London: Fun, lively dinner and lunch spots?
What about Brawn for sunday lunch? Or the Canton Arms in Stockwell? Both laid back but VERY casual. Both have the lively vibe.
London - Next Week - Trendy & Fun
Koya seems to be the place to be, in Soho - queues out the door. I agree with all the above, plus Burger and Lobster is very "trendy" at the moment but not necissarily young or cool. Is the Young Turks still running? If so that would be a good bet (but I have a feeling it was only due to continue until the end of the month). Or Duck Soup in Soho. Otherwise if you want proper young person hangouts I guess you'd want to be heading over East or Dalston - but I'm not cool enough to have my fingers on the pulse! Pizza East does decent priced pizzas, burrata, charcuterie. Also Pret a Diner is just about to start if you want something different? oh and Brixton market for cheap dining at stalls and BYO places.
16 Days in Provence and the proposed Itinerary and Restaurants
has anyone mentioned Chez Bru in Egylieres? Or Oustau de Baumaniere in Les Baux? Or La Cabro d'Or also in Les Baux? worth checking out. Also I dont know how many of you here are but my mum rents out her house in Paradou(sleeps up to 10, swimming pool), feel free top get in touch if you are interested as it sounds like a good area fr your base

Here are a few more:
Bistrodu Paradou - it is different at lunch, call them and they will tell you what's on the menu o each day
Mas Du Capon - try book in advance as I found it hard to get a able last time I was there
Cabro D'or michelin dining in beautiful surroundings in Les Baux, up th road from the Bistro. I ha a very special meal here - my husband propsed on the top of the fortress on Les Baux and we Went here later. Very romanic - make sure to sit on the terrace
Oustau de Baumniere - aother mchelin star, very expensive, vry beautiful in Les Baux also.
La Place - in the square in Maussane, i think it has a star? Lovely staff, ask for a table in the square
Bistro Decoverte in St Remy is small and quaint, great steak tartare, great manager
Jean Luc Rabanel in Arles is skilled cooking but the 13 courses was too decedant - I couldnt finish them.
Istanbul
Hi Greedy Girl - I recognise you from the London board, I think you are a fellow South Londoner!
I think I have whittled my selection down to the below:
27th May - Zubeyir (Kebab)
28th - Antiochia (modern)
29th Saros? or Galata Fish Grills? (fish)
30th Ciya
As I only have 4 nights I want to make them count! So hope this wil be a god cross section of meals. Apparentl Abracadabra is closed.
Hope you enjoy it too!
Istanbul - so much choice, so little time! 4 restaurants that showcase this city?
I am just beginning a search as i am arriving in instanbul in 2 weeks with my father and brother and have been salavating at the sound of all the lovely restaurants.
I am staying for 4 night, two in Beyoglu, then two on the Asian side. I would love some advice on where not to miss. We all LOVE fish, we arent fussy with any food types, and i would like turkish fare so i am not bothered about modern european cuisine or asian fusion, it would be great to mix it up , so with casual places and restaurants. We don't need glamour or fine dining, we all prerfer more authentic or edgier funky places where locals eat. Oh and I am obsessed with aubergine (eggplant), just thought I'd throqw that in too.
So far from my search i like the look of the following and would love opinions on them, and whether i need to reserve a table. I need to pick 4, and at the moment i cant tell which ones I should pick, I would really appriciate help:
Antiochia
Abracadabra (although i read that bad review so have been put off slightly)
Balikci Sabahattin
Beyti
Cibalikapi
Ciya
Doga
Galata Bridge Fish Grills
Korfez or Poisedon (is it worth it? i am not going with my husband so dont need a romantc experience!)
Refik
Zubeyir
lunch ideas
pandeli
smyrna
tarihi selim usta sultanahmet
hayores
doyuran lokentasi
are any of these places on the Asian side? I would like to not have to travel back into town on the two nights we are there
thanks in advance!

A couple lunches and dinner in Covent Garden/Soho and Tower areas of London?
If you are in Southwark then I'd strongly recommend the Anchor and Hope. I've been to Laughing Gravy a few years back and it wasn't anything I'd write home about, wheras the Anchor is, and is only around the corner. Also in the area is Wright Brothers up nr London Bridge (less than 10 mins walk), which serves lovely seafood. May be worth stroolling uyp there Saturday afternoon as Borough Market will be on - the best food market in London.
For lunch the next day in town, I'd go Boca Di Lupo for great Italian pasta, or Great Queen Street for excellent english food at great price.
I'm no expert on Indian food, but I did just try Dishoom, and loved it.
Tower of London area - Magdelen is a lovely french restaurant, or More is on the same street. Otherwise there is a new Italian that is meant to be great on Bermondsey Street called Zucca - anyone got any feedback on it? I really want to check it out.
Saturday dinner - you could go for a set menu somewhere to bring your cost down, great ones I've recently had include Trinity (Clapham, so may be too far for you), or Joel Roubouchon. Alternatively Terroirs, Les Deux Salons, Hix Soho, Bistro Bruno Loubet should all come in around that price range and will be good food in lovely surroundings.
As you are here in March the St John's hotel and restaurant will be open by then - it may well be worth booking in there early as I'm expecting it will be very popular - very tasty British food.
Comfort Food Clerkenwell? [London]
I am organising a chritmas lunch for myself and 7 others for the 11th December. We all come from different side of London, so decided that Clerkenwell may be a good central option.
We don't want to eat a christmas dinner, and woiuld like to be somewhere laid back and relaxed, more like a pub with great food? Or close to a nice pub to lounge in with full bellies! We can do either a late lunch or a dinner.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Best Options for Game in Central London - end of November
I have seen Grouse on he menu at the Anchor and Hope and at Great Quenn Steet in the last 2 weeks. It is 24 quid though. There wer loads of other game options and you can eat there for 40 per head
Montpellier and surrounding areas - Seafood?
I will be in Montpellier for 2 days and would love to find some great restaurants - I will have been in Provence for 10 days so ready to eat light, fresh food. Someone has recommended Le Grillidan, any thoughts? Also we have a car - last time I went to Sete and although I had some lovely oysters, I didnt like the place itself. Any other suggestions of nice seafood places either in Montpellier or nearby? And the good beaches? thanks in advance
looking for 1 day cooking class in London?
I'm going to one called Kitchen in London, not til October though so can't report back just yet
First Time in Provence - nr. St. Remy de Provence/Avignon
i visit this area reguarly. Here's my imput:
Bistro du Paradou - totally agree with mangeur
La Place in Maussane
Chez Bru - Egualieres
Chateaux Estoubon - nr Fontvielle - just opened their restaurant this summer in their grounds
Bistro Decouvert - St Remy
Hammeaux - Les Baux
L'estagne (sp?) in St Remy - fruit de mar restaurant if you get sick of all the meat!
Oustau de Baumanière - les Baux
La mirande - Avignon - thy do lovely cookery courses here
All are different prices for differing budgets and experiences.
Arles market and St Martin du Crau are the better markets and certainly less touristy and clostrophobic than St Remy. They are also much cheaper. There is a nice little cafe on the main road of St Martin du Crau that does a plat du jour at about 12 euro for 3 courses - very good value. The was also a fab fish restaurant I went to in Arles - seemed to specialise in Bouilabesse but I dont know the name - it is up behind the bull ring on a narrow side street.
enjoy!
Olive oil tasting in Provence
i visit this area frequently and can confirm their oil is lovely. Next time you vist try Chateau Estoublon and Mas des Barres too. Interestingly Chateau Estoublon have opened a restaurant too with a very reasonably priced 25euro set menu, they produce wine too which you can sample from the wine list.
(London SE5) Fantastic Italian in Oval (No, I'm not on drugs)
i live in Oval too - check out the Canton Arms nr Stockwell for amazing food at decent prices £4-7 for starters)
will be checking out this place soon!
Help with a dinner in London!
for that price level I know Bob Bob wouldbe way too £££. At 15-20 I would say g oto one of the Vietnameese restaurants up the Kingsland Road, or go to Tayabs nr Old Street for indian food as both areas are near funky bars. In central town there is a south indian restaurant - I think it i called Ragams (? am i wrong?) - behind charlotte street. you can bring your own booze to all of these I think (maybe not Ragams) so it keeps the overall cost down. In Soho you could go to the Busaba Ethai, it is a chain but I think it is always tasty food. Or wht sabout sampling fish and chips? Again there is a bring your own bottle place on Waterloo Road (search these threads - it is meant to be one of the best in London - Masters Fish and Chips)and it is round the corner from some nice bars (Jakks under the arches, or Cubanas), and a strole away from the river.
Lisbon for bank holiday - views on Bocca?
oh, and also Alma - any opinions? I have sunday night to still book a restaurant for. Is JA a Mesa more of a lunchtime place? Can you tell I am massively excited about my trip!!!!!
Lisbon for bank holiday - views on Bocca?
thank you all for your responses. Vinhotinto - thank you for the offer - it sounds amamzing, but annoyingly my sister and mother both get seasick, even on pedalos, so unless there is a taxi route there, they won't go.
I have just read n article in the Times celebrating the restaurant JA Masa - I checked out the website but it isnt in english so I dont understand it, I dont suppose you can tell me if it is open sunday or monday of easter weekend?
Help -- in London now with teen son -- need two dinner places and lunch
i cant recall the name of the place but there is a restaurant opposite the Bluebird on the kings road that my little brother used to love - i havent ben but it had ladders you had to climb to get to your table - guessing the food isnt amazing but it is quite quirky, so he may appriciate that? can anyone recall the name?
Eight over eight is off the Kings Road too - I havent been for about a year bu it was always consistently good service and tasty food whe i used to go - pan Asian style food. The website says it had a fire - does anyone know if it has re opened?
toms kitchen could be a good call too? it is informal but decent food and a nice crowd.
or benihana for a teppan table - a bit of theatre for a teenager.
The Pigs Ear is a nice pub just off th Kings Road.
Anyone been to Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote? [London]
yes i love i there an go about once a month. rude staff though and it is a quick turn over - they wont let you sit til all your party is there. Get there early as there is sometimes a queue.
ISO Fois gras in London
there is still a stand ion borough market selling foie gras, pate and the liver too, his stall is just opposite the ginger pig.
Lisbon for bank holiday - views on Bocca?
can i also add that we all LOVE seafood too.
Lisbon for bank holiday - views on Bocca?
Hello Chows!
I am heading to Lisbon for the Easter holiday with my mother and twin sister. We will be staying for 4 nights, so I am looking for a combination of places` to eat for lunch and dinner.
My mum is pretty young and open to new, funky and young places too, and we all shy away from traditional/stuffy places and also places that pile your plate too high. We'd like one special place, too, but we want atmosphere and buzz too.
I have read the other threads and wanted to see what you think of my shortlist? I also wondered if you could comment on which place is best on which night/time of day.
What time do most people eat in Lisbon?
And also, as it is Bank Holiday, will places be closed? Or is there a specific place that is great on the bank holiday?
Traditional
Bonjardim - is this best for lunch?
Ramiro
Special
Bocca - I haven't seen any reports on this, has anyone been?
Bica do Sapato - I read that I should book the cafe part instead?
XL - again not seen anything about this place on the board
Young, funky
Galeto - is this best for breakfast?
Oliviers
Pap Acorda - is the service really that rude?
Sinal Vermelho
how am I doing?
thanks,
Sunday dinner south London
The Canton Arms serves food til 4.30pm, Stockwell. I went to Trinity on a sunday i Clapham, the food and service was wonderful and they are open on the evening. The Pigs Ear off the Kings Road good be a good call.
Stuck - High St Kensington? and Stockwell... [London]
Hi All, thank you for all suggestions - the client cancelled on me in the end but I will keep these all in mind for when we re arrange x
Stuck - High St Kensington? and Stockwell... [London]
change of plan, the client now wants somethin low key and relatvely quick - any casual suggestions for one course?
Canton Arms [London]
I'm local to the area and am breathing a sigh of releif - finally a pub worth going to in Stockwell. I went back last night expecting it to be quiet but the dining room was almost full. They still don't have a coffee macheine but I am told it is on its way. Ate a pork chop with an olive tapenade -generous portion and very succulent (why, when I do chops do they dry out so much?). Went last sunday too and had Hereford beef - beautiful meat but wanted a yorkshire pud too and they weren't serving them.
Stuck - High St Kensington? and Stockwell... [London]
I never ever go to this end of town - I am taking a client and my boss, and I have about 35 a head for lunch, inc service, any suggestions?
Also - has anyone been to the Canton Arms in Stokwell yet?
