Reccomendations near Washington PA
Union Grill is marginal at best..
Hog Father is good simply for the fact that it's the only BBQ place around but I hear Joe Biden really liked it.
The best place around WashPA regardless of price or food style (rating apples to oranges) is Los Chilludios. I have contacted a few regional chains (Big Burrito Group) to hopefully get a Mad Mex or another semi-decent food in the area. We are not a fan of the food that Washington has to offer - we would rather stay home and cook. To think people boast about Angelos being "true Italian" makes me throw up in my mouth. :)

There really isn't much - try Bisteca at the casino. (expensive for the quality but you can gamble and bet on horses)
I would make the drive (40mins) into Pittsburgh... See the rest of this board for those options...
Pittsburgh chocolate
Hands down - Sarris Candies in Canonsburg, PA

Near Falling Water
I can't speak to the food but this restaurant is on Wine Spectator's list of restaurants with the best wine lists.....
http://www.caileighs.com/
Date: Bar/restaurant with "get close" seating i.e. sofas, couches, benches?
or how about the little couches in the bar section of SOBA? In the winter its the perfect place with the firelplace but in the summer they open the doors up to the street side....
Date: Bar/restaurant with "get close" seating i.e. sofas, couches, benches?
Try the upstairs of Olive or Twist in the cultural district. Good upscale theater crowd.

Washington, PA supper Sunday evening?
Here is a review of Palazzo:

Washington PA area
Exactly at BEST it's merley functional...that is Angelo's in a nutshell at it's prime its only functional as a means to an end. I wish they would step up their game and hire competent chefs and staff. To be honest as I have mentioned if you have access to make your own food that would be better than eating here. Recently there was a nice article in the Trib about Palazzo:

Maybe worth a shot?
Washington, PA supper Sunday evening?
Meann, I am a resident of WASHPA and not a fan of the dining scene. The nice resturants I would reccomend are:
Palazzo 1837 (Italian)
Bisteca (in the casion - steak house)
If you don't mind paying a little try out Bisteca and soak in the Casino atmosphere. If anything its the only place in Washington you can dine with a view with a track. It's the best wine list in Washington....I hope it helps. Let me know if you want to venture further north as Washington is not a culinary mecca.
Los Chiludos Mexican in Canonsburg
I agree, its only one of the few bright spots in Washington County in that area. They were going to put a Ruths Chris and On the border in Southpointe but those plans failed now that everyone wants more office space in that area. This place should do very well. I am glad to hear other people love the food as much as I do!
Washington PA area
six downer: seems we have similar taste. I found Jacksons to be average at best with elevated prices. *sigh* Now I hear they have scaled back the retail/food plans in Southpointe because of the demand for office space.
Washington PA area
As a Washington, PA resident, I must say that the food in the area is serviceable/functional AT BEST. I have resorted to eating in a great deal more and traveling north for anything worth the calorie intake or price. Angelo's is trite (no matter what new cheap decor they try to surround their food). I am begging the Big Burrito group to expand into our area. It's sad when the Wheeling area has more suitable cuisine (all be it mostly chains). The only bright spots in the area are Osso's pizza and Bartram House Bakery. *foodie sigh*

Wings! Where are the best in Pittsburgh?
Self-Proclaimed Wing connoisseur here - hands down the best wings I have had.
1. Drovers Inn - Wellsburg, Wv http://droversinn.net/
I drive often from Pittsburgh just for their wings, cute old inn with a GREAT bar in the basement. The "buffalo garlic" are mouthwatering. I also get "cajun" seasoning on them for a little more taste. Their Honey BBQ are also insatiable. This place is a little far but worth the quaint drive from Washington, Pa.
I would also suggest....
. Mad Mex (any location other than Oakland) Southwest. Cilantro based with olive oil garlic and other goodies. You can vary your heat level I usually get "wild". Make sure if you like them crispy you tell your server just in case.
Sunday afternoon in Tysons Corner - help!
Thanks for reading my post.
I am looking for help locating a great place for dinner in the Tyson's Corner / Vienna area. Local places have priority in my book, but if you tell me the Capitol Grill is the best the area has to offer that's where I will go. We are open to most types of cuisine with Italian, Steak houses, and Mexican food at the top of the list.
Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!
An evening at Mio! (Pittsburgh)
I must say, I enjoy food. I am not the most knowledgeable foodie on the planet however I can recognize and appreciate quality and I certainly have harbored my own opinion on taste as it pertains to my palate. With that being said I wanted to share the experience of my first visit to Mio with my lovely, beautiful, and Italian girlfriend.
I made reservations via Open Table via my iPhone for Friday evening at 7pm. I was surprised to find a table available to us. As we arrived parking was plentiful (however bring your quarters as there is a 24/7 metered lot across the street).
To my surprise upon arrival at 7pm, Mio was rather empty. This didn't bother me as we had ample room to take in the calm, inviting and warm interior. There is a long row of tables for (2) on the right side where you walk in, a small "wine" bar on the left hand side, and tables for (4) in the back left corner. I was curious when our hostess seated my companion and I in one of the tables for (2) next to the only other couple dining in the entire restaurant. We both found this odd but went with it anyway. They were so close that we almost partook in each others conversation. I will compliment our seat selection because there is an LCD above the bar that displayed the Pen's game while we dined. Mio is in Aspinwall which is a nice little community even on a semi-rainy fall night. The location only adds character because it's not too terribly stuffy!
We were greeted by our server "Dana" who was both knowledgeable and helpful with the menu both solid and liquid. Mio does employ a sommelier that we didn't take advantage of this trip! The wine list is plentiful for every price range. He certainly has procured some fine vino. We choose the wine by the glass which ranged from about $8 to $12. I also have the bartender's "fall harvest" version of the sangria. It was very well done and comparable to the plum infused sangria Soba has to offer.
The food was nothing short of Amazing. I would best describe the menu as "Contemporary Comfort" food but they describe it as "New American". I had the Char-Grilled Pork Chop topped with pulled pork (you heard me right)! The pulled pork was mouth watering and contained jalapenos that brought both flavor and mild heat to my plate. The pork itself was cooked PERFECTLY! Kudos kitchen!! My date had Gulf Shrimp with Cheddar Grits, jalapenos, with a sausage gravy. Let me tell you about their sausage, it was divine. So flavorful that I can still taste it and my mouth waters just thinking about it! We had this same sausage in our handmade sausage ravioli appetizer. We did share a very well prepared salad before the ravioli that was fresh, crisp, and layered with flavors.
Not to be outdone, dessert called our names. Both dishes (Pumpkin Cake and Pear/Cranberry Creme Brulee) carried with them the excellence that was prominent in all the other dishes this evening.
We will certainly return to Mio in the near future and may use it as our new "default" wine bar. I have read on their site they have a pre-fixe menu of three courses for $36ea. (Tuesday thru Thursday) and offer a private dining room for parties of 8 or more. (this area also looks into the wine cellar) I would say that Mio has entered my Top 5 restaurants in Pittsburgh list. With its fresh ingredients and flavorful dishes it passed the "Italian Girlfriend that is VERY discriminating with food" taste test. That alone should be your motivation to try it.

Thanks for your recommendation Dave! I will check out Rolands.

I agree Rick, I forgot about the1/2 off wing special during normal happy hours.
I have found the draft selection to be better in the suburbs rather than Oakland and that was never the case. A Beer thoughtful manager left them for State College. Hasn't been the same.
Don't get me started on WINGS. :) I think I'll save that for a seperate thread Monday.
Pittsburgh Eats
I understand sir, sometimes I like quality over quantity too. It does serve a functional nature and gets the job done! :)
ps. watch out for the delayed reaction by the time you start into your 2nd the first one hits you!

I have been to:
-Mad Mex for late night food (see my thoughts further up on this thread) here is my theory. Go for the 9pm Drink Specials (9 to 11) and get a "good" feeling, then follow it up with 1/2 price food at 11. :)
-Village Inn (551 Wildwood Ave, Verona, PA - (412) 828-9922) Outstanding value for your dollar. Huge Portions - it gets busy so make a reservations. More of a family oriented place rather than upscale.
-Angelo's Pizza in Bloomfield (Great subs ask for their "Mayo" which is a homemade version of ranch/mayo. It's great with Pizza and Fries too. I hear they have a new Scilian style cut that I am wanting to try.
-Palimino it was "ok", great service, good wines, moderate atmosphere, but expensive.
-Tusca (in the SS Works) decent Martinis more upscale interior with a younger crowd. Calamari was breaded in a (southern breading, a little too heavey and spicy for me) the dip was very good. Whatever you do don't try the Rootbeer Martini (even as good as it sounds)
-Jojos (in the strip) for Breakfast. No thrills place that is the MECCA for thoes that are hung over. It's more of an imperfect dinner feel with huge portions of food. Great before a Steeler's game of if you don't have a chance to eat until after 1pm.
Pittsburgh Eats
Mad Mex has GREAT lunch, GREAT Happy Hour, and the Best late night options for food in Pittsburgh. ($7 22oz Margaritas from 9-11 and 1/2 price food from 11pm to 1am.) you simply can't beat it!
WashPA Eats (washington,pa.)
I have recently returned to Washington, Pa and I was wondering what your thoughts were on places to eat in the area? I don't think too highly of the Union Grill (except for their outstanding appetizers) and was curious if anyone has a favorite place. I also have not tried Angelo's after their move to near the ball park although I doubt it would change the quality of their food.
I usually just end up driving to Pittsburgh....any help you could offer would save me a ton of gas!
ps. Anyone remember the small Italian place off of route 40 behind West Tire out towards the park? Can we pay them to come back? That place was a hidden gem!
