Yum Bakery vs. Pairings
Heavyweight match-up, in my opinion. Both offer outstanding, high quality food made to order. We've become huge fans of both.
Put a gun to my head and I choose Yum by a nose.....solely because of the Patty Cake.
But ask me tomorrow and I could easily choose Pairings.
Thoughts?
Amazing sushi, fun atmosphere
Thank you, Kathryn. #2 is certainly very important....we only have a few meals together so we want a fun atmosphere. We've been to Morimoto in Philly so perhaps we will look into Blue Ribbon!
Amazing sushi, fun atmosphere
Seeking recommendations with the following:
1. Amazing sushi. Cost no issue.
2. Fun atmosphere. I will be with a group of 4 on vacation so we are looking to have a great time in a lively environment.
Only sushi restaurant we have been to is Nobu. Would that even make your list?
Thanks in advance!

Bar/Wine near Craft and Gramercy Tavern
Thanks sgordon....looks amazing. We will definitely give it a shot. Can someone tell me if Gramercy Tavern has a good bar for cocktails? We plan to go to a few different places and I'm curious if this one should be on the list. Thanks!
Bar/Wine near Craft and Gramercy Tavern
Greetings! We have a dinner planned at Craft next week but our reservations are at 10:30. So, we are looking for a few nice bars / wine bars to hang out at within walking distance. We are celebrating a 40th birthday so would love some really nice spots with a great atmosphere to kill some time. Thanks to all!

Manhattan: "Kitchen Table" for 40th birthday celebration recommendation?
Greetings!
A group of 6 of us were planning to surprise a family member for his 40th birthday with a killer dining experience. My first thought was to find a restaurant with a great Kitchen Table-like offering. Does anything come to mind? Cost no object!
TIA.
Rye Delicatessen - Minneapolis
Madeline, I will ask the same request of you that I posed to Fudist.....what is the example(s)? I only read his articles and watch his show.....what do you know that you can share? Would love to be enlightened with some details.
Rye Delicatessen - Minneapolis
Well, read no further than Andrew Zimmern's review in MSP magazine. He shreds Rye with the key critique discussed here.....this place has zero flavor.
Rye Delicatessen - Minneapolis
I don't think this place has any idea of what it wants to be.
Is it a jewish deli? If so, it needs to add some serious flavor across the entire menu based on reviews above. And if it wants to be a jewish deli, why not call the smoked meat "pastrami"? People around here don't know what smoked meat is supposed to look or taste like. And you simply cannot miss with the matzoh ball soup....that dish needs to impress if you want to bring the deli crowds.
Is it an all-family restaurant? If so, that would explain the cheeseburger and patty melts on the menu. I found these menu additions a bit strange given the deli focus that the restaurant name implies.
Is it a bar? In my opinion, the bar is a bit odd. It greets you as soon as you walk in, and then there is a line for sandwich service just to your left. Who is the audience? Open until 2am? I'm curious who would be at this place and how big the crowds will be past 8pm.
I hope this place can iron out the kinks!
Rye Delicatessen - Minneapolis
Went to Rye today for lunch and it was awful. I don't know who else to describe it. Here's what we got.....
Corned Beef sandwich. This is not an exaggeration....you literally could not bite through ANY part of the corned beef. I'm talking about the meat and the fat. It was light pink in color and was virtually tasteless. NO seasoning on the meat. Seriously, I don't think a single drop of brine was used. How do you not notice this as you are carving the meat?
So, after waiting 15 minutes for anyone to come by the table (you would think someone would be making the rounds to see how folks were doing, right?), we finally flagged down a waitress. We explained and showed her the sandwich. She was very accommodating and asked if we wanted something else. We ordered the beef brisket sandwich. So....
Beef Brisket sandwich. Cooked beyond well done. Super dry and a bit chewy. Had to load up on the homemade mustard (excellent, by the way!) to give it some flavor.
Smoked Meat sandwich. Compared to the corned beef and brisket, it was amazing. On its own, we considered it to be edible. It was teetering on tasteless as well. Where is the flavor at this place?? Again, had to load it up with their homemade mustard to get any kind of taste going.
"Sea Salt" fries. Fries are pretty good. Did not see any evidence of sea salt though. Best part of the whole meal was the homemade ketchup.
Folks, the rye bread was just average.
I'm pretty shocked to read some reviews of this place and putting the food in the same universe as Bewitched and Crossroads. I want a great, local deli as much as the next guy.....but this aint it. Sure, we could have gotten a bad cut of meat......but we tried three different sandwiches and they were all poor. We are pretty easy to please and this experience was just bad. Too many great spots in Minneapolis to give it another shot.
Orlando: Most Innovative?
Greetings! I will be in Orlando next week and am hoping to dine at a restaurant that is doing some really creative stuff these days. I will be with some co-workers so hoping for a decent scene as well.
Realize I'm not providing a ton of details but I'm hoping some places come to mind as must-try's these days.
Thanks!
Babbo: Is there a 'must order' dish?
Heading to Babbo for the first time on Saturday. Is there anything on the menu that is an absolute must try?
Also, is the tasting menu a no-brainer as well?
Thanks!

Need a 2* or 3* restaurant with a casual lunch!
Hello,
I'm looking for a top tier/high-end restaurant that has a relatively casual lunch scene where a group of 4 could enjoy a kick ass lunch on a Saturday. We would love to sit at a bar and eat and watch sports on a Saturday afternoon as well.
Does any such place exist in Manhattan or have I just described something completely ridiculous? Thanks!
Best Place to Watch The Masters?
Looking for a spot with great food where we can kick back with some beers/cocktails and watch some golf next weekend. Preferably in the Midtown area.
Thanks!
Roast Beef: Maverick's vs. Wally's or other?
Looking for a recommendation for the best roast beef sandwich in the Twin Cities. We have been to Maverick's several times and just love it. I've heard about Wally's but have never been. Is anything in the same league as Mavericks?
Note: I am not a fan of Mayslacks.....way too garlicky. Arby's either.
Thanks!
N. Myrtle: Sports bar with great food?
Hello! I am looking for recommendations for sports bars with GREAT food in North Myrtle to watch the NCAA tournament in a few weeks. Needs to have lots of TV's so we can watch the game of our choice.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Mpls: In-home chefs for a dinner party?
We are thinking about hosting a dinner party for 10 at our home and would love hear recommendations for any talented, entertaining, in-home chefs that could handle all the food prep. Thanks for your help!
NYC "Tour" Ideas
For the past 3 years, a few buddies and I have made a trek to NYC to do a "pizza tour" of the best spots. We typically hit 5-6 different pizza spots and we have had a great time over the years. We are planning to return this Spring.....however, we are considering a different kind of "tour" instead of pizza.
Any thoughts as to what we should explore? Are there enough Hot Dog stops in Manhattan that are worthwhile of a "tour"? How about barbeque? Subs? Let me know your thoughts!
Nick & Eddie: WORST restaurant in Minneapolis
I accept the challenge!
It has become so much more difficult for me to tolerate poor attitudes and service these days. It seems like such an easy thing to do. Perhaps I am just getting older!
On to better restaurants!
Nick & Eddie: WORST restaurant in Minneapolis
It's now official....I truly believe Nick & Eddie is the worst restaurant in the Twin Cities. We have now given this place chance on 3 separate occasions and they have failed miserably each and every time.
We arrived at 9pm as a party of 8 after an event at Bar Lurcat (exceptional, by the way). We then waited for 30 minutes despite the place being 1/2 full. Not one effort on any part of the staff to move together tables or make an attempt to accommodate our group.
One we get seated, the airhead waiter stops by once to take a drink order. 20 minutes later the drinks arrive. 20 minutes then pass before this clown ever stops by again to take our order. We ordered several options and not one impressed. The wagyu meatloaf was dry, the poutine lacked flavor, and the pork tacos were downright disgusting with overcooked pork.
My advice: NEVER go to this restaurant. The service is an abomination and the food is mediocre. Too many other good options in the area.

I want to rent out a restaurant for 14 people!
I would like to rent out a restaurant for 14-18 people for a special event. I realize this is a small number of people but I am hoping folks may have some recommendations. We did this last year at the location across the street from Cafe Maude but it has since closed down.
Anyone know of any good spots I could call? Thanks!

Momofuku Fried Chicken....Similar experience request!
A few buddies and I came to NYC in January for a weekend of fun. We 'experienced' the Momofuku Fried Chicken lunch on a Saturday afternoon and had a great time. Best fried chicken ever despite the price tag!
We plan to take a similar trip again this January and I'm hoping to get some recommendatinos on a similar "experience" in NYC. We want to do something that is a bit different than just eating lunch or dinner at a great restaurant.
I realize this is a pretty vague request, but does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!
Piccolo
Heading to Piccolo tonight.....anyone know if they allow corkage, or if they are using wine glasses yet? Above, Latinpig mentions they were using water glasses.
If anyone has been recently, I would love to hear your recommendations on the menu. The lamb loin sounds incredible.
Mission: Fish Taco
Surprisingly, the fish tacos at Edina Grill are excellent. That's our new go-to meal after overdosing on the Turkey Burger for years.

Ngon Bistro or Heartland?
Trying to decide between these places for a birthday dinner. I have not been to either one and the menus for both look outstanding. In your opinion, which will I leave more impressed with for a special occasion dinner?
