Does anyone out there remember Red on Beverly Blvd and in Santa Monica? I'm aching for the Chicken Chili.

I'm in Sherman Oaks and have not tried Smoke City Market.

I just Called and talked to Mike. Unfortunately his computer crashed years ago and took the recipes with it.

Oh well it was worth a try. I'm glad to at least discover a new place for some good bbq. Will stop in tonight.

Thanks Yogachik!

Thank you Carter. I had not heard of Little Fork. I'll check them out this weekend.

Greeting Chowhounders!
I'm hoping some of you recall the restaurant Red on Beverly Blvd. It was 1998 and I started working across the street in the old Liberace penthouse with a guest bathroom complete with floor to wall to ceiling mirrors, Yikes!
I walk across the street to Red to get lunch and discover the best chicken chili I've had up to now. My heart sank when the restaurant closed and my chili went with it. I've been searching the internet for years trying to find the recipe. I'm lousy at internet research and I've tried the LA Times archive on line but again I may be not searching correctly. I think I even tracked down one of the owners but never got a call back.
Does anyone out there have that recipe? Or one that even comes close to it?

Thanks!
Lon

Nice idea but I'm in the valley. See above reply. I'll certainly ck out Shamshiri sometime when I'm in that area.

Thanks that's a brilliant idea. I love Bristol Farms but rarely go there as I don't live near one. I'm calling now to see if they have them in stock and hopefully I can get there and back in time to get my other preparations done. If not, I guess it's takeout from Carousel.

Thanks, A5 Kobe!

Big gathering and I don't have a main course!

It's the day after Thanksgiving and after hosting a big family gathering I find myself hosting another big gathering tonight for Hanukkah! I'd like to serve a lamb dish but failed to get it ahead of time to marinate. Does anyone out there know where I can get pre-seasoned lamb? If I have to I can find a brisket but I'd really like to serve something different. Of course, since I'm in a pinch, I don't have to cook it myself. I'm happy to bring in from a restaurant if you have any rec's.

Thank!
Lon

Dinner in Covina near Center of Performing Arts

No. I was soooo close but opted for the special of the night, lamb chops over a pesto polenta.

As I now realize that my cousin lives nearby I will certainly go back for the pork chops.

Love Carney's. I'm starting to crave a chili-dog right now.
I've heard about the Griddle and will probably go another time as I hear their portions are huge and my sister in law prefers light breakfasts.

My brother and sister-in-law are coming to town for a few days. They have reservations at Nobu for one evenings dinner. They just want real deal good food for b/l/d the rest of the time. Does not have to be pricey just your favorite spots. They are staying at LeParc just off La Cienega.

Oops, I meant Woodfire. It's late and I'm half asleep. Either that or I'm still loopy from the mimosas :)

I'll certainly try Spitfire next time I go. We wound up at Ca Del Sol. I had no idea either of these two places served brunch. Ca Del Sol was very good and I love being out on their patio.
Thanks for suggesting Spitfire. Again will honext time.

10 Best Cakes in Los Angeles

Run don't walk to Jamaica's Cakes on Olympic Blvd just West of the 405 Fwy. I went to several bakeries looking for my wedding cake, some of which are mentioned in some of these reply's. None of them could compare with the taste of Jamaicas cakes. Rather than make one large cake I had her make small cakes as center pieces for the tables. It was beautiful. There were a couple of people at my wedding who don't like cake but the had an obligatory bite and both people told me how much they liked it and wanted her info. Also her presentation is fantastic. She brings out all the different icing flavors and several cake flavors that you arrange ahead of time then you can mix and match the flavors to create what you like.
And...she also can make vegan cakes if you like.

Searching for Cuban recipe for Arroz con Picadillo

Thanks Servorg for finding the You Tube videos. I did a You Tube search before posting to Chowhound and it kept taking me to some musicians video. I'll take a look at the link you posted. I'm sure with that and the Three Guys recipe my step-son and I will come up with something good.

Thanks!

Searching for Cuban recipe for Arroz con Picadillo

Hello Chouhounders,
My step-son is of Cuban descent and needs to bring a Cuban dish to school tomorrow. He wants to make Arroz con Picadillo. Unfortunately his grandmother does not speak enough English to be able to tell me how to make it as she, of course, does not use a recipe. I've been searching the internet but not finding much.

Can anyone out there help me?

Thanks!

Hi All,
My sister and I are always wanting to enjoy a happy hour but don't know where to go aside from Ruth's Chris (which is good but we'd like a change of pace). Please give us a little guidance.

Thanks!

Good place for dinner near Fox Center Of The Arts in Riverside

Hi Chowhounders,
My husband and I are going to see Legally Blond in Riverside (LONG DRIVE) and we would greatly appreciate any recommendation you have for us to have dinner out there. The theatre is located near Mission Inn Ave and Market Street if that's any help. We are open to any cuisine and price range (well let's not go Michellin rating here) it can be a great dive joint or a nice place with table cloths. We're just looking for a good meal in a town we've never been to before.

Thanks!

Great restaurant with patio for small wedding

Will certainly check them out. Since yours is the only reply I take it NY does not have many restaurants with patios? The only real reason I was thinking of a place with a patio is to have the wedding and reception in one location. Should I have the wedding in Central Park and have the reception at some great restauant? I which case any non patio restaurants you'd recommend?

Great restaurant with patio for small wedding

My fiance and I live in California but he's from NY. Most of our family is on the East coast so we'd like to get married in a restaurant with great food and a patio if possible that will take 30-35 people at the end of May.
Does not have to be the most upscale place but don't rule that out either. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. We're open. Thanks!
