Is it necessary to brine a turkey before roasting?
Ahhh..thanks! It's good to know. So really no difference with brining or not. I guess I'll just do Ina's Turkey this year for the family. So I have your stamp of approval for Ina's Oven Roast Turkey recipe?
Is it necessary to brine a turkey before roasting?
All,
Searching for Thanksgiving Roast Turkey recipes. I've seen recipes that just call for salt/pepper/unsalted butter before roasting and brining turkey 24hrs before roasting. I'm wondering is it necessary to brine before the roast. The two particular recipe I'm looking at is:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/perfect-roast-turkey-recipe4/index.html
and
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/good-eats-roast-turkey-recipe/index.html
What do you think? The first one is Barefoot Contessa's recipe that don't call for brining and the the second is Alton Browns recipe that call for a 24hr brine.
Thanks for all tips and info!
What's a good seafood restaurant for a day trip to Boston?
All,
Doing a 1 day trip to Boston. What would you say is "THE" seafood restaurant to try? The reason why I say seafood is because Boston is known for the Lobster and clam chowder? Ok, if not seafood, then ANY good restaurant I can take my girlfriend and say "This is what Boston is about!".
Thanks for any advice!
Romantic Valentines day dinner with salsa band?
All,
I'm looking for a romantic restaurant for Valentines day that has great food and hopefully a salsa band that me and my love can dance the night away. Any suggestions? I was thinking of Son Cubano but we go there all the time so i want something new.
5 "Must Have" cookware?
All,
Would like to know the 5 "Must Have" cookware you might suggest I buy for me. When I first got my apt, I didn't think that I would cook much, so I ended up buying the cheap non stick stuff and they are literally falling apart.(scratches, handles coming loose etc...)
Doing some research and seems like All Clad is the way to go. What do you think. Basically, I would like 5 essential or "must have" pots&pans to build upon. I already have a beloved 12" cast iron skillet(but I only used that for steaks and meat).
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Sit down in Chinatown?
Could be, never tried it there, maybe next time. I normally go to NoodleTown around 3am after out drinking.
How to make my girlfriend learn/appreciate/love cooking?
Well, its been 8 months since my last post, and I am proud to announce that my girlfriend has started to cook WAAAAYYY better now. To the point where I'm surprised at how good her food comes out. She is a very great girlfriend and I guess I just came to accept the fact that she is not a "food snob" and slowly try to introduce her to different types of food. I guess before and even now, my "beef" with the whole thing is, when I go out to different restaurants, my friends and I always get different foods and we all try and enjoy the different dishes, but with my girlfriend she contestantly gets the "SAFE" dishes and kinda ruins the fun enjoyment of going to different restaurants and trying differnt cuisens.
Tapas Bar in Queens/Forest Hills?
All,
Wondering where i should take my girlfriend tonight for dinner? Wanted something different, was thinking of tapas and sangrias.
Any ideas? I'm in Forest Hills but willing to drive.
Thanks!
Sit down in Chinatown?
For a quick meal/lunch, you can't beat Wing Wong or Big Wong on Mott Street. A lot of people suggest NY Noodletown, but NO WAY can Noodletown beat Wing Wong or Big Wong on BBQ Roast Pork or Duck w/rice or noodle. They are the best in Chinatown. Whenever I'm down in Chinatown, I always try to make a quick run for its roast pork over rice.
How to pick a good WOK?
All,
Wondering what you all recommend on buying a 12" wok? I don't want any non stick kind. What brand, material should I look for?
Thanks!

How to make my girlfriend learn/appreciate/love cooking?
Thank you all for your reply! I really appreciate the comments, and from reading, I believe you are all right! I should just give it time, and let her go on her own pace. Until then, i'm going to continue to be the CHOWHOUND of the relationship.
Where Can I find Horchata?
Wait? Sorry for being ignorant, but is Horchata the white milky drink or the red kinda tart drink?
How to make my girlfriend learn/appreciate/love cooking?
yeah I guess that's what it is! I'm very thickheaded myself to not understand why she doesn't have the love for food! She is the type of person to just order Pad thai or just friend rice whenever we go to a Thai or Chinese rest. (sigh!)
How to make my girlfriend learn/appreciate/love cooking?
All,
I was never much of a cook when I was living at home.(my mom was the best cook EVER!) But when i moved out, I started to cook, and not for nothing, my cooking was not that bad. I owe it to the love of food. Guess, when you love food, you should know what good food should taste and you pick things up along the way.
BUT for some reason, my girlfriend(who now lives with me) cannot cook for the life of her, and I can't figure out why? I even tried to stop cooking as to promote her to cook, but she is just so "retarted" in the kitchen, I get annoyed. (she is not a food person BTW)
