Dragon Beard Candy

Looking for some. Never had it but would like to give it a try. Does anyone have it in the area?

Never been to Philly...

Hi, I'm from the DC area and believe it or not I have never been to Philly. I am in the area next Saturday and I'm looking for reasonable (cheap) eats. I'm fully aware of the cheesesteak situation and I don't want to delve into that. But what other options are cheap, good and close to Logan Square? Thanks

Looking for artisanal cheese farms

Are there any good artisanal cheese farms to visit in western md or nova. Raw is a plus. Thanks!

Swinging through Austin

Wife is Mexican and I'm coming from Socal so I'm not chomping at the bit for Mexican. I was thinking maybe brisket or a good breakfast place or just a really cool bar. Thanks though.

good beer and good thin crust pizza

Beer selection at Basic is meh but the pies are great. Best I've had since I moved out here. The damn thing brought tears to my eyes b/c I forgot how good pizza is supposed to be. I was happy for a week.

Baltimore Crabs

Mike's in Annapolis is the best place to eat crabs in Maryland (besides the Eastern Shore). Just make sure that you are getting MD crabs and not gulf crabs. Almost every crab house that I've been to have been serving Gulf crabs since before 2006. They will charge extra for them so be ready.

Oyster/Seafood situation in New Orleans affected by oil spill?

It will be a good time to find out who is buying locally and who has been getting their product from Thailand. Watch out for price gouging for a cheaper product. The FDA is saying it's ok to eat but they might be getting pressure from commercial fishing lobbyists. The NOAA can only close the state water 3 miles out. I'm from MD and the price of crab jumped up there b/c some restaurants get so much down here and sell it as 'Maryland Blue Crab'.

Swinging through Austin

Hello,

I'm making my way back East from California and I would like to check out some cool places. (Bars, Restaurants, ETC) I'm not looking for anything too fancy just really good. Whats the greatest hits Austin has near the downtown area? I'm staying at the Four Seasons.

Thanks!

Blood Sausage, Boudin Noir, Morcilla, Black Pudding etc.

Anyone know where I can find some old school blood sausage? I don't know why but I've been having this crazy hankering for some.

Handcrafted Cocktails in SD

I just back from home (East coast) and went to a 20's style speakeasy in D.C. where the Sommelier/Mixoligist made his own bitters, sodas, etc. There were no signs for the bar and there was even a hole in the door that the hostess looked out of. (http://www.restauranteve.com/eamonns/PX/px_home.html) Well, the cocktails were mindblowing and the setting was perfect for relaxing with your date after a nice meal at their other restaurant. Is there anywhere in SD that does this sort of thing? Thanks again!

What is the hands down best restaurant in San Diego?

Hear, hear....

Peking Duck- San Diego?

I don't know if it's that time of year and the Christmas Story is coming back on soon but I am having a serious hankering for some Peking Duck. Does anyone know any good places for some. Thanks!

Best BBQ in San Diego?

The only decent Texas style brisket BBQ I have found is up in Oceanside is Lone Star where they actually slow smoke the brisket. The pork ribs are pretty good too. And yes they serve it with onions, pickles and white bread if you want. The real way. Don't waste your time on the sides though.

Best dish in San Diego?

Interesting article from SD magazine....

Trip to San Diego from DC

Where else have you eaten in DC?

James Beard Week- Cheap Eats?

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. I can't believe Jean-Georges is doing a Prix fixe for $28.

James Beard Week- Cheap Eats?

I'm going to NY for the James Beard Awards in May. Is there any GOOD places (under $30) to go eat in Manhattan that I should go to? Thanks!

I have been to Momofuko and it isn't half as pretentious or blown up like Market. Let me know when Market gets a James Beard Nomination as a best new restaurant. I guess their "identity crisis" worked as a concept while other places are just trying too hard.

Worst of San Diego and Most Over-rated

Barbeque is one of the few truly American styles of food. You can argue that it came from the Portugese Barbecoa or that's just cooking meat over a wood fire. Barbeque's history and many faces like the Carolina's vinegar style, S. Carolina's mustard style, Memphis style or Texas bbq all have the same thing in common and that is the smoke. A barbeque without good smoke is just an weak immitation. It's like saying that McDonald's makes great hamburgers. That's why Joey's Smoking and Famous Dave's are just immitations. BBQ is one of the only true American foods that we can trace our history back to. Everything else is either borrowed or stolen from someone or somewhere else.

First of all Market is not as "fresh" or "seasonal" as they claim. And I will leave it at that. Second, their strip mall sushi bar hits you in the face as soon as you walk in. Look at their menu is it an Asian fusion or California Modern or Fresh and Local fine dining? The weiner schnitzel is next to the Asian Pear & Persimmon salad.

Fidel's is tacky and the food is just ok.

Bety's is the way to go.

Market isn't worth the money to pay to have to eat that fake "haute cuisine food" and sit in that "ambience". Restaurants with idenity crisis aren't a real turn on for me. And if you are going to have kids with you I doubt you'll want to get gouged in a place like that.

Which 3rd Corner is better?

Oceanside or Encinitas? The menus and wine selections are similar but differnt?

San Diego Restaurant Week 2009

Went to Blanca a couple of weeks ago with a bottle of 1999 Beaucastel which the hostess took. Had a drink at the bar with my wife. When we got to the table the bottle was waiting there...ALREADY OPENED. Then I ordered a split of champagne for the two of us, low and behold the bottle came to the table again ALREADY OPENED. Love the decor and a couple things on the menu were memorable but it's a shame that the service was not there. I don't think they know how to open a bottle of wine in front of a guest so I guess they dont.

Any REAL Italian food in San Diego?

They got Trippa alla Parmigiana at Vivace's in north county. Had it last week. Slow braised goodness.

What is "Foie Gras"?

I'm wondering why restauranteurs and chefs are putting quotations on foie gras? I called Mille Fleurs and the poor hostess barely knew what Foie Gras was. Anywhere else in the free world it would be just be foie gras. What year is CA banning Foie?

What is "Foie Gras"?

I know what foie gras is but why are chefs putting "foie gras" on their menu like it's some name brand item like Gap or Bloomingdales? Is it some lame marketing ploy or is it the real deal? Or have they bowed to animal activists and came to terms with some cheap imitation of the heavenly vice know as foie.

What is "Foie Gras"?

I have seen this on some menus around here. I know Mille Fleurs has it on theirs. What is this mysterious "foie gras"? Is it an imitation? Can someone please tell me!?

Any cheap eats in Hancock park?

I'm staying at the Four Seasons on Thursday and was wondering if there was any good food a very reasonable prices (aka cheap) around Hancock Park or K Town?

Any REAL Italian food in San Diego?

What about the Four Seasons in NC? I heard their Italian restaurant have some pretty decent stuff on it?
