Another sky rocket rent to oust a good tenant.. MT.Kisco Farm

I live in Mt Kisco and can't believe the amount of restaurants/stores that are leaving. I assume it's all for the high rent. I would think some rent would be better than none, why don't the landlords ever think like that? Main Street on Mt Kisco is really starting to look sad with all the vacant spaces. Flying Pig, Johnny Rockets, 353 Bistro, etc. all closed quite recently. I think the pizzeria, Chrisabella's, was only open a few months! It's really sad.

Salsa Fresca, Bedford Hills and the Little Kebab Station in Mt.Kisco

I was really excited about the addition of Salsa Fresca to the Mt Kisco area. My husband and myself have tried them about 3x and have always come away with a so so opinion. One issue is the person who answers the phone for take-out orders also takes orders inside the restaurant so one time we were put on hold, actually more than once, and heard the cashier taking we don't have many orders before ours, we finally hung up. I wrote Salsa Fresca an email about this and never heard back...I would think they wouldn't want to lose customers, i.e. people waiting to place an order and hanging up. I've had burittos there and found them pretty good only to have them again a different time and been throughly disappointed, they, unfortunately, do not seem consistent. They aren't bad, but not necessarily great either.

Crisabella's in Mount Kisco Closed?

Anyone know what happened to Crisabella's in Mount Kisco on Main Street? They just opened in March and looks like they have already shut down.

Mt Kisco craft beer?

Pour on Main Street also has a great selection of Microbrews. http://www.pourmtkisco.com/

The Little Kabab Station Mt. Kisco

They are on Main Street across from Cafe of Love - next to the tobacco shop.

The Little Kabab Station Mt. Kisco

My husband and myself tried out The Little Kabab Station that recently opened in Mt. Kisco. We tried the Tikka Masala (vegetarian), Korma (vegetarian), Aloo Channa Roll and plain nan. The food was all very good and included rice. It was ready FAST. We called and they told us 10 minutes maximum. Wouldn't have minded more than one of the flat breads they included, but it was free with the meal, so I won't complain. All in all very good food. Nice to have a take-away Indian place in town!

Dinner at Wobble Cafe in Ossining

My husband and myself have had dinner many times at Wobble. It is BYOB, which is great, and they'll even keep your beer cold for you in the cooler. They have specials every weekend (you can get on their email list and they'll send them to you in advance) and also the brunch menu, i.e. you can get sandwiches, etc. We really love the tempeh sandwich and the quesadillas!

Christmas - Where we can get vegan (can be italian)- Fairfield / Upper Westchester

I know Traveler's Rest is open on Christmas and they have vegetarian selections. They are bit pricey, depending on your budget, but their food is always superb, so it's worth it!

Vegetarian-Friendly in Northern Westchester?

How about Wobble Cafe in Ossining? It's not fancy, but it's very vegetarian friendly and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the Indonesian Tempeh Wrap! I've found Umani Cafe, surprisingly not that veg friendly. You could also check out Sante Fe in Tarrytown. It's Mexican and very good - they also have fake beef made with TVP.

Crocitto's La Casa Nostra OOB?

Found out they are just on vacation, phew!

Crocitto's La Casa Nostra OOB?

I've been noticing from the train that the parking lot at Crocitto's La Casa Nostra in Thornwood has been empty. This morning I noticed a sign on the door - wasn't sure if they are on vacation or had gone out of business. Anyone know? I hope it's not the latter...it was a nice place.

New Bistro in Mount Kisco

I walked by FAB last night, they are indeed open and had their menu outside. It looked good but a bit pricey ($27.95 for a meal, etc.). Nothing for non-meat eaters like my husband and myself but the atmosphere looked quite cozy.

Westchester value wedding

I think Traveler's Rest does a fantastic job and there food is superb. I had a wedding celebration there in November, on a Friday, and the price was reasonable and well worth it. They have a lovely outside garden in the back with a gazebo where a ceremony could take place. Here is their website:

Lunch in Mt. Kisco

I think Via Vanti is a great place for lunch in Mt. Kisco. It's by the train, great salads, etc., nice atmosphere.

PJ Kelly's in Peekskill Closing

I just read in the North County News that PJ Kelly's in Peekskill is closing. Here's the article:

PEEKSKILL – The owner of PJ Kelly’s restaurant and pub at the Peekskill train station has decided to end his family’s 15-year run at the city landmark.

Matt Kelly, who inherited the business 10 years ago at the time of his father’s tragic death, has been accepted into the Master’s program at Notre Dame University and will relocate his family to Indiana to purse an advanced degree in business.

Kelly has been operating his business at the train station on a month-to-month lease with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) since last June. He made a bid for a long-term lease earlier this year but his proposal was rejected by the MTA as being too low. He was offered the option to continue month-to-month but has decided to move on instead.
Kelly was the only bidder to respond to the MTA.

In its request for proposals, the MTA sought extensive capital improvements at the train station and nearly triple the current monthly rent that PJ Kelly’s pays.
Kelly said he offered to make the capital investments but sought a lower rent in return and the MTA said no.

“My bid was considerably lower than what they were asking for, but I had considerable capital improvements to the premises,” he said. “They were looking for improvements with an increase in rent and I gave them capital improvements with a decrease in rent.”
Kelly said the decision to close PJ Kelly’s had more to do with his future business career than seeking a new long-term lease with the MTA.
“I’m not interested because I’m going back to business school,” he said. “That’s a good decision for my family.”

The restaurant portion of the business will likely close on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, while the bar will remain open until the end, most likely Father’s Day, in tribute to Kelly’s father who built up the business at a time when the train station area was struggling.
“Shutting down on Father’s Day would be a fitting end to the whole run,” he said.
The timing of the closing will depend in part on the MTA’s schedule and how quickly the restaurant’s seven employees can find new jobs, Kelly said. He expects to have to vacate the premises entirely by July 1.

Villa Del Sol - Closed!

Yes, sorry, should of clarified, the Villa Del Sol in Mt. Kisco. I agree Azteca's food is great and more economical but yeah I agree the atmosphere is quite different than Villa Del Sol's was.

Azzuri's now Johnnie's?

After a google search I found it....it's Johnny's Bar & Grill:

Azzuri's now Johnnie's?

I take the Hudson Line train every morning that goes through Thornwood and from what I can tell Azzuri's is now called Johnnie's? Anyone know anything about this?

Villa Del Sol - Closed!

Last night I noticed that Villa Del Sol has closed. I noticed because I walked by there and saw signs posted all over it to go to Coca Rumba's instead. When I asked the Subway Sandwich guy next door about it he said something about rent and that he was now running Coca Rumba's. I'm sure the rent for that location had to be ridiculously expensive. Another sad sign of the times.

Anyone tried new Turkish place in White Plains?

My husband and I got take-out from "Turkish Cuisine" on Tuesday and it was pretty good. We got the lentil soup (this tasted good but the consistency was different than usual lentil soup, no whole lentils, the whole thing was pureed) hummus, falafel sandwiches and another yogurt appetizer. The sandwiches were good, in a wrap, not a pita, but this made them easier to eat. Over all the food was very good. We waited about 15 minutes for it, but I didn't mind, since that most likely meant it was fresh. For two sandwiches, the soup and two appetizers (which came with pita) it was about $30.

finally, Bisou Bistro/Patisserie in Pleasantville

Upon walking home last night from the train I stopped and got the latest copy of "The Examiner" and I was upset to see the front page story was about Bisou Patisserie and Cafe unfortunately closing it's doors on account of the recession. I thought this place was fantastic and it will be missed.

Irish Pub Mt Kisco?

I've been - it's your standard pub, nicely decorated, nice bartender, Guiness on tap :-) They didn't have a full menu when I visited but my husband and I saw the menu, usual fare, fish & chips, burgers, etc. It's a nice place, I hope it makes it.

Via Vanti

It wasn't too crowded when we went - but we went on the more earlier side, probably around 7pm on a Friday. Some of the wines were very $, like $11 for a glass, etc. but there was one that was $8 I think. But the food is good, not so much an inexpensive night, like you said, but a yummy night at least! :-)

Via Vanti

I went to Via Vanti last night and was very impressed. The selections were different and creative and everything we had was great. It was a little pricey but since everything was delicious I didn't mind. My husband and I split a salad, the paesano, excellent, and they were nice enough to split it onto two plates for no extra charge. We than shared a panini (they use a different name, I forget it now) with asiago cheese, fresh basil, etc. delicious, and the hummus platter, also great. We topped it off by sharing the dessert pizza, also delicious with nutella, fresh fruit, espresso beans, etc. We each had seltzer with dinner and the bill was around $60 even with splitting everything. The owner is very friendly and stopped by twice to see how everything was. Our server was also very friendly. I've been waiting to try this place and I'm glad I finally did - it was wonderful!

Bedford/Mt. Kisco/Katonah area- looking for good pizza and good sushi

I moved to Mt. Kisco in August and have tried every pizza place but two - so far my favorite is Gerado's on Main Street (past the hospital more towards Q). I've yet to find a sushi place yet :-( There aren't many to choose from - a new Asian fusion restaurant, Blue, opened on Main Street - I might give their sushi a try soon!
