Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

gotcha!

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

one question for you- it was THAT busy on a Tuesday night??? OMG!!!

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

Well, I'm glad that the food was as good as it was when we had it. I'd have felt awfully bad if you suffered an annoying wait, AND the stuff I raved about wasn't so good. The wait is something that we've just become used to...it will be better in a few short weeks when I am able to have cocktails again after 9 long months...:)

your favorite food movie..

Agree!

What to do with leftover breaded, pan-fried chicken breast?

you could turn into a pseudo- chicken marsala if you have mushrooms and marsala wine. i've done and served w/ rice and veggies. Its a hit. or, if you don't have marsala, you can just make a nice pan sauce w/ whatever you might have- chicken stock, white wine etc...

All-Inclusives that don't suck...

1000% the Grand Velas resort in Riviera Maya!!! I had never been to an all-inclusive before, and was very skeptical when my husband said were going there. My MIL is a travel agent and she has never had an unhappy client there. It is spectacular to see and the food and drink was terrific, free-flowing and very upscale. We were thrilled by all aspects of the resort and most impressively, the food/ restaurants. People from outside of the hotel come there at night to dine. The service was impeccable and the choices were tremendous. Plus, the in-room dining was top notch as well.

Cerbone of Naples, White Plains

do you happen to know how far they'd deliver? do they strictly deliver to WP, or past?

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

I am sorry that I didn't post specifics about the address/location of North. I made the bad assumption that people had seen my previous posts about North, and knew what I was talking about. My bad. Its in Armonk , NY. In Westchester County.
I guess because we eat at North semi-frequently, I never bother with the website. The menu changes often- sometimes slightly, sometimes more of an overhaul- depending on what their farmers, vendors , and purveyors have fresh and available for them. They won't use anything that isn't 100% terrific. So, i never know what we may or may not get there. And, that's fine with me. We like it that way.
I have used Opentable to go there, and I do use Opentable quite a bit for other spots, too. Totally reliable. We've never once had a problem with it. I love that I do it from my Iphone if I really want to.
I have no affiliation with the restaurant in any way save for the fact that we have been going since it 1st opened and we really love it there. We enjoy it and feel like it's a special spot for us. That said, it might not be for everyone. Be it the price, the style of food, the vibe, whatever...
But I was just so excited by our really delicious meal the other night that I felt compelled to share.

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

i thought it was. I have eaten there for lunch. Perhaps they don't have a lunch menu posted? I'd give a call and just ask. Lunch was very nice, but we LOVE our dinners there for sure.
Happy Birthday in advance!

Thanks! I look forward to hearing what you guys think if you end up going and trying out some of these new dishes. Please share your thoughts!!

Joe Bastianich's book: Restaurant Man

i haven't. I was only curious b/c we go to one of his places frequently. I have no issue w/ the restaurant. It was just something I was thinking about...

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

I confess that I'm not%100 sure of the bill b/c I was using the ladies room when my husband paid the bill. I think w/out tip but w/ drinks it was around $150. However, we did have a number of drinks b/c The Husband sent a round to people who we knew. So that makes a difference in the bill.
I think this would be perfect setting for a birthday dinner for you. It will definitely feel special. Do get dessert!!! Happy Birthday!

Great new things at North!! [Armonk]

Last night, The Husband and I had another great dinner at North. We had a reservation, but happily chose to sit at the bar to eat. The Husband had the Tuna Tartare which he said was fresh, and flavorful. I had the Farm Egg. Delicious! A poached egg that was rolled in crushed hazelnuts and than quickly fried. Served over shaved asparagus and butter greens and lightly dressed.
After this course, we had what may have been the pasta I have ever had- hands down!! It was simply amazing. Paccheri with pancetta, wild ramps and parmesan. Outrageously good. Rich but light at the same time. I can honestly say I have never had anything like it, and would easily have a double order next time just to stuff myself on it. We were still talking about it this AM.
Next, the wild nettle soup which was tasty and earthy. I had never had wild nettles before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. It was garnished with hazelnuts and some creme fraiche which I swirled through before eating. We did enjoy it, but nothing was going to top the Paccheri.
For entrees, I had the soft shell crabs and The Husband had the Farm Beef. The soft shell crabs were lightly fried and served over guanciale and soft polenta. Heavenly. So flavorful and so light. The crab had the perfect amount of crunch and yet, the centers were soft and perfect. The beef was prepared 2 ways that he described as "yummy, delicious goodness". I didn't taste it because I was deeply engrossed in my soft shell crab.
We skipped dessert because we were stuffed and it was getting late. However, I do usually enjoy the skillet cookie w/ ice cream because, really, what's better than cookies and ice cream???

Joe Bastianich's book: Restaurant Man

We eat at one of his and Batali's restaurants semi-frequently and, in light of all his "insights" shared in this book, I just keep thinking, " if this is how he views his patrons/customers, is his attitude contagious among the staff in his restaurants?". That's bothersome to me.

Great evening at Modern Barn in Armonk

Valerie- I have to agree with about not rushing back to Moderne. Last month, 8 of us went to dinner and while nothing was bad necessarily, nothing was SO great either. It was food. My husband said he has no desire to return at all. And, we continue to enjoy our dinners at North. Things are really, really good there again!!!

Westchester: Resto for Party for ~25 for Crunchy Mom -- Outdoors option be great!

i don't know if Tarry will meet your requirements based on price and location. In my experience, and they certainly could have changed their policy- they require a minimum for more than 15 ppl that I believe may divide out to more than $40 or less per head. I am not sure if they allow for reserving the roof for a private function. Again, I could be wrong, but that was what I was told last year when I asked to do a "private dinner" for our family.

What's your very most favorite PB&J combination?

I'm with you. My fave is Teddie Super Crunchy PB w/ seedless blackberry jam!!

I think I give up on Pizza in Westchester

We LOVE the pizza at AL Dente in Rye. It's not fancy, but it's good. Just sayin'.

Savona in Scarsdale?

So curious...which corner is it located on? I will ask around.

The odd cravings and dislikes of a pregnant woman [Moved from General Topics board]

hmmm....wonder if you are having a boy this time? I am pregnant again ( with another) girl and until recently, couldn't get enough pineapple, melon, apple and berries. I was also very into mushrooms, spinach, beets, greek yogurt ( not altogether, of course). And peanut butter. Very into vegetables in general and not very interested in chicken or beef. I would much rather have eggplant parm over chicken parm. With my 1st daughter, I was also very into things that were tart and acidic. My MIL swears that tart/acidic/sour means a girl and rich/sweet means a boy.

First Impressions of Growlers Bistro in Tuckahoe

we avoid going out before 8pm ( leaving our almost 4 yr old home w/ the sitter) for that very reason.

Need an Easy Baked Pesach Chicken recipe

My MIL makes a wonderful baked chicken using kosher l'pesach fruit preserves as a glaze/marinade. She's done it w/ orange and apricot and both turn out great!

White Plains: A+ for Noodle+

I'm sorry to say we were sorely disappointed in our order and experience today. I think they are having growing pains, for sure. We ordered a takeout order and had no problem that the wait would be 25-30 mins ( based on what they told us when we called). However, it took an hour to get the food from the time I called. My husband was waiting there and said the food people were eating IN the restaurant looked great. Ours didn't look quite the same way. Plus, most of our order was missing, and what we got was either wrong or bland.
We ordered a shrimp wonton soup but they sent regular, I guess. The filling certainly didn't resemble shrimp at all. The broth was incredibly bland. I had ordered the mushroom dumplings and the chicken veggie dumplings. Only the mushroom made it into the order. The regular size fried rice never made it into the order either. Nor did the shumai. The pad thai was ordered at the suggestion of the man who took my order. I was going to order the yaki soba, but he said the pad thai was much better. We found it clumpy and fair. We had paid for everything, but they seemed to not actually know what was to be packed up for which customer.
I called to complain and they told me they were very sorry and would refund the entire order. We'll have to see if they do.
I don't think we'll be making another trip to Noodle + for a while. They have some stuff to work out before we give them another shot. So bummed.

Passover Alternative to Gefilte Fish

my MIL just males lovely small portions of grilled fillet of salmon for those of us who are icked out by gefilte fish. She serves it w/ wasabi sauce on the side. Delicate and tasty.

Michael Psilakis MP TAVERNA coming to Irvington?

I don't think it's so sketchy. Day Boat in Irvington and the one in Roslyn were indeed part of the same group. It is possible that the group held leases in both locales that they were no longer interested in holding/continuing. MP is going in where Day Boat is/was in Irvington, but according The Journal News, MP BBQ and MP To Go are also opening in Irvington at 1 Bridge Street. It's a big complex near the water if you've never been. I think its a tough spot for a restaurant. One was there before Day Boat and also couldn't make a go despite being quite good.

First Impressions of Growlers Bistro in Tuckahoe

This is a great review of your experience and it certainly sounds appealing as a great, casual place to hang and have some interesting upscale "bar food". But, the notion of screaming children ( and I have a 4 year old, so it's not like I am a child-hater) is a MAJOR turn-off to me when I go out to eat.

Full Moon Trattoria order in. Underwhelmed

Really enjoy and can rely on Franks' and Al Dente. Always consistently good for delivery.

Full Moon Trattoria order in. Underwhelmed

Just ordered in from Full Moon Trattoria in Purchase. A number of friends have told me that everything is so good when they order in from there and I have been curious to try it. Their on-line order system is very easy and that's a plus. But the food was fair at best, and rather expensive for what it was. Perhaps what I ordered ( the veal martini) was not the best choice for a dish to be delivered vs eat -in, but at $25 plus tip, it was not in any way impressive. The sauce was very tangy and very oily. The veggies along it were just plain sad. Sad looking asparagus and sad looking carrot/zucchini mix. The veal itself was eh. I think it was the breading that made it "eh". I was a little surprised that no bread or rice came with it, on an aside.

I know- to each his own. And again, I admit that I may have chosen badly for delivery, but I think from now on, I'll stick to my 2 faves in my area for Italian delivery and not cheat on them again.

I think disappointed is a better word than underwhelmed, but I feel like I just threw money in the garbage. Which, seeing as how I did toss most of my dinner, I kinda did. They are off my list.

Alvin and Sons

we enjoyed it. found the tables very close together, but the food was good. not awesome, but very good and interesting change of pace for us. worth a trip.

Bronxville Castle

I am really intrigued by this place. My family had the pharmacy right there, so it has been quite a while since I was in that neighborhood. It has also been a while since I've had good falafel. I keep meaning to get to Taim in Hastings ( ?) but haven't managed to move my tush over there yet. Taking a ride to BC could satisfy my want for all this type of food and to see how things on the street look these days.
