Christmas to New Year's Trip to BA--Food Choices?
Hey Charly Bear, theres been some good places recomended and really none bad but there are certainly the tourist hot spots appearing. Remember that places like Bar Uriarte and especially La Cabrera are almost 100% tourist dominated. I would recomend for really great food the following. Cafe San Juan is excelent, the porcions are huge and very very tasty. Resto is perfect for a slower paced lunch, they really understand food and i how to present it. 647 Dinner Club, really spectacular looking place with great food and super tasty cocktails. And lastly for Japanese, the Nikkei association in San Telmo, simple surroundings but excelent sushi.
First Time in NYC-Looking For Restaurant Recommendations!
I would agree with staying away from the indians on E.6th Street as the quality is not good. I have a theory that all the food food comes out of one kitchen linked to all the restaurants by a tunnel..because no matter which one i eat in it all tastes the same!
Club 647, Buenos Aires--a dissent
This place is really getting talked about now, when i originally reserved i thought i had found a little secret...obviousely not.. I ate in 647 Club with 3 friends about 6 weeks ago and it was superb. We did all eat the meat dishes though which are generally raved about so maybe no suprise there. The place looks very glamorous which sort of shocked us after arriving and finding from the outside what looked like an old crumbling building.
We ate the tart tatin, sweet breads and the carpacio followed by rib eyes and lamb, all cooked perfectly and full of flavour. In argentina we found it was always best to stick with the meat which was always incredible as opposed to the fish which we always found at best acceptable.
50 Best Dishes in New York
Do not forget Nobu where the food lives up to the hype. The miso cod is there is excellent and should definately be on your list of the 50 best dishes in New York.
Diiner after matinee at Walter Kerr theater
Ok this one is not so near but its very good, Daniel's at 60 E. 65th St. (bet. Madison & Park Aves. I had the extreme pleasure of dining at Daniel in early November. Without a doubt, this was the one the finest experiences in a restaurant anywhere. Service was beyond belief, the food stellar and the new dining room decor was spectacular.
Best $80-$100 meal in the City?
We ate at babbo for $100 and our dinner was wonderful. The food, service, atmosphere and wine were excellent. My major complaint with Babbo is the lack of effectiveness in the reservation system which is caused by the archaic phone menu system and poor representation when you get through to an operator after redialing for over an hour.
