Palumbo's Pizzeria in Highland Park.

Italian Pie Shoppe is a quick jaunt down the road as well. Best deep dish around, and the thin ain't shabby, either.

NY style pizza?

I hear that. Suffered through several months in NYC a few years back; there isn't a decent burrito on the entire island of Manhatten. But you learn to make do.

That's right -- the only occasion they serve food that I'm aware of.

Our State Fair 2011: it's the Best State Fair in our State!

The one certainty for me is that I'll be having a Gizmo sandwich (machinery hill, near the beginning of the Sky Ride). Loose meat (pork and beef) sandwich with red sauce and melted mozz. Mmmmm....

Breakfast burrito from the Mexican place whose name I can't remember -- across from the baby animals barn. Reliable breakfast, every time.

Heard good things about pizza fries at Luigi's near the grandstand. Might give that a run.

Curds/Martha's are, in my eyes, best for sharing -- a couple of each go a long way (and don't fill you up) -- and yeah, once Martha's aren't hot, they're no good.

The Kitchen Window has a pretty solid paella...which is always hard to find in the TC.

Blackbird suing Heidi's over fire [moved from Minneapolis-St. Paul board]

Not necessarily the case at all. By the same token, Heidi's insurance (assuming they were up to date and carried appropriate coverage) should cover the damages.

Best High End Money No Object Steak Dinner in MSP??

Just FYI -- Manny's is not a chain. Owned by a restaurant group (Parasole), but it's the only outlet.

I think Manny's/Cap Grille/Ruth's Chris are a matter of personal preference -- all excellent. Murray's, much as I love the steak sandwich at lunch and the atmosphere, doesn't quite stack up.

City Pages - Best of 2011

Shorty & Wag's for best soul good was a surprise for me. Used to love the place, but if memory serves, the menu has narrowed significantly over the last few years -- most significantly, they don't offer ribs anymore, I don't believe.

Forum?

Bummer in that there was at least a restaurant in that beautiful, long-vacant space...but my one experience there was entirely middling, not unlike shadowfax's.

Maybe Mick's will come back. :)

Any New Lunch Places Near US Bank Building in DT Minneapolis?

Not new and not as close as other restaurants, but Vincent has to be the best lunch deal in town (and certainly is in the argument for best restaurant): $12.95 for two courses of lusciousness. I defy anyone to find a better downtown deal.

Ideas for a post-curling club happy hour in st. paul?

I've got the best solution: go to the real St. Paul Curling Club and tuck yourself into some pitchers of Labatt's at the bar upstairs and watch the evening leagues. You'll pay less, watch (and talk) curling, and you have the option of bar food as well.

Bad service in the Twin Cities [Moved from MSP board]

Co-sign -- both on LBV and waitstaff in the Twin Cities generally.

MSP - Grand Avenue

Cheeky Monkey, on Selby, is brand new and getting relatively solid reviews thus far -- check the Cheeky Monkey thread.

Cafe Latte is another Grand Avenue standard for sandwiches/soups/desserts.

MSP - Cooking Classes

I took a class at Cook's and agree -- very fun and I learned a couple of tricks. Probably not stuff you couldn't learn elsewhere, but the class itself was a blast. Went with a few friends, had a few cocktails and a nice meal...good times.

That said, the class wasn't particularly challenging (nor was it designed to be) -- it was a scotch and steak class. I would think I would learn a lot more at a class on a subject with which I had no experience -- rolling sushi, say.

Bottom line: you're probably going to have fun, particularly if you're going with a few folks. If you choose your class wisely, it will probably also be informative.

Lunch Powerhouses (MSP)

Vincent also has a solid daily omelet, and there's always the Vincent burger, which is, essentially, a gourmet jucy lucy...short rib added to the patty, gouda in the middle, I believe. Whatever it is, it works. Really well.

MSP Take Out and Delivery

You're not wrong -- delivery in the Highland area is sadly, pretty weak. For good-bad Chinese food, I love China One on University -- but I doubt they deliver to Highland. Might be worth a shot, though.

Korean in MSP?

I have to wonder about the law as well -- there are fondue places with gas at the tables.

Can't argue much with that list.

I believe they do, if I remember correctly.

You also can't go wrong with mini donuts and hot chocolate, my personal favorite Gopher hockey treats.

I will once again nominate Italian Pie Shoppe for best Chicago style deep dish in town...(I don't work there, I promise).

Minneapols on Valentine's Day

"Aw, that sounds so romantic and fun and low-key."

Almost enough to make you vomit, isn't it? :)

Minneapols on Valentine's Day

You've probably already contemplated this as I'm sure it's a near-universal problem, but even if you can get reserrvations on V-Day, every decent restaurant in town will be jammed beyond belief, with attendant consequences for service, food quality, etc.

That's why my baby and I are hitting the Italian Pie Shoppe for a heart shaped pizza. :)

Broadway also has a pizza with kraut on it...I also had my doubts, but it's delicious.

Luce pizza fascinates me for its ability to either turn people wildly on or off. Personally, I'm not a fan, but I know plenty of people who think it's the best in town.

I like Cosetta's as well, although -- as I think has been noted here previously -- the quality seems to improve if you order an entire pizza. I've found the slices to be hit and miss.

Definitely give IPS a shot. I think it's preferable to Davanni's deep. I usually stick to the traditional crust at D's.

MSP: West 7th Neighborhood/St. Paul

Agreed. The place itself is a riot. It holds a special place in my heart -- was there a few springs ago and what should arrive but Lord Stanley's Cup. I had the pleasure of sipping Dom Perignon out of it -- quite the memory.

MSP: West 7th Neighborhood/St. Paul

Agreed, the fish fry is OK, nothing spectacular. Good beer, though.

DeGidio's is like your classic red checkered table cloth Italian restaurant -- it's not going to win any awards, but it's cheap and for what it is, pretty decent food.

Mancini's is a classic old-school steakhouse with a lounge in the truest sense of the term. Again, the food is nothing to write home about, but it's a fun place to eat.

Sham Rock's is the Nook's sister restaurant. The burgers are fantastic.

Italian Pie Shoppe on Grand Avenue -- perfect "stepped" deep dish crust -- thicker on the bottom, progressive thinner on the sides. Buttery and perfect. The thin crust isn't bad, either.
