yikes! That is so on my list when I don't have to share with anyone else!

Ordering in Lunch in Phoenix

http://chebahut.com/new/

Or try the Cheba Hut in Tempe as well - Not too far from Cornish and I can vouch that the sandwiches are really good.

Staring at a pile of shredded cabbage, what salad should I make?

Actually the coleslaw on Chowhound is pretty impressive! Made a coleslaw lover out of me!

What did you have for breakfast today?

Fried egg sandwich. Hit the spot as I haven't had one in ages.

"Least Favorite Vegetable" Poll

Onions. I really dislike onions.

Costco Food Finds - 2nd Quarter 2012

The roasted red pepper chicken sausages are a staple in our house. We use them for everything from sandwiches (hoagie rolls) to pasta as well. Very good!

Costco Food Finds - 2nd Quarter 2012

We get the Madras Lentils as well. The price is on the high side but we can easily get two meals out of each package. They are quite good.

What did you have for lunch today?

Dairy Queen . . . I would so love that! I haven't eaten yet but I think it's going to be leftover pasta. Wah! I want DQ!

Tricks you figured out in the kitchen and thought 'good one'!!!

Oh, oh, oh! Regardless of what kind of knives you have, learn how to sharpen them. Dear Sis was a prep chef (I don't know the proper word for that position) and she taught me that sharp knives do not cut people, dull ones do.

Tricks you figured out in the kitchen and thought 'good one'!!!

Yep - I do that too! The bag thing (after having a nasty case of fruit flies in the kitchen) and the clean as you go sink full of sudsy water.

I don't boil the lasagne noodles before arranging them in the pan (and no - I don't buy the 'no boil' either). Just add a little more liquid to your sauce or it's not even necessary if doing a vegetarian lasagne with all of the liquid coming out of the vegetables. Seal tight with aluminum foil and bake away. Hot noodles are so difficult to work with - burned fingers anyone? and yet another pot to clean.

Making a strawberry-rhubabrb pie....do you peel rhubarb?

Get rid of the leaves and any root and chop away! No need to peel.

Crazy chili

Good luck! How can you not like chili?? All due respect though - your ingredients sound great!

Crazy chili

I haven't read all of the replies yet, so maybe these are a repeat -

Grape jelly
Cocoa powder
Dried chilies (whatever chilies I find on sale, or are growing, and I can't use them all right away, I thread them up and let them dry in my kitchen, hanging off of a coat hanger. I'll pull one down and add it to whatever I'm needing some heat for)

"500g (1lb) strawberries, washed, hulled & halved"

Strawberry curd!?! I'm sorry that I can't give you a definitive answer on the weight, sequence, etc' however, it will be delicious!

What are you baking these days? May 2012

Just made these - the first time I've ever made curd. I think there's an omelet in my near future.

pork enchiladas - green sauce or red sauce?

I always use green for pork and chicken. Red I use for beef

Which Two Cuisines for the Rest of your Life?

The USA has only 61K pizza places and only 41K Chinese restaurants?? Really?? I'm not doubting your research, I'm just shocked.

I think two (2) cuisines would be very difficult to chose. So I could probably live with South American, Mexican, Guatemala cuisine for a very long time and be happy however I know I'd get a craving for pizza, and pumpkin pie, and meatloaf, and apple fritters, and mashed potatoes, and, and, and.

Do you have family/friends who don't appreciate good home cooking?

Yes, but I've also had the opposite happen - serve a guest the simplest of spaghetti and garlic toast, or scrambled eggs and bacon and they gush like you've created the meat, sauce, milled your own wheat and slaughtered your own pig as well . . .both are embarrassing. I just cook for what I know I'll enjoy and move on.

WHAT'S FOR DINNER #138? (THE WEEK AFTER THE HOLIDAY) [old]

Yep - in AZ too. Had leftover vegetarian tacos w/ leftover strawberry rhubarb pie. Not too hot to actually cook yet but too tired to make the effort. Pie was made on Saturday when we had that wicked cold wind blow through.

Anything good at the local casinos?

We're happy with the brunch at Talking Stick Casino - everything from Asian soup to smoked salmon, a crepe and omelet station to fresh sorbet station (try the prickly pear fruit sorbet!)

I need your creative ideas for hot dogs!

http://www.food.com/recipe/sonoran-hot-dog-404097

This is the works! Otherwise - slice them up thin and saute them before your sauce for spaghetti.

Doritos taco anyone?

Tried one just the other day - DS's treat. Quite tasty. Salty but tasty. Haven't had TB in ages but it was very good. I'd try it again.

Great Mexican near airport?

No margaritas at Carolina's and I don't know if they're open that late.

Slightly shocking Kraft dinner variation

Tuna noodle casserole w/ some frozen peas mixed in and panko and butter toasted on top. Yum!

What's for dinner #133 [old]

Tuna noodle casserole w/ what was in the pantry and frig. Actually quite yummy and glad I have milk for tomorrow's oatmeal Refused to go to the market - I think the cold spell has broken although there's 36" of new snow up North and roads are closed.

Breakfast that knocks your socks off

I was right there with you until the sauerkraut - I dearly love that fried crispy of course, BUT not for breakfast!

Battle Wounds

Still have two band-aids on my left hand from chopping. No, really, I have sharp knives and great cutting boards but I'm inclined to move the first aid kit from the bathroom to the kitchen. God, love me! Stopping a stem of blood flow is getting to be a chore.

What's for dinner #133 [old]

Colder than @$&(&( - chicken and dumplings. BRRR! Drug out the long johns and actually turned on the heat for the first time in over a month. Mom's recipe for the dumplings.

What are your favorite crackers?

Triscuits. DS loves the black pepper and olive oil. I don't like the less sodium ones. They're too sweet. There is a club cracker that eludes my memory but it's buttery and very good. I've bribed co-workers with those/
