My Visit to Toronto

Harbord Room or House? HH is a pub.

Where to buy tamales in Toronto?

emporio latino on augusta, five or six kinds, ready to steam, about $2 each.

Danforth Restaurants - Baby Friendly (Globe?)

My first reaction was no-way-Jose, but the washrooms iirc have diaper-changing stations, so they must. A bit upmarket for kids, tho.

Anywhere loud would work, someplace a screaming baby isn't going to cause too big a scene.

Terroni

Pizzeria Libretto

(inexpen) dinner - Annex , Bloor-Yorkville, ideas?

Bistro Tournesal? Haven't been in years but used to be OK.

I was in there one day and she was ranting at another customer about the "g*dd*mn internet" and how dare people write about her. Uh, interesting character.

Late lunch / tea in Yorkville

The tea at Moroco was $45 a head when I was there. Not much to it, the very small cup of hot chocolate that comes with it is $10 by itself. Can you get food at that time at the Roof Lounge?

Sushi then U2

Yuzu was good when it opened. Probably be empty, too.

Are you planning on making reservations for a specific number of people to eat dinner or are you just showing up and "mingling"?

lunch counters in toronto

Gale's Snack Bar. $1.35 cheeseburgers!

dim sum downtown - Forestview vs Rol San?

One too many double-negatives there. Are you saying that seeing Chinese people in Chinese restaurants downtown is not that unusual or that it is unusual? And the "opposite"?

dim sum downtown - Forestview vs Rol San?

Has the quality improved At Noble? Rainbow was some of the worst (but cheapest!) dim sum I've experienced either downtown or the suburbs. Nasty frozen ****.

Suggestions, please (not too expensive): Portuguese, Greek, Korean, bistro, etc. in Toronto

Near the hotel: Kenzo Ramen (Japanese/Korean) and Salad King (Thai) - cue the usual CH "authentic" crowd.

You're close to Baldwin Village, two blocks of casual restaurants with patios, a few worth checking out: Yung Sing Pastry, Bodega.

It's right next to Chinatown and Kensington Market where you'll find Patty King (Jamaican), Jumbo Empanada (Chilean), Amadeus (Portuguese), Torito (tapas), La Palette (French), Urban Herbivore (veggie) and a block north is the new Caplansky's (deli).

Lots of Greek on the Danforth a short subway ride away. They all taste the same to me. A bit touristy, but, hey you're a tourist!

Avoid the abundance of cheap sushi you'll find all over downtown around the university.

Finally! Some good news. Add these openings to your "To-Do" list.

Construction on Oh Boy stopped months ago.

N'Awlins Jazz Bar & Grill

All those spots on King are geared at tourists and theatre-goers (ie they get away with serving less than stellar food).

Petit Thuet is on the ground floor of the hotel at 1 King West. Small French/Alsatian cafe. Excellent pastries. And not expensive (still relatively unknown).

New Bilan---can anyone encourage me with a recent experience---that it's safe to eat there?

I've been in recently. It's perfectly OK once you get inside. The owner and servers are very friendly and the food's great. Agree it looks very sketchy, but then look where you are! Lots of food for about $10. I like their lemon chicken and the chapati are good, too.

University & Queen Nieghbourhood.... Lunch, Nice but not over the top?? Need Help

Don't know about John's Italian's panini but their pizza is pathetic. Had one in the spring, a "small" 10-inch "pie" that I swear came on a cheap store-bought crust (No Frills? President's Choice?). Not much topping, cheap cheese. 16 bucks plus tax! Nice looking patio but that's it. The biggest tourist trap on Baldwin imho.
