Dessert??
Does anyone know if there is a place in the DC area that is akin to Vaccaro's? Closest I found was Kafe Leopold in Georgetown.
ISO: Best Ramen in DC/VA/MD area?
Ren's is reopening in Wheaton. The signs are up, and it is supposedly opening in a month or so.
Fernet Branca
I believe Calvert Woodley by the Van Ness Metro Stop has it - they have it listed on their website...
What's up with the price of Plymouth gin?
I just bought it for 17.99 at the Montgomery County MD DLC Stores (On Sale), regular price is something like 22. Too bad it's so far away, but if you're ever in the DC area it may pay to stop in...
A classic girly drink?
I think the classic French 75 is Gin, Lemon Juice, Sugar/Syrup, and Champagne but that version sounds really tasty!
A classic girly drink?
Here's three that may work - All taste great, a little on the sweet side, and are served in a cocktail glass.
1. If you watch "Mad Men" Betty Draper always seems to order a Gimlet. Can't get much more classic than that.
2. Classic Daiquiri's work as well, although it's getting a bit chilly for the summer drinks now. Just make sure you use fresh squeezed lime juice - world of difference.
3. Last Word Cocktail: 1 part each Gin, Lime Juice, Green Chartreuse, Maraschino. Shake with Ice and strain.
Alton's punch episode
I saw it, and can't wait to make the Cape Fear Club Punch. Now I just need an excuse...
where can i buy crayfish?
One of the vendors down at the Maine Avenue Fish Market was selling live ones when I was down there this weekend.
Please Rec Bakery in DC or NOVA for Cake
Heidelberg did the cake for my wedding, it was great. They also did a chocolate Groom's cake which was also pretty awesome, and it went in no time. Plus if you go on the weekends they grill German Sausages out front :)
Philly Hound Looking for Good Beer and Grub near Georgetown
The Moules Fromage Bleu is indeed fantastic, great beer list and atmosphere too.
Law school grad dinner w/ vegetarian options near Metro?
Second Founding Farmers. Especially if people in the group like cocktails, and to be honest, what lawyer doesn't? :)
Prime Rib in Baltimore
I was at the DC location back in '05, and I have to say that the posted review would have been spot on there as well. A memorable and enjoyable meal (especially the bone in prime rib).
"Recession Spirits"
Got to say it. If you don't like the taste of Tanqueray or Beefeater (imo the "ginny" gins) maybe gin isn't your thing?
What can I do with vanilla vodka, besides give it away?
2 parts vanilla vodka
1 part white cranberry juice
Splash of cointreau
Splash of Lime Juice
Shake with Ice and Strain into a cocktail glass.
Food and Wine Festival
Did anyone go to the National Harbor Food and Wine Festival last year? How was it? I'm thinking of buying tickets for this year...
sandwiches in upper Northwest?
Morty's (Used to be called Krupin's) is pretty good for sandwiches. They are in Tenleytown.

Butcher/Baker/Fishmonger near Wheaton?
Thanks for all the Recs! I'll have to try them out :) In terms of bakers, my number one thing is getting good baguettes and other bread, then on to the sweet stuff. I'm just moved in and I'm pretty psyched to try out all of the (what looks like) great little hole in the wall places, only done Navra Thai and EPR so far. Both great btw...
Butcher/Baker/Fishmonger near Wheaton?
Hey all. I just moved into Wheaton, and I'm looking for recs for a good fishmonger, butcher, and baker hopefully nearby. I used to use Wagshal's in Spring Valley as my go to butcher, and a small fish market in Chevy Chase DC (forget the name). I have a car so the range isn't a huge problem, but I'd like stuff a little closer to home. I've been to the H'mart btw and I think that may satisfy the Fishmonger part of the equation, but if anyone has a better rec let me know!
King Cake in DC/Arlington
Second Gambino's, they are awesome (If you don't mind the diabetic coma afterwords). I think it's just plain wrong to get a king cake that is made this far up north. Order from N.O.!
Pre-mixing Negronis?
Did you store the pre-mixed drink in the refrigerator? If you simply poured it into a glass you wouldn't have the water from melting ice and hence the drink would be stronger. Also if you stored it in the frig and stirred it with ice as per the norm, the pre-chilled mix would have melted less ice, and once again it would have tasted stronger.
Orange Bitters- where to purchase locally?
Calvert Woodley by the Van Ness Metro carries Regan's orange bitters.
Creme de Violette in DC
I actually picked up Maraschino (Luxardo) at Ace when I was there to get the Violette :) I think you can also find it at Montgomery County DLC stores.
Creme de Violette in DC
Does anyone know where to find Creme de Violette liquor in DC? I'm trying to make a genuine Aviation Cocktail and can't seem to find the stuff. So far I've tried the MoCo liquor stores, and Calvert Woodley - no dice. Anyway rather then drive all over town I thought I'd ask y'all first. Thanks!!
