Portland and Beaches for 1 Week in July - Where to go Popham Beach has the sand AND the tide pools and rushing tidal streams -- down the peninsula from Bath, which has the Maritime Museum. |

Hot milk cake must have been a Middle Western favorite -- quick to the table, tasty, never any left over to go stale (as it did quickly). |

Well, I guess you'll have to scratch Trattoria Nonna from the list. Report in Halifax paper says that their chef and front of house person are leaving and that the owners will not reopen. I think there's more to the story, but. . . Sad. |

I can speak to both Lunenberg recommendations -- Trattoria is calm, attractive, cheerful, NOT southern Italian; Fleur de Sel superb cooking, a bit twee. |

The Weaver's Way coops usually have John and Kira's products -- Mt. Airy or Chestnut Hill. |

Where can i buy delicious but light and beautiful Buche de Noel? I really lean toward The Night Kitchen over Cake. TNK 's baking is more refined and less stodgy. |

Where to Eat on the Cabot Trail If he/she was there, that was the pie. You have great pie genes; nurture them! |

Where to Eat on the Cabot Trail And up that road, across the bridge, is the Great Quiltmaker. |

Where to Eat on the Cabot Trail Oh dear -- years, I guess. Just because it's not repeatable doesn't mean it was great! (In fact, that may be part of the definition of greatness.) |

Where to Eat on the Cabot Trail Back again. . . I once had the quintessential piece of butterscotch pie at the Glenora Distillery; still warm from the oven, meringue rather than whipped cream, not toothachy sweet but caramelly. The Acadian place in Cheticamp does really well by pie, too. |

Restaurants in Campobello, Lubec, Saint Andrew area???? Look on line at Rossmount menu, if that's the kind of place you fancy. You would need to reserve . . . and fast. |

Restaurants in Campobello, Lubec, Saint Andrew area???? In Lubec, Cohill's Inn (and rooms above) is sometimes very good for pub food -- I once had good fish + chips, once a good burger, once a piece of great pie -- but it seems to "depend" . . . Home Port Inn is more white-tablecloth, reasonably good. St. Andrew's has the Rossmount Inn, which is superb, elegant, expensive: local local fresh fresh, fine wine list. |

looking for great deli or gourmet food store that does gift packages The Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop always manages to put together a delicious basketful -- always a new (or new to me) cracker, cookie, sweet. |

Where to Eat on the Cabot Trail What about the Pub in Mabou? Sometimes very good, sometimes overwhelmed. . . check out the number of cars. I've had good fish cakes and beans and gingerbread at the Distillery up the road. . . blanking on the name. I think the West side of the Cape is so beautiful with its mixture of hills and field and forest. Don't forget the Inverness Art Gallery for really good local art. |

Road Trip from Montreal to Cape Breton I looked it up -- rte. 337 is the 'mini Trail' around Cape George and a wonderful drive with a lighthouse at the tip of the Cape. |

Road Trip from Montreal to Cape Breton Maybe better to give directions as : Cribbons, up Cape George Road (rte.37?) past Lakevale! |

Thanks for the suggestions -- but the wind was so fierce that we got back on the train after our visit and went back to Mt. Airy and Earth Bread etc., which was cheerful and tasty as usual. We'll try one of your ideas on the next visit, maybe at lunch. |

What are you baking these days? Part XII [old] Mark Bittman's Apple Cake with Booze --- just as easy as it looked in the video, just as moist and long-keeping as he said it is, just as boozy and delicious (I used a mixture of calvados and bourbon for the pour-over). |

Two middle-aged ladies who want pleasant surroundings, exceptional food (not Asian) would like to walk, if possible, to dinner after visiting a friend at Magee Rehab. Osteria too far, I fear. Somewhere closer to Suburban Station? |

Is An Artist's Table still extant? I drive up the coast to St. Andrew N.B. (a stay at the Rossmount for one night's great dinner) every year, and I've had some nice meals and wine there -- but someone said that it had closed. |
