Groceries in Andersonville?
Actually, Romanian Sauage Company is further north in Rogers Park. It's totally Kosher and their meats are the best. My god, get the corned beef for sure. Everything is quality. It's located at the corner of Clark and Touhy.
Restaurant for 50th Birthday Dinner
You might check out Allen's on Huron. I went there with my sister and mother for her 65th birthday and it was perfect. The food is great without being unapproachable. The interior is very warm and the staff very accomodating. I'm headed back some day soon. Check it out http://www.allenscafe.com
Tzatziki Sauce in stores?
I agree with the other posters, just make it. The key is a good high-fat greek yogurt and lots of garlic.
Good Deals at Lunch for an Amazing Meal?
You might like NAHA. It doesn't get the hoopla like the others. However, it's my feeling that a lot of the places are just too hyped to be objective any longer. I'm a total cynic I guess.
Rogers Park / Clark
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Carribean Bakery on Howard. Get a meat pie there. It's great and will become an addiction. There is also a good Mexican place on Cark just north of Pratt called La Cazuela de Mariscos which has excellent fish tacos and other fish dishes.
Rogers Park / Clark
There's a lot of great places in Rogers Park but not so much on Clark Street. Grande Sushi is okay, the sweet potato roll is unbelievable. La Cucina Donatella on Howard and Ridge is pretty good. Cafe Suron east of Sheridan at Pratt is great! I second the person who mention the Romanian Butcher. The corned beef is excellent. Gruppo di Amici on Jarvis near Ashland can be good but they screw up a lot too. Candlelight on Western near Howard is great bar and their burgers and fish and chips are worth the trip.
Allen's New American Cafe
Thanks RottenTanx. I actually did suggest North Pond but alas she prefered something within walking distance to the hotel where she's staying.
Allen's New American Cafe
I'm wondering if anyone has been there recently. I'm planning on taking my mother there this weekend and was just curious about the place. I went there once for lunch and thought the food was good and the atmostphere relaxed. I'm hoping for the same, as my mom likes good food but doesn't enjoy a stuffy or uptight environment. Thoughts? Recommendations?
gastro pubs?
You might try Hopleaf on north Clark in Andersonville. It's the best beer selection in the city and the food is very fun too.
Need a great place in North Part Of Chicago
I always think Erwin's on Halsted is great. It's laid back, great service and the food is exceptional.
