Singapore - The Legendary Jalan Kayu Roti Prata from Thasevi This is a real oldie, they used to sell their prata for 60 cents each 20 years ago. Now I think it's $1 each. I don't think I've ever seen the lamb meatball before - good? |

Singapore - The City's Largest Malay Buffet at 1 Market, Plaza Singapura That's a very interesting feedback, klyeoh. I have been told by more than one of my friends that I shouldn't miss 1 Market's buffet. They like it so much. Now you're saying it's not as good as they made it out to be? |

Singapore - Old-World Hainanese steaks from The Ship Nex can be an infuriating mall, klyeoh. The long queue of cars getting into the carpark itself is a source of stress for my husband when he drives. Of course, we can opt for the MRT, but my legs won't last the distance, what with Singapore's overcrowded MRT. I think we just have to wait for Shaw Centre ish its renovation and hope the Ship moves back before we eat there again, nostalgia or no. |

I think the amount of meats on display is also an indication of the volume of business that particular restaurant has. Hence, the more ducks or pork strips you have hanging on your display window, the more boasting rights you're going to have :) |

Walking out on a restaurant meal 'making light of the situation'? Reading your post, I thought you were making a sarcastic remark at the expense of the OP. I think those of us who do not have full knowledge of the situation should reserve our judgement on others. |

Leaving Tomorrow for HK Where would you go for Peking Duck I was about to say the same thing. For some reason, dlgc809 is fond of asking repetitive questions :( |

Lastly!! A compilation of some of Hong Kong's BEST ( and worse? ) Won-Ton Noodles!! What to do, Charles, unlike you freewheeling bachelors, I have to help my daughter here keep an eye on her 5-month-old baby and 3-year-old toddler. There's only that much we can rely on a domestic helper. |

Penang, Malaysia - Transfer Road Roti Canai I missed this post! The frothy coffee does look delicious, but I don't think I can bring myself to sit and eat here though :) |
|

Penang - roti canai, nonya, classic penang street food near Hutton I actually had a nice Chinese vegetarian breakfast once near Hutton Lane. It's on Dickens Street which runs parallel to Hutton Lane. We stayed at Hotel Penaga and it was very nice indeed. But it's not cheap! P.S. - Don't eat at the restaurant in Hotel Penaga. We did that once and was sorely disappointed! |

Lastly!! A compilation of some of Hong Kong's BEST ( and worse? ) Won-Ton Noodles!! Oh my goodness, Charles. Did you even have any space for anything else after this noodle orgy? By the way, I think you should get together with this young lady who wrote about best wonton noodles in Hong Kong for CNNGo: |

Singapore - Latin American options at Sur Nuevo Latino The dishes all sounded very tempting. Venezuelan/Peruvian, you say? Looks like the chef used a lot of Mexican queso fresco. |

Asia's 50 Best Restaurants - Just Published Well, if Tetsuya Wakuda spends more time at his original namesake restaurant, it should garner a higher-rating than one he owns in "faraway" Singapore ;) |

What's the verdict on turkey bacon? Agree with you. In fact, why even use the term "bacon" to refer to processed turkey. It automatically generates comparison with the pork product. It also seems to suggest that the turkey one can be used as a substitute, which you really can't. |

Delhi - Dinner at the historic Moti Mahal, Daryaganj What a blast from the past, klyeoh. I ate here with my husband back in 1976, I remember liking the tandoori chicken very much. |

Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring – Putu Piring (Kueh Tutu) Something New and Delicious For Me Lau, my parents used to own a house on Jalan Tengkera until we moved to Singapore in 1966. I still look forward to going back to Malacca to visit relatives and old friends. If you plan to go to Putu Piring Tengkera in the morning, you should stop by Mee Goreng Hassan for fried Malay noodles. The stall is also called Mee Bodoh or Stupid Noodles http://www.vkeong.com/2012/02/hassans... |

Mak Man Kee Won-Ton Noodles - Disappointing food that warrants 'Downhill Alert '!! My dear Charles:- exactly how many times have you been bowled over by Mak Man Kee's noodles and wantans? Could their previous stupendous effort been a flash in the pan? I think you owe them to go back for a second tasting. And if they disappoint you again, then too bad. You'll need to find a worthy successor to top your list. Happy eating, Charles, and so sorry to have to miss your HK meet. |

Asia's 50 Best Restaurants - Just Published No, you're wrong there, Steve, not every customer " want their servers or anyone else beneath them to respond to their every whim like intelligent vacuum cleaners." I treat everyone with respect. But that doesn't mean I've been imprevious to bad service. I shan't repeat any of them here, but there had been many occassions of unprovoked bad service which I won't try to explain why. So, I do judge a restaurant according to how I'm treated. If I, as a paying customer, can be civil and polite to a server, shouldn't I expect a reciprocal attitude? |

Asia's 50 Best Restaurants - Just Published Oh come one, steve, why else do you think guides like the Michelin or Zagat even include service in their ratings, besides food and decor. But maybe if you are a white man dining in Asia, you can take "always get great service" for granted. I certainly don't take that for granted, in S'pore, HK or anywhere, not even in the US http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/759450 |

Try Jason's supermarket at Orchard Towers or Tanglin Mall. If all else fails, do enquire at the Elite Kosher Shop at the Jacob Ballas Centre on Waterloo Street |

Singapore Upscale Restaurant Recommendations What does Julien Royer do that's better than Andre, akated? I've not been back to Jaan for a long while and you are making me curious. |

Singapore suggestions near Bras Basah My first choice would be Imperial Treasure at Great World City. Its dim sum standards are better than even some well-known places in Hong Kong. Great World City also happens to be only 10 minutes' walk from my house, so it's doubly convenient and we don't have to worry about taking the car out. My fellow Chowhounders have also consistently rated Imperial Treasure's Great World City branch at the top 2 or 3 dim sum places in Singapore. It's owned and run by Alfred Leung, former head honcho of the famous Crystal Jade Group of Restaurants, until he fell out with his brother-in-law who now runs the Crystal Jade chain (their wives are sisters). Crystal Jade at Ngee Ann City used to be the best place for dim sum in Singapore. But I think Imperial Treasure is a bit better these days. Remember to call ahead at least one or two days to make reservations, dear. Both restaurants have perpetual crowds queuing outside at peak lunch hour. |

Singapore Upscale Restaurant Recommendations I believe Fifty Three has re-opened in Tras Street, contact number in this article:- http://travel.cnn.com/singapore/eat/downsizing-singapores-restaurant-scene-124432 You should do Andre. I don't think there is any fine dining 'Singapore cuisine' restaurant. Justin Quek tried that in Sky on 57 but I have yet to hear a single positive review from anyone on that place yet :- http://www.marinabaysands.com/Singapo... |

Singapore - Fab Pasta with Bottarga at Cugini Looks delicious. I'll have to come back to this place some time. It's been a long while. |
|
|
Singapore - Thai-style "Yee Sang" at Thanying Fascinating. Pity I missed the Thai-style yee sung now that CNY is over! You should have invited me along! ;) |
|
|
Singapore - Colombian street food at La Barra Aiyoh, how come I've never even realise we have these food places in Singapore until the two of you came along ;D |

Singapore suggestions near Bras Basah My dear, don't miss the (#261) Waterloo Street Indian Rojak here if you can stand the spiciness. It's the one and only Bras Basah legend :- http://www.makansutra.com/reviews/050... A short walk to Chijmes and you can have dim sum at Lei Garden Cantonese restaurant. It's one of Singapore's leading restaurant for decades. The restaurant used to be at Boulevard Hotel many years ago and is still one of the best Chinese restaurants in Singapore today. It's not cheap though. |

Singapore - Nasi Lemak and stuff at Wok & Barrel So sad. I think the news last Sunday mentioned that the owners got fed-up with high kitchen and service staff turnover. |
|
|
Penang, Malaysia - "American" Fried Bee Hoon for breakfast Your story sounds like the one you mentioned about the American fried rice in Thailand where the cooks who used to work in American army camps during the Vietnam war threw together everything they thought Americans like, like fried chicken, sausages, eggs, raisins, tomato ketchup to come up with the 'American fried rice' :) |

Singapore hotel good for hawker food If you are thinking of Newton Food Centre, then Sheraton Towers Hotel is walking distance. For Tiong Bahru Food Centre, the nearest hotel is the Link Hotel. There are no decent hotels near Maxwell Road Food Centre or Old Airport Road Food Centre. |
