Valentine's Day Delivery
No flowers, no chocolates - I'm looking for some good eats to have delivered to my fiance's office for Valentine's Day. Last year I had a pie delivered, which was very well appreciated. I could go that route again, but maybe there's something different I could have delivered. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Where can I find Graber Olives?

Where can I find Graber Olives?
Are you referring to a specific Pavilion's? Hollywood or Silverlake?
Where can I find Graber Olives?
I'm addicted to Graber Olives and would love to find a place that stocks them close by. Anywhere eastside (near Downtown) or even in SM? Thanks for your help!
Oh and if you haven't tried them, you must!
delicious, not-trendy, family-friendly places to eat
My very low-key, untrendy (in the best kind of way) family and I will be visiting SF next month. We are looking for some budget eats, especially around Pacific Heights, where we'll be staying. My mom loves pizza, my father is a definite carnivore, my sister loves ice cream. They are adventurous eaters so
One of the days we'll be there will be on Thanksgiving and we are looking for a place to eat for that evening as well. After some research it looks like only Tommy's Joynt is open for Thanksgiving so we've decided to go Chinese/Vietnamese. Any specific suggestions would be great.
Thank you in advance!

Romantic 30th birthday on a weekday (and a budget)
sounds great! but probably not for this wednesday as he works till about 7pm. but definitely for some other weekend!
Romantic 30th birthday on a weekday (and a budget)
agree - i have been to nook, and it's more a local neighborhoody place and not romantic..
Romantic 30th birthday on a weekday (and a budget)
all-in most likely but slightly flexible, depending on how great the food is.
Romantic 30th birthday on a weekday (and a budget)
My bf's 30th birthday falls on Wednesday of next week and I would like to take him somewhere nice but not too fancy, since i am recently unemployed. Although he would appreciate a romantic setting with delicious food, I know that he wouldn't want me to overspend.
I was wondering if there are any restaurants on the westside (Venice, Santa Monica, MDR) that might have weekday specials (maybe a Wednesday special) or other budget friendly but romantic options. I am thinking of spending less than $100 total including drinks.
mail order foodstuffs

Beijing for Two Checklist
is Dianke Dianlai as nice and cozy as Dali Courtyard? Is the lighting nice? Also, where is it exactly? I agree, the food can be hit or miss but being from the States and having never have tasted or heard of Yunnan food - Dali Courtyard was quite a pleasant surprise for me.
Beijing for Two Checklist
maybe it is just me, but hotpot seems like a big group thing - so you can enjoy a large variety of dishes? i enjoy taiwanese style hotpot with a sauce bar - does nan men shuan rou have a sauce bar?
long fu si is very rundown and not very lively. do you have a restaurant near nanluoguxiang you can recommend?
i'd rather not dine inside a mall if i can avoid it.. have any recommendations for nice hutong restaurants?
Beijing for Two Checklist
Hello!
My boyfriend (from LA) is visiting me here in Beijing and I've been trying to figure out where to go, especially since many Chinese meals are built for more than 2 people (ie, order a ridiculous amount of dishes and share at a huge table).
DUCK
I want to take him to eat Peking Duck - is Da Dong ok for two people? I have not been to Da Dong - only LiQun, which seemed like a group dining kind of place. Which is a more authentic experience -Da Dong or Made in China? I've been to LiQun, which probably is the most "authentic" downhome type place, but I'm not necessarily looking for an old-Beijing hutong type place.
YUNNAN
I really enjoy Dali Courtyard, even though people say the flavors are geared toward westerners. Dining for two seems to work fine at Dali.
DA GUI
I really enjoy this place for their ribs and other delicious dishes on their menu.
other than those listed above, I really have no clue where to go - I moved here 6 months ago so I'm still a bit clueless. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
weeknight drinks in mid-city
i'm looking for a place to meet up with a friend who works really late and only has time to hang out after 10:30pm. i'm not looking for a bar, loud music, sceney - none of that. i would guess that a hotel bar might be the best bet, but $$$ parking is a deterrent. if AOC were open late, that would have been perfect. Any recommendations? Preferably in the Mid-City area - near the Beverly Center. Thank you!

preventing a baguette from turning rock hard
i think that is precisely what happened. this time around, none of the sandwiches turned hard.
Moving to China from Los Angeles
I'm packing up and moving to Beijing next week and plan to take some dried herbs and spices with me to cook with. I am going to miss Mexican food tremendously and thought that bringing some Mexican spices might be a good idea. Are there any spices that are hard to come by in Beijing that I should be packing?
Thanks in advance!
preventing a baguette from turning rock hard
the wet paper towel seems like a plan - i'll store all of the sandwiches in a bag with something soaked in water.. or maybe some fruit. thanks for your help
need a unique lunch reco in atwater village..
i'm not a yelper but i found viet noodle bar to be bland. it's obvious that they really care about their food but the flavor is lacking.
if you are open to driving up closer to porto's - try raffi's place restaurant in glendale. really nice patio and great food.
preventing a baguette from turning rock hard
i'm throwing an evening picnic party and i've just ordered about 30 banh mi sandwiches to be picked up around 3pm. the last time i did this, the bread (baguettes) got stale pretty quickly - meaning, it was really hard by the time we were sitting down to chow. the sandwiches are made to order by the restaurant, and individually wrapped up in butcher paper but it still seems to get really hard.
there are tricks to keeping brown sugar soft.. is there a trick in keeping my delicious banh mi soft(er) so my guests can actually eat them without ripping the roof of their mouths? i plan to keep all of the sandwiches wrapped up (with the veggies on the side).
thank you for your help!
office treats!
i'll be driving from Koreatown - and I forgot all about Paris Baguette! I've had Pretzels from 3 Square and it's only ok, not great. Huckleberry is out of my price range and Amandine is a bit too far from my commute.. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

office treats!
thanks for the suggestions! interesting pastries sound good - cream puffs from beard papa's perhaps or the guava cheese pie from cafe tropical as porto's is too far of a drive. i work in marina del rey, near washington/lincoln so anything near there would be ideal.
office treats!
next friday is my last day at my current job! i would like to bring in some tasty goodies as a parting gift. i'm looking for something different from the tired standbys such as donuts, cupcakes, bagels etc..
any fun ideas?
thanks!

I love taco tuesdays at Duke's in Malibu.. it's raining today unfortunately - where are your favorite taco tuesdays? I am aware that the Spanish Kitchen has a decent one.. are there any others?
Preferably in/near downtown, Silverlake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Hollywood area?
Thanks, hounds!
Stove Top Short Rib Braise

Stove Top Short Rib Braise
Is it possible to braise short ribs without an oven? What kind of cookware would be needed? Is there any alternative to the dutch oven?
Also a tried and true delicious recipe would be appreciated. Thanks!
AmandaCooks? Anyone been?

Thinking about taking the Thai course. Some friends of mine took a HipCooks class on Thai cooking and they don't recommend it. Has anyone been to Amanda?

A Good New Years Eve cocktail?
Happy new year! We decided to go with Bundaberg Ginger Beer and Maker's Mark with a squeeze of lime. The Bundaberg added a pleasing cloudiness to the drink.. thanks for all of the suggestions!
A Good New Years Eve cocktail?

both the dark & stormy and moscow mule sound great! is there a specific brand of ginger beer you recommend?
