4 days/3 nights in DC w/ preteens - need suggestions

Thanks Steve...since researching a # of threads since last week it seems like there are So many good restaurants that Chowhounds loved that have closed in Washington...SO Sad!

Christmas in Kittery

The York Harbor Inn and The Stageneck Inn up in York Harbor would be my first suggestions....both have nice ambience and The York Harbor Inn always seems to have good food. Check into Stageneck a little more....the dining room overlooks the waves crashing on the rocks just outside the window. 10-12 minutes drive from Kittery.
Anneke Jans is in Kittery and a small hip spot with delicious food and drink....not sure they would be open on Christmas but worth checking out.

Thanksgiving Dining Options in Portsmouth, NH?

If I were Matteo and looking at the list Seacoast Foodie has compiled: I would choose Blue Sky in York ....Wentworth Hotel, Common Man, Sheraton are all going to be filled with lots of families, I would envision. Blue Sky is more intimate and I personally would feel more comfortable about dining alone on a holiday there.

A quick review of River House, Portsmouth NH (formerly "The Stockpot") because I'm sure you were wondering

I've lived in Portsmouth 18 years and think the River House is a huge improvement over the Stockpot---foodwise---atmosphere---service....but then again I never go on the weekends or prime summer-time days! Give it another chance - cp

Philly to Maine- need stop suggestions 2 nights up and 2 nights back

p.s. what is "no reservations?"

Philly to Maine- need stop suggestions 2 nights up and 2 nights back

If you are in the market for a fine dining and lodging situation on your way up to Maine definitely go to the White Barn -stay at Inn and dine in their restaurant. Very memorable, great wine list. FYI something fun to check out is Peaks Island right off the coast of Portland, there is a sweet inn there ---. Back tracking to Portsmouth ---Anneke Jans in Kittery, Me right over bridge is also a delicious spot for dinner - great atmosphere - cocktails and seafood is amazing - so are the desserts!

Philly to Maine- need stop suggestions 2 nights up and 2 nights back

You should definitely stop in Portsmouth NH if you are on your way up the Maine coast...I live here and we have wonderful restaurants! It is a great little town to stay as well. In downtown there is a Hilton Garden Inn and a brand New Marriot Residence Inn that is really pretty nice. There are also plenty of Band B's if you check with the chamber of commerce site. For great dinners try Jumpin Jay's Fish Cafe, The Green Monkey and Massimos for fine Italialn. For lunch try the River House on Bow St. or The Ferry Landing - both are down on the water and just fun spots to hang and eat or have a few cocktails. Whether you have been to Portsmouth before or not---you will be happy for the stop---literally a minute off of 95N!
