Where to buy prepared croissant dough

Not in the city, but i just bought some online from Williams and Sonoma for Christmas. It arrived within 4 days and got very good reviews online.

Trying Sushi in MSP

Yumi Sushi in Excelsior. . .it's worth the drive to the burbs. By far, the best sushi I've had in the metro. I've been to Fuji Ya, Origami, Wakame, Sushi Tango, Tiger Sushi (uptown), Bagu, and Raku.

Large group child friendly restaurant

I hosted a similiar event at Grand Cafe in the past. They put us in a room toward the back of the restaurant. There was about 14-15 of us. . .20 might be pushing it, but worth a phone call. They don't have a children's menu, but they are able to make an item child-friendly (grilled cheese). They have a chest full of kids toys as well. And the food/wine was incredible.

MEYER LEMONS -MSP

They had them at Linden HIlls co-op last time I was there.

Fork the Fire- what restaurant are you headed to Sunday?

Headed to El Meson for paella!

Casual, Good, Downtown Mpls?

I'm a big fan of Eli's. It's cozy, hip, and the food is great! Prices are reasonable as well. Been there myself before shows at First Ave. It's fairly close to First Ave.

Restaurant Alma [MSP]

3 course dinner was absolutely delicious last night. Tried the terrine, mixed greens with shrimp and calamari, polenta, crepe, scallops and mahi mahi. We loved every single dish. Champagne with the meal made it even better. Dessert was the chocolate ganache cake--by far the best ganache cake I've ever had.
Service was pleasant and attentive.

Restaurant Alma [MSP]

Have reservations here tomorrow and have never had the chance to go prior. Thinking of doing the 3 course tasting. Would like to hear the highlights of your dining experience.

Minneapolis bars in Lake Harriet area ?

I live in the same neighborhood ,and coincidentally was just talking to some friends in the area about the need for a corner bar. For any bar owners, this would be a prime location for such a place. The closest is Chatterbox Pub off 44th and France, which is within walking distance if you're open to a stroll.

Road Trip Across North Dakota and beyond ...

I'm from Bismarck and have a few local favorites. Besides a lot of chains, you'll be hard-pressed to find a lot of fine-dining. A friend runs the Bistro restaurant. Very good food and drinks. Probably one of the nicer places in town. There's another place-Pirogue Grill that is suppose to be good as well. The Seven Seas in Mandan is classic, old-school super club dining. Caspers East 40 used to be at a similiar level, however, I think that the menu has gotten too large and expensive for what is served.
As far as lunch--favorites are the Country House Deli--awesome sub sandwiches. Best in town. Bistro has a nice lunch as well. If you're looking for grease, Big Boy is the place-pizza burgers flying style, fries with gravy, and a purple cow.
Good luck on your adventure!

Jfood finds Kings Wine Bar (MSP) - Nice Neighborhood Place

I'm curious to find out if Jfood noticed any children at Kings Wine Bar?

Jfood tries Ngon Bistro - Very Good

Have to agree with you kevin47. Went there last night with my family. Was somewhat disappointed with service and food. Had heard good reviews, so were looking forward to dining at Ngon. Our service was mediocre. Our waitress appeared to have a flat affect and just didn't seem too excited to be working.
We started with the sweet potato and shrimp croquettes, which were very good.
I had the fish (striped bass) special with couscous and vegetables. It was bland. For $20 I was expecting something a bit more appealing in flavor.
Brother in law had the scallops, which were ok, but again, served with mushy couscous and a small amount of vegetables..
Husband had the #41(Con Tam Bi-broken rice with pork loin, shredded bbq pork, pork skin, and fried egg), which in all of our opinions was by far the best entree. For $8.95, it was well worth the price.
We all ordered local MN beers, which were very tasty and always nice to see on a local retaurant's menu.
Have been to Jasmine 26 and found their food to be much better (and closer to home), so don't think we will be making another trip to Ngon again anytime soon. If we do go again, guess we will stick to more traditional Vietnamese food versus bistro/french entrees.

MSP: good sweet potato fries

Any of the Blue Plate restaurants (Edina Grill for me) and Herkimers. Both have delicious dips to go along with them.

road trip to Bismarck

I'm originally from Bismarck. Are you looking for places to eat at in town as well?

MSP Uptown-Tiger Sushi or Mt. Fuji?

Thinking of trying out one of the new sushi joints in Uptown. Any recommend one over the other? Highlights?

New Restaurants - MSP?

I second the recommendation for Tosca in SW Mpls. Just opened in April. Only been there once. Food and wine was delicious, service good, prices reasonable. They have a few tables outside on the sidewalk well.

CAFE BRENDA-MSP

I couldn't agree with you more.

CAFE BRENDA-MSP

My husband and I went to Cafe Brenda last night. Second time in several years for him. First time for myself. Food was good, not great. We shared the mushroom pate appetizer. Our favorite dish. I had the fish special: skate served with carrots, asparagus, potatoes, chutney and a mustard sauce. Skate was a bit underdone. My husband had the croquettes. They were ok. Not very flavorful.
Service was sub-par. We waited a while before getting water, then had to wait throughout the meal to get refills. We had to ask for knives. Our waiter forgot to bring a bread basket along with our entrees, while we watched other tables get one. By that point, we didn't even bother to ask. We passed on dessert after noticing that the tart was no longer offered. Parking attendants were very rude in lot behind building.
Many tables were empty when we left at around 8:00. With so many other restaurants in town that have great food and service, I doubt we will be going back to Cafe Brenda.

MSP-Fav place for dinner w/ toddler

We have a toddler and take him out to eat almost every weekend. Live in SW Mpls, so tend to stick closer to home when we take him out. Most child-friendly have been:
Edina Grill
D'amico and Sons-kids eat free Sundays
Gigi's
Zumbros
Cafe Twenty Eight
Tejas

Although Cafe Maude does not have a kid's menu, they have fun non-alcoholic drinks (that can keep your toddler entertained), and will modify recipes (mac and cheese) for kids. It's loud enough in there, so if your toddler is noisy, no one notices.
We've also had good luck with Grand Cafe. They made grilled cheese last time and had a variety of toys tucked away that they brought out. Food/wine is delicious for adults.

msp - blondies

I've had them at Linden Hills Great Harvest Bread. Very yummy and can satisfy a blondie craving.

[MSP] Heidi's Winter Menu recs

Was at Heidi's last Sat. Incredible, neighborhood gem.
Here's what we had:
Appetizer: Crepe Froi Gras, with spiced Beluga lentils, hibiscus syrup-absolutely fabulous.
Entrees: I had the trout with artichokes, gremolata, and lemon vinegrette. Husband had the beef steak special. . .think it had mushrooms, vegetables, in a red wine sauce. Both entrees were delicious.
Side dish: creamed spinach-very tasty.
Dessert: The best part--sweet potatoe beignet. Out of this world! The best dessert I've had all year.
We shared a bottle of Syrah, which was reasonably priced. Would highly recommend dining there. Make reservations. Place was very busy by the time we left around 8:30.
